Rating: Summary: Companion book Review: Although you can follow the guaifenesin protocol for fibromyalgia and get well with just the original book by these authors, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia, this new work gives the FMS sufferer more ammunition to fight the disease. The first book defines Dr. St. Amand's theories and treatment, this book offers helpful tips and recipes to fight the oppressive fatigue that goes hand in hand with the pain and myriad symptoms. Definitely worth reading, whether you are following the guai protocol or not.
Rating: Summary: Finally getting rid of fatigue Review: An excellent book for anyone with fibromyalgia and/or hypoglycemia. Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek explains clearly and in great detail the reasons why we are fatigued and the foods to avoid. I have recommended this book to a friend who has hypoglycemia and have gotten great results from following Dr. St. Amand's diet plan. Luckily, I don't have hypoglycemia myself but this book has given me back the energy that I need plus the weight loss that I have long tried to achieve.
Rating: Summary: Many Helpful details, recipes, and more Review: I got a lot of practical information and assistance from this book. Dr. St. Amand tells it like it is about Fibromyalgia, which I've had most of my life. What a refreshing change to find a doctor that doesn't blame Fibro on the patient. I've had the fatigue and believe me, these suggestions work! A great book.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, still skeptical. Review: I have read the first book by this author, and while I found his treatment protocol interesting, I did not find it very practical to implement. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to delete every source of salicylate from every product that you use. Every makeup item, every skin care product, every shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, dish soap, detergent, cleaning product...the list goes on and on. There are plant extracts in nearly everything that we use on a daily basis.
If you do not work, perhaps you have the time to begin this intensive program. If you work full time, however, you are already exhausted from the fibro and simply do not have enough time left in your day to research every personal item that you use to see whether it contains salicylates. Even if you do, there is no proof that it works. Furthermore, I have yet to find a doctor that I could "introduce" this protocol to who would take the time to research it and learn more about it. Sure, I have been to many different doctors and tried many things to help rid me of fibromyalgia. The fact of the matter is, if this was a proven cure, it would be everywhere by now, in the media, online, and more doctors would be embracing this protocol.
The bottom line is that proper nutrition and exercise are the best weapons that you have. If you feed your body only nutritious foods, it will slowly begin to respond to getting the nutritious "fuel" that it needs. As it responds, you will have a little more energy and be able to slowly begin an exercise program. As you increase your exercise, you will have more energy. As your body gets physically healthier, you will feel better. This will happen without guaifenesin and without deleting salicylates from your life.
Rating: Summary: A Priceless handbook of Information Review: I have the other book by this caring and knowledgeable team of experts, but this one is worth the price just for the HG recipes in it. All the new additions to the Guaifenesin protocol to reverse fibromyalgia and give the patient back his or her life are contained in the pages of this book.If you feel desperately sick and tired of being sick and tired do your self a big favor and order this book. You will have hope for the first time in your life with Fibromyalgia fatigue pain and depression. When you begin to put it's suggestions into action your hope will become reality. There is real, painfree life after the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Read this book and find out how to have this life for yourself. I did and I no longer use a cane to walk or the electric carts to be sure I can get back to the front door of a large store. I sleep normally, and am much more free of pain than just 8 months ago when I first read the preceeding book.
Rating: Summary: I'm getting well! Review: I've been reversing my fibromyalgia for 2 years and 10 months now and this book helped me focus on the best eating methods and gave me great recipes for keeping on track. Its written clearly and it has great ideas for doing the best you can while getting well.
Rating: Summary: A book with which to create a new and pain free life Review: My life has been revolutionised by What your doctor may not tell you about Fibromyalgia (FM). I was diagnosed with FM in April 02 and started the protocol soon after. I responded well to the Guaifenesin treatment and am now able to do most things. I am very strict about removing all salicylates from topical and herbal products. I also follow a low carbohydrate diet which further enhances the healing process as Dr St Amand has advocated. This protocol is not for wimps! It needs to be adhered to for it have any chance of success. I would recommend it to anyone who has FM without hesitation.
Rating: Summary: What this doctor has already told us Review: The primary difference of this Amand offering from its predecessor is the addition of the word "Fatigue" after "Fibromyalgia." But the protocol is the same. Unless you're interested in the recommendations for sugar-free food substitutes and the many recipes for hypoglycemic and sub-clinical hypoglycemic diets, there's really no point to picking up this book. In fact, if you have copies of Atkins or the South Beach diet, you have the recipes already. It does strike me that the author, if anything, is a bit more permissive in this edition about what's acceptable in the diet. Medicinal herbs and topical solutions with salicylates are still strictly forbidden, but as far as ingesting the herbs as "food," apparently the sky's the limit. Also, it can be frustrating trying to reconcile what appear to be contradictory statements. For example, the author says on p. 17 that feeling much worse after taking guaifenesin is a sure sign that it's working: the toxins are being flushed out and you're on the yellow brick road to recovery. But then on page 22 he says that most blocked patients begin to feel rapidly worse, a sure sign that the guaifenesin is being neutralized by salicylates. So should the patient celebrate feeling lousy or seek to alleviate the condition through a more vigilant search for salicylates? Also, Dr. Amand stresses the importance of consulting your physician regularly for "mapping," then admits that most physicians don't know how or won't do it (guess who will). All in all, unless you're interested in about a hundred pages of sugar-free albeit admittedly tempting, recipes, you can probably safely pass up this purchase.

Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: This book has changed my life! For the first time since my diagnosis 10 years ago, someone can tell the how and why of this devastating illness. If that isn't enough, Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek have introduced me to a protocol which REVERSES the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Not just treats, REVERSES. I have begun the protocol, and am both amazed and thankful. I recommend that anyone with FMS, or who knows someone with FMS, buy this book now.
