Summary: The truth about health and weight loss!
Review: Atkin's tell us the truth about health and weight loss! For years I've believed that I should have sugars and bread, but when I eat them and keep my fat intake to a minimum, I get very ill. I read this book and FINALLY I realized that I'd been duped all along.

Now I follow the Atkins method for weight loss, exercise and Vita-Nutrients and my chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia is GONE! This is a "life-style" that is easy to adopt and maintain!

You do not need medications to counter-act the symptoms of disease, you need Atkins' diet and Vita-Nutrient solutions to rid yourself of them once and for all.

Just by my reading his books, Dr. Atkins has saved my life and reinfused my zest for living. I've since recommended his diet to others and they have been successful, as well.

Thank you Dr. Atkins, from all of us!

Summary: "nay-sayers" are misinformed...probably didn't read the book
Review: I gave the book four stars.....I agree with some of the other reviewers that it could've been a "better read", more simply worded, and shorter, BUT being that it is a factual diet book, (not for entertainment purposes) the information is EXCELLENT and IT WORKS!!!

Many people, including those in the medical field are still misinformed about Atkins. If you read and follow the book (many people don't, they just stop eating carbs altogether and call it "Atkins"), it will work and be healthy. In fact, even in the first two weeks, called "Induction", the strictest phase of the program, you are supposed to eat carbs (mostly salad and veggies, along with protien), just a much lower amount and healthier type than "normal" for an overweight American. It is not a "protien only" diet, and you don't eat bacon every day (in fact bacon, along with other highly processed foods, is not recommended because of the preservatives in it); it is a balanced diet, but much lower in the carbs, especially sugar and junk food, that the typical American diet is largely made up of.

I read the whole book and lots of reviews and talked to my doctor before I started the diet, and I am doing fine. I started the diet in March, I am 5'2', and was 160+ lbs., had pain in my knees and feet, tiredness, was growing out of all my clothes....by mid-May, I was down to 140 pounds, my feet and knees no longer hurt, I have had to buy 2 sizes smaller clothing, and I have much more energy. I have slowed my weight loss, and am now starting an exercising program to help change my body shape and continue this healthy lifestyle. Now that I am in the "Ongoing Weight Loss" phase, I do eat a few more carbs, but healthy ones like veggies, salad, seeds, nuts, some fruits, and some bread.

When I read the book, what struck me as making sense, is thinking about how the human body has evolved throughout time. After all those thousands of years hunting (meat) and gathering (raw veggies and non-refined carbs - fruits, seeds, and nuts) and drinking water (not soda, sugary juices, and milk) our bodies are naturally evolved to work with these types of natural fuels; not a bunch of white refined flour, and tons of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. I believe the abundance and over-use of refined carbs in many of our convienience foods are a huge reason why the American people are such an overweight group.

Many Atkins DOUBTERS (who have not read the research) say all you lose is water weight and muscle tissue and that tons of people just gain the weight back after Atkins......well, just the opposite is really true, and that is addressed in the book and here. Initially you do lose some water weight (just a couple pounds are water weight) as with ANY diet, and Atkins even tells people this in the book; but if you are doing the program right, you will not lose muscle tissue, in fact, you will start building it - which we all know helps increase metabolism and burn fat faster. Also, the reason people start gaining weight after Atkins is just that....there is no "after"; Atkins is a lifestyle change, if you stop doing it and go back to eating way too many carbs for your particular metabolism, of course you will gain the weight right back. Other diets do that same thing (if you are on a low calorie diet, and then when you get to your goal weight, you go right back to the number of calories you were eating before, you will gain it all back)...but most of them don't offer a long-term maintenence plan - BUT Atkins book(s) explains in detail the "Lifetime Maintenence" phase of the program, and how to find the right level of carbs to maintain (neither lose more nor gain back) the weight you have achieved in a healthy way (no yo-yo dieting) for the rest of your life.

Sorry for the long post, but when people are misinformed, I like to give them as much correct information as possible.

Please read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution for more info if you are interested. It really does make sense and it works.

Summary: He saved my life!
Review: I just went through the earlier reviews (there were 30 at the time of this writing) to see if I'd done one yet. I bought this set about 11 months ago, right here on amazon.com.

Instead, what I found were a few real uninformed skeptics...check them out yourself...they are hilarious, particularly my favorite: Don't do this diet. I will make you sick.

Funny, but since starting my own Atkins Lifestyle on January 27, 2003 at 260 pounds, I haven't had a sniffle. Today, November 26, 2003, I weighed-in at 162, 98 pounds down and 2 pounds from my goal. At 6 foot even, 160 is exactly dead-center of the normal range of the BMI (Body Mass Index).

I've gone from a 52" waistline (wearing 44" slacks below the belly) to a 36" waistline (wearing 36" slacks around my waist). My inseam is now 32" instead of 30" due to me wearing the slacks where they were made to be worn and now the crotches of the slacks don't extend inches down my thighs. Boy, I must have looked like a slob. (Must have? I know I did. I used to hate glancing at my profile reflected from store windows when I walked down the street. I looked like a pregnant man!)

While I might have waited to write this after losing the next, final, TWO POUNDS, I could not wait. Tomorrow, you see, is Thanksgiving.

This year, I give thanks for these books and their author, Dr. Robert C. Atkins. May God rest his soul in peace, for the peace that his undaunted efforts have given and will give millions of formerly overweight people, now living a healthy lifestyle in healthy bodies.

Summary: Absolute Best Weight Loss System!
Review: I lost at least 30 lbs and kept it off! This diet has been around awhile. I knew it worked as had tried it many years ago. I like the "new" addition of a salad a day. This is a high protein, very low carbohydrate diet. I have felt good on this diet. The day I ate macaroni and cheese, I felt bloated and fat, not slim as on the other days. I am loosing weight, even with "slips" and my regular sweet coffee. "Caffeine stimulates an overproduction of insulin, which ultimately promotes weight gain. The biggest need is to stop a caffeine addiction. Once you go 2 weeks without caffeine, you may have it again as long as you don't become dependent on it for energy." I do not need coffee for energy. I just like the taste! Since muscle weighs more than fat, and I'm walking vigorously (at least 20 minutes every day on days that are not too cold or rainy), less weight loss is normal.

Summary: Less carbs - better way to eat
Review: It is astonishing to read the slam pieces here about Dr. Atkins so-called obesity and overweight condition at the time of his death. Here are the facts:
* He previously had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy -- a serious disease of the heart muscle which is unrelated to diet.
* He died of a head injury because of an accident falling on slippery ice and not of being overweight.
* His actual weight was 200 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital at the time of his accident. The erroneous reports of him weighing 258 lbs was based on his weight at the time of his death. The extra weight was not fat, but an accumulation of body fluids linked to organ failure during his coma.
* His previous reported heart attack was due to a viral infection and not diet related. He spoke openly of his condition on various national news programs.
* The report that was released about him being overweight was leaked to the press by a group named "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine", which is an ardent opponent of the Atkins diet. In short, they distorted his weight by reporting the weight at the time of death - 258 lbs, and not at the time of his admittance - 200 lbs...an obvious attempt to discredit and distort the facts surrounding Dr. Atkins death.
* A formal complaint has been filed by the Medical Examiner of New York regarding the suspicious leak of this information to the public by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine."
* The disinformation surrounding Dr.Atkins untimely death is politically driven by the AMA and other detractors of the diet.

Dr. Atkins book, New Diet Revolution has turned the AMA and other nutritional views upside down and has created a furor over the standard edicts of the medical profession. What is not said among the detractors of the Diet is that it is safe and it works. The information contained in this book will not only help you lose weight, it could save your life. The food industry, especially the bread and pasta industry have lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of the low carb revolution. Is it any wonder that this diet is under so much fire? Keep an open mind and read the book.

As a side note, ignor the mumbo-jumbo rantings and ravings of the "Elixir Diet" system (see below). The hatred and mis-information spread by the reviewer is evidence enough that the Elixir system is phony as a three cent penny. Nuff said. The guy hasn't even read the Atkins book!

Summary: Less carbs - better way to eat
Review: On the induction phase of this diet plan I lost 10 lbs in one week, and it was easier than ever (and I've been on every diet). I continue to use what I learned in this book and I now weigh the lowest I've weighed in 7 and a half years!

Summary: Focus on HEALTH instead!
Review: There must be something about Dr. Atkins' diet since it is so popular. However, I think that we in North America, while chasing the perfect body, forgot about what really matters - the perfect health.

I am a creature that trusts everybody, but not without a dose of skepticism. Therefore I always make a point of trying new approaches on my own before expressing any opinion. I went trough Dr. Atkins' two weeks Induction Diet and I quickly realized that this certainly is NOT the kind of nourishment that nature designed for me. How can you eat stake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and keep smiling? Gary Null's juicing made more sense to me...

However, the MOST sense, to me makes Dr. Tombak in his book "Can We Live 150 Years?" His approach is absolutely non-commercial. Using simple language he talks abut all aspect of health and longevity. The interesting thing is that once I started following his guidelines I lost 8 pounds this month without ever focusing on losing weight. Enjoy your food, eat most of the foods you like, just chew them well, follow some simple food combination guidelines, and DON'T LET YOUR STOMACH DIRECT YOUR ACTIONS! As Dr. Tombak advises: "Eat to live instead of living to eat!" But of course that is not all. It turns out that diet is only one of a few causes of obesity for many people. How about your spine? Maybe your soft mattress causes some of your problems? How about internal cleaning of your body? - This is where I started. It is probably the best way to start any changes in your dietary habits. I have no cravings for coffee, alcohol or any of the junk foods, that I used to have even while following Garry Null's approach. Mr. Tombak provides a wide array of body cleansing methods. It is hard not to sucseed! And these are words of a trustful skeptic.

Summary: Why follow a Dead Dr. Fatkins?
Review: Why Follow Dr. Fatkins? Er, Dr. Atkins. The Dead & Obese Weight Loss Guru? Why model yourself after failure?

Dr. Atkins is dead. At only 72. And he suffered clinical death from cardiac arrest a year before he died. Autopsy showed he had suffered a heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension. As if this wasn't bad enough, Dr. Atkins was morbidly obese at his death! 258 pounds!! There should be full disclosure on this!

Why model yourself after a diet guru who was fat, fat, fat? 258 pounds at the time of his death! And greatly risk the same "side effects" as Dr. Atkins got -- heart attack and hypertension?

Not to mention the other side effect. Which few know about. But which I discovered. Horrible bad breath!

Why not model yourself after a guru who has really stayed slim? The secret of success is to model yourself after success.

After the Atkins diet failed me miserably, a very successful friend introduced me to The Elixxir Program. The Elixxir Program is based on the only scientific way to achieve dramatic weight loss. And keep it off for life.

And the guru Elixxir is his own best testimonial and proof that The Elixxir Program works.

Ever wondered why all the Orthodox Jews, Moslems, Hindus and Buddhists can stay on such "impossible" religious diets? Is it because they're stronger than you and me?

No, it's because they have a philosophy/worldview and lifestyle which SUPPORTS their diets.

And this is why The Elixxir Program works. And why Atkins diet and all the other diets do not. The Elixxir Program comes with an exciting philosophy and lifestyle which will empower you to lose weight and keep them off. It is in this book The ImmorTalist Manifesto on Amazon.

Read The ImmorTalist Manifesto! And then run to the elixxir.com website and find out about the Executive Memo telling you all about The Elixxir Program.

If anything can make you slim for life, The Elixxir Program can.

I should know. I had a "love handle" or "beer belly" around my waist that I couldn't get rid of no matter what. Until I got on The Elixxir Program. It's a miracle. Actually, totally scientific. The only diet program that is documented with an overhwhelming body of scientific research and articles.

Why follow a weight loss guru who was fat? Why not follow a weight loss guru who is as fabulously slim and healthy as you want to be? Elixxir is your man! Not Dr. Fatkins.;)

Bonus: Unlike Atkins regimen which speeds up your aging, The Elixxir Program is also the only scientific anti-aging eating program!

So "kill two birds with one stone," lose weight and stay young!
