Rating: Summary: Very compelling read! A never before told view of Vietnam Review: So many books have been written about Vietnam, that is was very refreshing to finally read about Vietnam and post-traumatic stress, from a never been told point of view. American who had experienced the Vietnam War as a child! The event was so traumatic that it caused him during his late teens to subconsciously be drawn back to that area of the world (like the much older veterans he knew from his youth who also sought healing), by plying the field of journalism. A young and naive photojournalist, he covered a treasure hunter going after Captain Kidd's treasure on an island off the west coast of Vietnam, resulting in Graham's political imprisonment by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam under false accusations of being a spy for the CIA.I was so compelled by Graham's self-healing story that occurred while in solitary confinement in the Vietnamese political prison, that I had to have him contribute a piece to my own book: "Hypnotize This" which is also available here at Amazon.com If you love adventure, a mature writing, and travel, then this book is definitely for you!
Rating: Summary: Amazing father-son story--true sleeper of a story! Review: So many great true-life stories never get reported or get lost through the cracks of time. This is one of them. This is the best father-son story I've read in I can't remember how long! There are some emotionally rough spots (it is the story of an American teenager who survived 11 months of physical and psychological torture and enriched by the challenges) but it's over all a extremely uplifting story, worth going through all the drama for the pay-off. Reading the memoir made me look at the relationship I had with my parents in a whole new light. I recommend this book to anyone interested in pirate treasure, Southeast Asian history, and the one that affects us all, the family dynamic. Great holiday reading, reminding those of us who live the normal day to day, and have so much to be thankful for, how lucky we are! Even if you have not interest in Vietnam or Southeast Asia, get this book for your family and friends. They'll thank you for it!
Rating: Summary: Learn about the success mindset! Review: This book should be really titled as the following: "The Bamboo Chest: A treasure of self-control and success!" I'm in my late 60s and consider this book a worthwhile read. It doesn't matter that I had been in Vietnam during the mid 1960s; nor does it matter that I had been back to Vietnam many times. This book is more than an adventure story about treasure hunting, or healing post-traumatic stress, or even just about Vietnam and US experiences. This is a book about how when faced with almost insurmountable odds, we have within ourselves the most powerful tool for achiving anything, even the most unbelievable: your mind! If you seem stuck in the mud; if you've forgotten those qualities that made you the powerhouse you might have been: get this book now!
