Rating: Summary: Important but Fluffy Review: I thought this was a great book and actually has an important message. We no longer need to be defined by our relationship history, current status or future plans. I think we are living in extraordinary times where a significant portion of the population are starting to make choices like this and that the trend will grow in direct proportion to our increased freedom and flexibility around relationships. However, the book is way too cute and fluffy and probably in the next few years Ms Cagen will be putting out some more weightier books. The other thing was that half the "quirky alone" bios were of people in their 20's and frankly unless you've had the hairy experience of singledom in your 30's you don't know anything.
Rating: Summary: Laughed Out Loud in Recognition Review: I was thrilled to find this book after visiting the Quirkyalone website and discovering through taking their simple test I am VERY, VERY quirkyalone. All this time I just thought I was different than most people I met!!I found this book comforting, hilarious, mind opening and connecting. The biographies of other quirkyalones and the chapter on quirkytogethers was especially excellent, since being a quirkyalone does not mean you are a recluse, its more like you are comfortable with solitude AND enjoy company. No wonder I never fared well on the Myers-Briggs when it came to "Am I Extroverted or Introverted?" I am quirkyalone! I love parties and people AND I need to be alone, too. Ironically, I found this book in the "Relationships" section of the bookstore, which gave me a good laugh. Read this book and give it as a gift to anyone you know who fits the profile. They will be glad, as I was, to know that I am no longer "alone" in my status as contented, peaceful quirkytogether quirkyalone!

Rating: Summary: this book is funny, honest and insightful Review: i went to a reading by the author in san francisco last night, she was hysterical! what i like about the book is that it isn't just "rah-rah, being single is fantastic" , but looks at some of the more complex, darker (and very funny) aspects of single life too. i also like that it's very antidotal, and has a lot of different people's stories. definitely a fun read!
Rating: Summary: One word: Excellent Review: I've never written an online review for a book on amazon before, and can't believe I'm doing it now ;) but I had to share my thoughts on Quirkyalone. Never have I read a book that described me so perfectly. I've already recommended it to three of my friends. This is a great book for those questioning the pervasive idea that a person has to be in a romantic relationship to be "complete", and those who feel that 'happily single' is not an oxymoron. all in all-- a light-hearted, funny, yet insightful and powerful book!
Rating: Summary: A real gem Review: One of the things I love about the book is the wit with which this concept is put forth. It's funny and smart, which is so not the case for most books in the "relationships" section of bookstores. I also feel a little spooked by Quirkyalone. I wonder if Sasha has secretly been living in one of my bedroom for years reading through my diaries. The book so articulates my life being single and the long-term relationships I have been involved in, that is almost scary! Highly recommended for everyone who does not believe in a "timeline" for getting married or that you need to bring a date to a wedding or any of the other stifling messages we get--a needed affirmation for people who want to live life on their own terms. THANK YOU SASHA!

Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever! Review: This book changed my life. It's one of the most unique books I've ever read--chock full of images, lists, quirkyalone mottos, advice, mad libs, and more! It's fun, insightful, quirky, and perfect. Cagen does a great job letting us know that we should embrace ourselves whether we are single or coupled. It's the perfect antidote to patronizing books such as "The Rules" and "The Surrendered Single." I'm going to buy a copy for all of my friends and family members (especially the ones that are constantly bugging me about finding "the one")!
Rating: Summary: Fun and cute Review: This book is fun and light, but it grated on me. Now I qualify as "quirkygrumpy." In a cross between "The Hipster Handbook," Mary Claire, and an eigth-grade art project, Sascha Cagen attempts to introduce a new "type" called the "quirkyalone," although there are "quirkytogethers" as well. It's not new at all--she describes the type of self-absorbed Bohemian Yuppies who've been flocking to San Francisco and Brooklyn for the last decade. Cagen cobbles together bits of her magazine, profiles from her website, humourous snippets from who knows where, and lots of pithy comments. Woody Allen, we find out, is not 'quirkyalone'-- he's 'quirkycreepy' The poet Rilke, although being an inspiration for such 'quirkysingle' movies as "Kissing Jessica Stein" is not a 'quirkysingle,'he's a 'quirkyasshole.' Christian Slater and Sandra Berhard are definitely "quirkyalone." Cagen definitely portrays a scene, and claims that she's describing a new inclusive definition of what it means to be single. I'm skeptical-- instead, she's delivering the essence of self-absorbed yuppiedom, except these yuppies read the Onion instead of Cosmo, went to Vassar instead of joining a sorority at a Big Ten School, and post personals on nerve.com instead of match.com. It's basically the same deal. Maybe I'm being unfair-- the book IS cute. I'm just annoyed with cute. I would have liked to see a little more substance, a little less skipping around, and a whole lot less of the "profiles" of QAs gathered from the Internet.
