Rating: Summary: The hunger within: A twelve wee self-guided journey Review: I am a social worker who works with patients who suffer from compulsive eating. This book has been the focus of our sessions. It offers many avenues for motivating and developing positive eating habits while gaining insight into the behavior. It touches the soul and brings peace to ending this compulsive disorder . I highly recommend this book!(Go Blue!)
Rating: Summary: It works! I highly recommend it! Review: I highly recommend this book for anyone who is ready to lose the weight, but is unsure about how to go about doing it permanently. I have tried dieting over the course of my life, but it works only temporarily. I learned the methods to lose the weight permanently on this proven program. I started this program in October 1997 at 285, lost 80 pounds and am now at 205 (Feb 99), within a short distance of my goal weight. But, the beauty of it all is that I KNOW that I will never put it back on again, for the first time in my life! This program provides the understanding of why we overeat and provides a road map to recovery. If you are ready to lose the weight permanently, I highly recommend buying this book and giving the writing exercises a try. The results are often times unexpected and highly enlightening. Give it a try, what have you got to lose, other than some unhealthy weight!
Rating: Summary: The Hunger Within Review: I was disappointed with this book, also. I thought the written exercises were a little silly and disappointing. I expected the book to have more substance to it. Overcoming Overeating and It's Not about Food are better books for the money.
Rating: Summary: A Life Saver Review: Not a "quick fix" diet book, but a permanent fix! Sensible, easy to follow program that works and LASTS!!! Helps you understand WHY you overeat, not just what you should eat. Beautiful relevant quotes in each chapter were a lovely touch.
Rating: Summary: A Life Saver Review: This book is simply incredible. The fact that it is set up like a seminar/workshop with exercises (as in assignment) is just wonderful. It really allows you to get involved with the book and with overcoming your problem. You don't just learn about your problem - you actually take the physical steps in moving forward. You can change your life and this book definetly helps.
Rating: Summary: Made me cry Review: This book was bought for a friend. She is only to Week 3 and she has had some MAJOR breakthroughs! What an emotional struggle food addiction is! She said she recommends this book to anyone with food compulsion. Excellant workbook, really gets you involved.
Rating: Summary: The hunger within: A twelve wee self-guided journey Review: Truly An Excellent Book !!! The Hunger Within By Marilyn Migliore puts down on paper Marilyn Migliore's successful methods of treatment that she has used with me. And, I for one, can tell you it works. Up until 2 years ago (6/15/97) I was a size 32W-XXXL, and for most of my life I have been morbidly obece. Today, after losing more than 130 pounds, I am a size 10-12 and have been this way for the last 7 months. After trying every diet on the market, finally The Hunger Within, focuses you on the real reasons why we eat, allowing food to become a source of nourishment and not self-destruction. To all of my fellow readers with the courage to read this book, my most heartfelt wishes for your success.A GREAT BOOK.
