Summary: A quote in this book changed my life!
Review: A quote in this wonderful book changed my life and the way I think about my body that is larger than I want it to be. The quote is as follows:

"Get clear on this: being fat is not disgusting. Child abuse is disgusting. Tying up a dog outside all day and night in every kind of weather is disgusting. Homelessness and starvation and weapons of mass destruction are disgusting. Overweight is a state. A situation. An inconvenience certainly. A threat to health in many cases. A sign, perhaps, of self-indulgence or indifference or emotional distress. But not disgusting."

I cried when I read this. I have honestly looked in the mirror and said to myself "you are disgusting." But, you know what, my being overweight does NOT make me disgusting. Ms. Moran is absolutely correct in putting things in perspective, and she changed the way I think about myself with this one paragraph. I hope you will buy this book and be affected as I was.

Summary: Change your body FOREVER
Review: Fit from within is a must read for everyone trying to lose weight and keep it off. It is not a regular diet book; actually it is far from a diet book, as it tells you not to diet but to eat as a healthy person. There are no menus, recipes or success stories but there is plenty of good advice that will provide you with everything you need to know to change your body and your life. To let go of the diet mentality and start eating as a healthy person is an important message in this book. You do this by eating three meals a day while sitting down, eating good delicious food that you enjoy, in portions that will satisfy your hunger, and making water your beverage of choice. But remember healthy people do not stuff themselves with salty greasy fast food! The author guides you to realizing your spiritual self and surrendering your life to God to be able to come to grips with your life and your eating habits. Don't worry, no breaching here, but do give thanks before and after meals! Another focus of the book is on living a good quality life all the way and not postponing your life till you reach your target weight. Stay centered in today, wear clothes that you like in your current size, groom yourself like a racehorse, develop your mind and talents, laugh and play and get plenty of sleep. As for exercise, walk more, join a friendly gym or discover yoga, don't do too much too soon or it will backfire! Above all be patient, this has to be for the long haul. As the author puts it " If you want only a different body, and not a different way of life, you can't expect the body changes to last, because there will be nothing to sustain them. In other words, you can't just lose weight and go to business as usual without becoming overweight as usual. This has to be for the long haul."
Other recommended books for more details on eating and staying healthy for life are:
1.Eating well for optimum health by Dr. Andrew Weil
2.Fight Fat after Forty by Pamela Peeke
3.Volumetrics by Barbara Rolls and Robert Barnett

Summary: Victoria Moran is a wise and gentle teacher...
Review: I gained weight rather suddenly just about five years ago, after 39 years of eating anything I wanted and never putting on a pound. I have been sad and frustrated by my inability to lose the weight and by the diets and advice which fail miserably...finally, someone has put their arms around me and said it's okay, accept it, be honest, and move forward toward what you want for your body and your life....it doesn't get better than that. I encourage anyone struggling with weight problems or even just a bruised self-image to read this wonderful book NOW!

Summary: Glad I only borrowed from library
Review: I knew better. This is the second Victoria Moran book I've read and I didn't care for the first one either. The one star is for the plug she gave to Overeaters Anonymous. That was her best suggestion. I've got a pet peeve about finishing books that I've started to read. Besides the annoying habit of over using any remote word (this book: "assuage"), it took until page 211 that I had to close the book. In reporting the average height weight for the American female (as 5'4" and weighs 144 pounds), she states, "True, 144 pounds is too much weight for many 5'4" frames, but put this in perspective. Women in this category are not routinely keeling over from premature strokes and heart attacks."

Wow! That felt nasty! Okay, how about if 145 on a woman 5'4" was her target weight in losing many pounds. Imagine the disappointment in reading Ms. Moran's report that this is "too much weight."

Had this discouraging opinion appeared in the beginning of the book, I would have returned it to the library sooner.

Summary: I finally have hope
Review: I may have read every diet book ever written and tried everything that's come down the pike. For the first time, reading Fit From Within, I finally feel that someone understands exactly what I go through trying to control my weight. And she knows a way out. I trust this woman because what she writes rings true. I think that I can now live more freely and fully, and this time, I'm trusting that the weight I lose will actually stay off.

Summary: good advice but nothing new
Review: Reading this book reminded me of all the titbits of wisdom I have gleaned from many books over the years regarding overcoming eating problems and getting back to "normal" eating and "normal" weight. Those that come to mind include: Twelve Steps for Overeaters (L. Elisabeth), The Seven Secrets of Slim People (Vikki Hanson, Shawn Goodman), Fat is a Feminist Issue (Susie Orbach), Feeding the Hungry Heart (Geneen Roth), The Goddess Diet (Larrian Gillespie), Intuitive Eating (Evelyne Tribole, Elyse Rech) etc. Reading the other reviews, I can see there seem to be two main views - either 1) this book is great or 2) this book lacks something. As someone with long-term eating problems (over 25-years' worth!), my advice to prospective readers/purchasers is this. If you do not have a big issue with eating and/or being overweight, this may be the perfect book for you to get back on track. But if you have had long-term eating problems, one book may not necessarily be enough, it may be better to read this as well as a selection of books on related topics and work slowly step by step in your own time and in your own way towards your goal. Becoming fit from within is a very personal issue.

Summary: short stories and subjects...
Review: The book was interesting and had some nice essays. I agree with some of the other reviews that it is little more than articles we ahve all read before, tied together to create this book. The author also states that she was once overweight....I have searched for her before and afters, even on her site and can't find any....does anyone know where I can see what she looked like "before"? I just love before/after stories, I can relate to them more than a person who doesn't understand what it is like to be fat. thanks

Summary: My Best Friend
Review: This book has become my best friend. It supports and guides me in my decisions, it cheers me in my smallest and most grand accomplishments, it encourages me to be kind to myself. It offers me practical advice that really works. I love this book as I would a dear friend, and I recommend it sincerely to anyone who is not 100% accepting of the way she feels, looks, or thinks she is perceived in the world.

I recommend it also as an alternative to protein diets, low-carb diets, special supplements, and other diet gimmicks. This is about real life and real food and living in the real world. It is really a helpful book.

Summary: One of the few books that tells the truth about weight loss
Review: Unlike most weight loss books that offer quick fixes, Fit From Within tells you what's really involved in losing weight -- a body and soul reno project. I love Victoria Moran's writing style and her wonderful sense of humor, but her greatest gift is her honesty -- a breathe of fresh air in a publishing category that thrives on deception.
