Rating: Summary: not very comprehensive Review: mostly about her 2 anorexic daughters and her belief that her intuition saved them and saves others, not much on other eds, bulimia mentioned here and there, just not comprehensive. I didn't find what I needed here.
Rating: Summary: read this book...safe a life Review: this was absolutely the best book on eating disorders i've ever read. and i've read plenty to know a good one from a bad one. having suffered from anorexia and related issues for many years, and in and out of therapy since grade school, i can recognise when someone truly understands this disorder; and this woman has got it. it was actually scary to read peggy claude-pierre's "The Secret Language of Eating Disorders," but only because it was as though she was writing about my life, my feelings, my body, my soul. it was as though she was writing about me. how peggy knows this is amazing in itself. never having suffered from an eating disorder, she managed to get both of her children out of the grasp of anorexia. by sheer willpower and the refusal to watch her children die before her eyes, she battled the negativity of the condition and nurtured the actual self, winning the battle of her children's lives. i would recommend this book to everyone out there, not just those suffering themselves. this book is the first that focuses on the condition behind the eating disorder. you never know if someone is suffering. in that sense, and this books focuses on the suffering--for the person, for the people who love the person inflicted. for society as a whole, because each of us is connected to eating disorders. ...if anything, this book taught me the most important thing i've ever learned about eating disorders and about myself. anorexia and bulimia are a way of thinking...not a way of looking. when you treat the soul, the broken soul of the anorexic/bulimic, the body heals itself. when one learns to love themself, there is no need to starve or purge. peggy claude-pierre has gotten this more than some "specialists" out there. she is a genius, a guru if i may, when it comes to treating eating disorders. she treats the person, not the condition. and that's the key. there is a person in there, screaming to get out. but they aren't able to use their voice to tell their pain. so they use their bodies to scream it for them. peggy claude-pierre knows the thing that could end eating disorders for our society. allow her words to seep into your soul. look around you and you will find people who need peggy's findings. who need her (and your) help. there's many of us out there. some suffer in silence for years, others die of the disease. many we are not even aware of. learn to help peggy help the world. open your heart up to this wonderful lady and you will learn about yourself. and possibly save a life.
