Rating: Summary: Healthy and easy way to detox - finally! Review: After using primarily fasting as a way to detox in the past, this book provided me with a much easier way to detox by combining fasting, as well as a careful produce/rice diet to continue the detox process without fasting. I knew what to expect, and my cravings for 'bad' foods went away, and while I had some trouble finding "rice protein" I did fine with rice products, and didn't have any trouble sticking to the careful five day diet. This book made it easy to understand what is going to happen during the detoxing process, which I'd never clearly understood. There seems to be a lot of "extra" info in the book if you're interested, such as supplements, tests and details about each part of the body that absorbs toxins. Good to know in hindsight. I think I may continue living a detox lifestyle! It's worth it.
Rating: Summary: Expensive and not worth the effort Review: As a naturopathic student I found the book riveting. Not only do the authors open one's eyes to a whole new way of looking at disease, but they also make one aware of how toxic our lives truly are. The book is very well written with a lot of scientific and medical information that also allows the reader to understand the way in which our bodies work. I would not say it is a cure-all for everyone, even the authors don't lay claim to that title, but I would recommend this book to anyone who lives in an urban environment and feels the strains of everyday life weighing heavily on their health. This book can just save you from that permanent "hung over" feeling every morning.
Rating: Summary: Easy to follow, felt much better Review: I read the book, and did the program. The first day of not eating was easy - it was the second day that was tough (I got very cranky). After that, it's really easy to follow. I found that I had more energy, needed less sleep, and didn't crave muffins and bread as I normally do. The only problem with the book is that some of the food/supplement advice was a bit sketchy. For example, it tells you that you're not allowed soy beans, but you're allowed soy products (but gives no specific examples). Also, it refers you to the ecotox website, where there is supposed to be info. on where you can buy rice products and ask questions, but all it is is a site where you can order the book and read the intro. All in all, I'd recommend this program for anyone who is getting ready to diet. After a week of following the program, any diet you choose to follow will be a cinch to follow, and you'll have the will power to do it.
Rating: Summary: You'll Feel Awesome with this Detox! Review: I read this book front to back and adhered to the recommendations fully. For someone who works full time with two young children, I found it easy to integrate into my life style. I'm 37 and feel incredible. It's been over a month now and I am no longer a chocoholic or crave sugar. Gone is the need for an afternoon "fix" of caffeine. I haven't had a headache since and am finally off antibiotics for an infection I've battled with for years. I've also discovered how different foods impact my body as I slowly integrated them back and have removed or reduced those that impact me negatively, such as wine (sulfites). I've discovered wonderful different herbal teas, given rice cakes a second chance and have found that I love Miso soup. I was amazed at my increased mental clarity and energy. Combine this with Ali McGraw's Yoga video and you'll be set. You can do this!
Rating: Summary: Expensive and not worth the effort Review: If you go on this week long starve your supplements alone are going to run you $100. Then you have to take 5 handfuls of pills every day. I think the author must have stock in the "Twin Lab" corporation because they are the only ones who carry some of the weirder things you have to take. Also, you have to go without food for 48 hours. Doesn't sound hard but if you have a family it is almost impossible. You also have to take cold/boiling showers and do something called "dry skin brushing". I tried it with an open mind and it did nothing for me. The friend who recommended the book tried it with the thought it was going to solve all her problems, and it helped a great deal. So why not skip the complicated starvation and stuff and just believe that you are going to be helped by something simple?
Rating: Summary: 7 Day Detox Miracle Review: In the summer of 1999 I was feeling very sluggish. I could tell that my body was not functioning properly. I have always been "health conscience" and done my best to eat well and take proper supplements. When I would get massages the muscles and the attachements felt like they were on fire. Plus I had a continous ache in my elbow from being a massage therpist and using my arms repeatively over the years. I went to the store looking for something to help me become educated on these symptoms. By chance I picked up this book and immediately saw some encouraging words. I was willing to make the "sacrifice" for seven days. Within two days my elbow eased up in pain. After finishing the program I could tell a tremendous differance. My muscles feel much better, I have more energy and don't have as many urges for poor choices in foods to eat. I did the program again after Christmas and again noticed an improvement. I look forward to doing this program again. Thanks for all your efforts in bringing forth a quality book.
Rating: Summary: Buy me, Buy me..... Review: It all began when I entered a health food store a few days ago, and saw the 7-Day Detox Miracle book, staring at me with a look saying "buy me, buy me". I hesitated at first as I've bought many books on health, only to have them sit on my bookshelf and do nothing other than collect dust.I have suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for a while, and have tried many ways to boost my energy levels, (including buying endless amounts of health books), but to no avail. I reluctantly bought the 7-Day Detox Miracle, hoping it would not have to die a quick death, and join all its fellow health books on that dusty bookshelf. I started to read it the moment I arrived home, and amazingly finished reading it the same day. The information was of high quality and it kept me interested up until the last page. Once completing the self- health check-up, using the guidelines in the book I quickly found out that my habits needed to change. The following day I began the detox program and am currently on my third day.I initially thought that a two day liquid fast would be unbearable and impossible, but to my surprise it was easier than I thought.I am now drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily, and since I am on my third day that makes it 24 glasses - a lot more than I would have drunk in a fortnight - and yes - it's easy.Speaking of water, the hot and cold showers outlined in the book, have turned out to be my favourite. As I am a big fan of hotter than hot showers, I was dreading the moment the water temperature would have to willingly change to cold. The first day was a challenge, yet quite amusing hearing my boyfriend from the other room conduct a countdown after my five minutes of pure bliss hot water, to the dreaded cold. For the three days now, he has been kind enough to provide his ever so empathetic countdown, which allows me to laugh instead of focussing on the cold. It's amazing the amount of energy you obtain simply by alternating hot and cold water. The food guidelines are simple to follow. It wasn't until I sat down and organised my food plan for the week, when I suddenly realised the variety of dishes that can be created using vegetables and rice. I have found, even by following this simple plan for only three days so far, I am pleased to say that I feel more energetic, alert, vibrant and overall a great deal healthier.I highly recommend this book to all - especially my fellow skepticals out there who have a bookshelf just like mine.
Rating: Summary: Well worth reading - even if you think you're feeling great. Review: Once I understood the principal behind the book, I skipped some of the research information and cut to the chase - the programme. After I'd been following the guidelines for a few days, I started feeling really good, and dipped back into the book to read the sections I'd missed. I wanted to know exactly what was happening to me. It's a week long programme, that you can follow every now and again to clean out your system. At the end of the seven days I felt calmer, clearer, lighter and bursting with energy. As well as dietary guidelines (and a two day lemon juice and water fast, not nearly as bad as it sounds!) there are suggestions for other activities to help the detox process. Nothing weird, just proven methods (bodybrushing, sweating, daily exercise and so on). I didn't feel like I was having to refer to it all the time to see what I should be doing or eating, it was really simple. The book is easy to read, not overwhelmingly technical and seems to work. I'd recommend it even if you think you feel healthy. After a week you might be pleasantly surprised.
Rating: Summary: It's not easy - but it works! Review: The book was recommended to me by my yoga teacher and I have to say I had my reservations. I read the book once and then delved back into it as the science of it began to sink in and make sense to me. I was unsure about a two day fast, fearing I would faint away after the first missed meal. Not so! I didn't feel a single pang of hunger throughout. Having completed my week of de-tox successfully I feel great. I'm sleeping deeply and feel refreshed and rejuvenated upon waking in the morning. An added bonus of this whole de-tox week is that I've lost an inch around my hips and my waist! I would recommend this book to anyone seeking better all-round health and an understanding of how the digestive system works.
