Summary: A Caring Approach to Sexuality
Review: "Tantra: The Art of Conscious Loving" by Charles and Caroline Muir is a positive discussion of loving sexuality. Charles and Caroline Muir conduct Tantric vacation seminars in Hawaii. "Tantra ..." does not concentrate upon (Western) neo-Tantric mechanics -- "Tantra ..." is *not* a 'how-to' manual. Rather, "Tantra ..." concentrates upon a couple's interpersonal and sexual relationship, encouraging both partners 'to play by the same rules' using effective communication and shared intimacy to protect and preserve their mutual investment in each other. The Muirs acknowledge that their approach might not save a spoiled relationship, but their approach might prevent a fresh relationship from spoiling.

"Tantra ..." is a textual overview of neo-Tantric sexuality that emphasizes sexual love between equal caring partners. The Muirs summarize neo-Tantric sexuality in a well-written, positive and optimistic manner, but provide no accompanying diagrams. Male ejaculatory control is discussed extensively -- in my opinion the discussed male ejaculatory control methods are *not* reliable, potentially are *very* painful, and *never* should be used as a contraception technique. The Muirs do not discuss 'safe words' -- easily remembered words or phrases signifying 'disengage immediately'. And the Muirs neglect to discuss birth control and 'safe sex' -- serious omissions in *any* discussion of human sexuality.

I believe that "Tantra: The Art of Conscious Loving" is most valuable for new partners in a fresh relationship without entrenched bad habits and attitudes. I recommend "The Art of Sexual Ecstasy: The Path of Sacred Sexuality for Western Lovers" by Margo Anand as a follow-on text for readers wishing detailed neo-Tantric information.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: As a person new to Tantra, I purchased this book in hopes of getting a better understanding of Tantra. I received just that and more. Not only do Charles and Caroline Muir explain Tantra in clear easy to understand language, they take it a step farther and give many examples to make this a truly self help book. I would recommend this book to every couple looking to take their relationship to the highest attainable level.

Summary: a good introduction to tantra
Review: For beginners perfect introduction , but not much insight very few exercices.
however just for "secret of a longer deeper higher orgasm on page 116 and the last 10 pages, this book should be read.
i suggest mantak Chia work, more basic, praactical less romantic.
Enjoy

Summary: Enlightment in a spiritual way.
Review: I am a woman and have always enjoyed sex. I recently have explored Tantra. The Muirs do such an excellent, light, understandable explanation to Tantra. You will understand yourself and your partner in a whole new light. They stress on the real important things, like communication and the understanding of yourself and partner for this connection. This often misunderstood, knowledge, will help you achieve higher levels of intimacy, both mentally and sexually, as a person and together as the connection of a couple. This was a wonderful book and I highly recommend this to anyone. The Muirs have extraordinary way to enlighten you with their unique insight, in a very understandable, enjoyable, spiritual, non- intimidating way.

Summary: The book for Us to share
Review: If there was a manual for our relationship, shouldnt it be one that takes love seriously & Tantra deeply, yet comes off lightly? I recommend this book to you as a guide on the new path-- sexual healing and an honest look at how We might work together. Sure it has a lil bit of "pyramid-hat wearing," but what's Tantra with out a lil' Shiva, Shakti and Chakra action? This book covers a very real method for developing stronger and more harmonious relationships, and I would say that's why this book excels more than the average tantric tome. Breathing together as a daily ritual; "no fault" communication; and a section on healing the sexual wounds of past relationships all make for a useful and informative easy read.
For Us, as we grow on new levels.

Summary: A Deceptive Practice
Review: Tantra means ritual and refers to the transformation of energy, or exchange of forces. The ancient science of Tantra is beyond sex, beyond personality, beyond culture, place and time. Tantrism is a profoundly ancient and sacred science-religion-art-philosophy, a form of knowledge that expresses the true nature of creation on every known level of existence. To reduce this Divine Knowledge into pop psychology and consumer culture is a crime. But this is the American Way: to make everything a product, and every product a wonder-pill that satisifies all desires. Tantrism has become another wonder-pill, a modern snake oil that is being hawked on the naive all over the Western Hemisphere. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many people being seduced into wrong concepts. So many spiritually and emotionally hungry people continue to believe that sex can satisfy the emptiness in their hearts: and they are right, only sex can lead them to that ultimate fulfillment, but NOT animal sex. The lustful sex that we all hunger so desperately for is precisely the root of our problems, and is precisely the rough and crude Stone that must be Perfected: the "stone of stumbling and rock of offense." Sex is the cornerstone of the Temple of the Soul, but it can only be built upon as it is perfected: made holy and pure, by removing what does not belong in it: lust, ego, pride, crulety, instinct, barbarism, gluttony, envy, jealousy, fear, resentment, anger, etc etc. Only when the subjective elements are removed can we enter the Kingdom (innocent and pure as children: without lust, without fear, without anger, without self-will). Sex is the Chariot that takes us to the (Inner) Sun: but only sex under the dominion of the Consciousness, not the Subjective Mind. This is a profound and extraordinarily difficult thing to accomplish, thus Tantra was always given only to very mature students who proved their worthiness and moral strength. The Tantra commonly taught now is a degenerated form of Black Magic that teaches instead how to awaken Consciousness within the Subjective Mind, thus strengthening all the elements that create suffering: desire, lust, anger, pride, greed, etc. No matter how beautiful or esoteric the teaching may sound, no matter how much truth or love is spoken of, if the orgasm is encouraged, it is Black Tantra. All White Tantra demands the renunciation of the orgasm and the elimination of desire: no Master, no Angel, no Purified Soul can have Lust or Anger or Pride. For more information, read "The Perfect Matrimony," "The Mystery of the Golden Blossom," "The Mystery of the Fire" and "The Revolution of Beelzebub" by Samael Aun Weor.

Summary: Great introductory text
Review: The Muirs do an excellent job of reaching out to their target audience in a non-threatening way. They succeed in presenting the concepts of Tantra in a way that's easy for westerners to relate to. While trying to keep things honest, they also present the material in a sensitive way that doesn't offend. They show that sex is only a part of a complete, loving relationship. Many of their suggestions are practical for people in many different situations.

Without saying so, the book seems to assume that readers already have some experience with meditation. I didn't have any prior to reading this book and I think some of the concepts would have been easier had I bought a book on meditation first.

Summary: A gentle, clear, book 4 westerners-
Review: There are many practical ideas in this book that I am still using five years later. I find many of these ideas to be curiously lacking elsewhere in western society. A few of the key concepts seemed obvious to me once I had pondered them, and I have given it some thought over these last many years. This book may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for some ideas on how to make positive life changes, then this book may have some ideas that will help or even inspire you. It was quite easy to read. Don't expect recipes for great sex, although it does include some. This book is more about developing a healthy, nurturing relationship. You will need to do some work to incorporate the ideas from the book with your daily life, but if you are willing to put in a little effort and have a little patience, you can get good results. This book only teaches a small portion of what Tantra is, and the Muir's explain that in the book. If you are looking for more purist information on Tantra you can google for references. You can also google for the Muir's web site.
