Rating: Summary: Informative and usefull Review: I love this book so much. It's full of information the average person can easily put to use every day. It's written in a way that's straight-forward and easy to understand. You can just zip right through it without falling asleep. Let's face it, nobody is reading this book for the entertainment value. Jean Carper's style is right on the mark, just give the information is a simple way, never long-winded. There is something in here for everyone. Even a couch potato could read this book, basically stay a couch potato, but still get something out of this book is they follow some of the advice in here. There are no gimmicks in here, just practical information you can put to good use every day.
Rating: Summary: A HELPFUL GUIDE ... AT A FRACTION OF THE LENGTH Review: I would have never believed a vitamin/mineral book would be so interesting that I had trouble putting it down. Its all here in easy to understand language. The book is broken down into chapters for vitamins and minerals this author (as well as others) feels are the most important to take. Each chapter has supporting information so you can make informed decisions. I purchased one for my father for his birthday as well as a copy for myself. I checked this book out of a library then bought it for future reference.
Rating: Summary: WOW What a great way to STOP AGING! Review: Jean Carper has done a wonderful job of relating what the medical profession and researh have proven to be that elusive prescription to the fountain of youth. I quite agree with the 9th reviewer here on Amazon.com has written in her review. I have been on such prescription for about 20 years now so I am giving testimony to Carper's prescription. Everybody on the planet earth should read and implement the directions in this book because we should learn to live up to our fullest potential and staying healthy is necessary to do that. We have lost, prematurely, many of our great brains because they abused their bodies with bad food, booze, and poor mental and physical health.

Rating: Summary: very informative Review: The author, although well intentioned and somewhat informative , produced a rather dull repetition pattern , going over each supplement in identical fashion.Important topics such as ingestion procedures/schedules and ortomolecular deficiency exams are overlooked.Struggled to get to the end.......
Rating: Summary: very informative Review: The most important question this book answered for me, was why should someone who eats a sound diet take supplements. I was surprised to learn that, because of all the toxins and stress we are exposed to, a healthy person who doesn't take supplements still runs the risk of getting cancer, cataracts, and other degenerative diseases. The first part of the book deals with the supplements you need to take. The author covers the findings, the dosage and the form you should take. She also discusses 'how much is too much' for each supplement. Then she advices you which foods to avoid (too much iron can make you age, too!) and why. 12 supplements are covered, and three are essential( vitamins E, C and beta carotene), according to the author's research. 5 anti-aging foods are discussed, as well. Even if you are already a cancer patient or aging, the findings indicate that you can reverse the damage, with time. The book was very easy to understand, and fun to read, if you are into improving your health.
Rating: Summary: BEST book on diet, supplements and Review: This book is a treasure chest of extremely valuable information on how to preserve your mental capabilities and to protect yourself from disease with the right diet and the right supplements and amounts of them. Did you know that people taking vitamin C or E supplements are shown in general NOT to develop Alzheimer's? Did you know that blueberries, strawberries and spinach are brain-savers? Did you know that you can control and possibly prevent insulin resistence by eating a low "glycemic index" diet. Did you know that eating foods equalling 5500 ORACs a day will protect your memory and motor control? (A cup of black tea brewed for five minutes contains 1200 ORACs.) Did you know that vigorous walking for an hour, five days a week will lower your risk of stroke by about half (p. 331), as will fruits and veggies and tea (p. 323)? Jean Carper discusses the importance of Omega-3 oils in fish for pregnant women who want to optimize their children's mental capacities, as well as for the rest of us. She discusses the B vitamins, folic acid and the other, and their vital importance. She gets down to specifics with doses to take and appropriate combinations. I heartily recommend this book. If you buy only one book this year, buy this one. The writing is energetic and enjoyable. The glycemic index and ORAC tables contain invaluable compilations for charting an optimal daily diet. I posted copies on my refrigerator door! I've given this book to several people, all of whom cherish it.
