Summary: Bdubb Would love this!
Review: Bill Brent offers us a very well written and honest discussion of what anal sex is for men and how one can overcome the taboo to find greater pleasure. For the novice the tone of the work should be reassuring. For those of more experience, I'm sure you'll find useful suggestions. There is a few brief mentions about women but honestly that isn't the focus on the book so don't be upset if you don't find the answers and you are female or have a female partner. My only complaints are the fact that this book, as with so many on sexuality, lack good citations for their "facts". Frankly the more I encounter this problem the bigger it becomes in my mind.

Summary: Informative!
Review: Bought this book, and I must say the information contained herein is very well written (with a nice slice of comedy thrown in as well) I'd reccommed it to anyone new to anal sex.

Summary: Too important to be dismissed
Review: Considering there are books out there about how to give better oral sex, it's not surprising there'd be books about the other end. This one's from the publishers who produced the anal guide for women, but this one is for the guys, both the giver and the receiver. For that reason, this one isn't for the girls and caters exclusively to the gay and bisexual man. The frustrating taboo of anal sex that remains very much alive in the gay community is knocked down in this book, probably by necessity and the literally life-saving information it offers. Anything any guy can think of in giving or getting is here: health precautions, preparation, muscle exercises and techniques intended to make the probing experience more pleasureable. An important other section of this book is that it strongly encourages self-exploration before trying it for the first time as part of a duo (or trio, or so on). The tips on self-exploration are so effective that they may actually help a guy decide if man-to-man anal penetration is or isn't for him. The "how-to's" aside, the book is also a tremendous resource guide and points to websites for health, toys and so on to gain further knowledge. Considering the life-and-death aspects of man-to-man anal sex, this book is far too important to be tossed aside for not being written well (which it is), because of religious dogma or for whatever other reason. It is an essential companion guide that, no, won't make you "exerpienced" by reading it or "promote" this most intimate of sexual interaction as something necessary for a fully satisfying gay sex life. More than that, it may make the experience even more enjoyable for those already experiencing it.

Summary: My new bible
Review: Ever have a book that you thought was written for you and you only? I found myself thinking these exact words after finishing this book. I was able to learn all those embarrassing questions I was too afraid to ask and learned new techniques to things I hadn't before. As a gay male I had reservations about the health consequences but now I feel free to conquer anything obstacle in my path. Highly recommended.

Summary: A wonderful guide for anyone curious as well as experienced.
Review: I found this book to be extremely interesting and informative. I, being somewhat young, have learned much from this book. My partner, who is older and more experienced, also found this book extremely useful. It is nice to see that we are entering into a time where men can be open about their sexuality and comfortable themselves. I would recommend this book equally to younger and older sexually active people. A great companion to my other reviewed books.

Summary: Goes a long way to answering your questions on anal play...
Review: Is there any sexual activity out there that is more taboo than anal sex??? Perhaps, but due to religous dogma and the negative associations installed within us about our own anal region from very early on, anal sex is certainly one of the least understood, often by those who practice it. It is very rarely discussed, even amoungst us gay men, whom are supposedly the most sexually active and aware of all orientations. Ask a gay man about anal sex and you mostly get shy glances and giggles, even from experienced players! So when I wanted to find out more about anal sex, I bought this book. I certainly wasn't dissappoined!

There are 2 reasons why I find this book extremely helpful with exploring my own sexuality - it is easy to read and brutally honest. It doesn't assume you have a medical degree (everything is explained in layman's terms) and both the potential positives and negatives are thoroughly discussed.

'Ultimate guide to anal sex' gives a great grouding in basic anal anatomy, health, and the need to explore this area on your own before including a partner. After reading this book you will not suddenly find yourself an experienced player capable of 'anything', but it will give you honest information that will lay a wonderful groundwork to explore anal pleasure on your own and with a partner.

It is by no means an 'advertisement' for anal sex (even though it's obvious that the author is very experienced in this area), indeed you might read this book and say 'it's not for me'. But it will go a long way to answering your questions that are difficult to ask and make you better informed as to your own choices. If you still have questions after reading this book, the last chapter contains a considerable listing of resources that will put you in contact with other information.

Isn't it wonderful that we live in a world where books can be published that gives us insights into one of the most taboo sexual practices???? Even if you think you are 'experienced' and need no instruction, read this book. You might just find you do indeed learn something new. After all, isn't that what sex is??? A constant exploration of ourselves and each other??

Summary: Good for begginers, lacking for the expereinced
Review: Overall, I thought the book was well written, descriptive and to the point. I think it did the job it was intended to do: give a broad general introduction to anal sex. I'll agree that the illustrations were lacking, although, I wonder if they weren't intentionally campy.

If you're more expereinced or lookig for something in more detail, then go elsewhere, otherwise, I recommend checking this out. I would have loved to have had a copy growing up in a small, sexually repressed New Jersey town (Haddonfield). A lot of the stuff described in the book ... I had to discover on our own and I think that played a big part of our relationship.

Regardless, it's worth the read. Some of the stuff may surprise even the "very knowlegdeable."
