Rating: Summary: Let's be FREE from Belief Systems Review: After progressing from Catholicism to Swedenborg's writings to Shamanism then to discovering Robert Monroe's books (one literally fell onto me in a 2nd hand Book Store) I felt that in the end, the only way to really know the Truth was to 'find out for yourself'.SO MANY different belief systems, religions etc abound today that unless one can stand outside of all this, one will inevitably become 'locked in' to a pattern that will limit your most inward drive to the Greatest Freedom - in truly knowing who you are, where you came from etc. The impact of Robert Monroe's books upon my life have been something I cannot easily put into words, since words are often not enough to convey the subtle nuances of feeling associated with inner knowing. His highly credible nature, along with his clear & objective analysis of his experiences MINUS any copious indoctrination that would naturally obscure the greater Truth, allows for some refreshingly direct and persuasive reading. After buying some of his HemiSync tapes and using them for a long time I found that in essence, this man's story had to be true and of the greatest import for me personally. Having had a near death experience when I was eleven that I found to be just something strange and to be kept secret, I felt an emotional sigh of relief being able to connect all of those mysterious things of that serious time in my life, in the clear light of a new and deeper understanding obtained through reading about the same reality that Robert alludes to in his books. Please, people, read all 3 of his books in order to reach the fullest understanding of the message within his experiences. Robert, Thanks for helping me to remember....
Rating: Summary: Transforming and Far Out! Review: After reading many books by several empowering authors such as Betty Eadie, John Edward, Sylvia Browne, and Tiffany Snow, that I am still reading, my life has opened up to me in such a compelling and wonderful way. This new book is well written, and thought provoking. There are great transforming authors, who shift the consciousness of humankind in a way never known before, and have the courage to reveal their paranormal experiences. "Far Journeys" is one of these.
Rating: Summary: GREAT WORK! Best book about human existence. Review: I have read Monroe's 3 books, and this one seems to be the most intriguing and enlightening. While his first book talks about the mechanics of Out of Body Experience ( written in the early days when he was still experimenting with it), this book talks about his Far Journeys to the outer realms of existence, out of time and space limitation, where he learns about the cycle and meaning of human existence (this will be the first time you read something like this from a rational straightforward perspective, without any religious conotations). Talks about human existence in time and space, and about existence outside of time and space. He meets a brighlty glowing enlightened being who knows everything about him (somewhat like his guide) who guides and shows him about life itself (most people who had Near Death Experience think that glowing being as their God, or Jesus, Allah, angels or whatever God they believe in, which Monroe many years later in his 3rd book 'Ultimate Journey' discovered who that glowing being truly is! You will be absolutely shocked and surprised!!) In this book he uses a lot of new terms which he uses to describe the Non-Verbal Communication (NVC)(similar to telepathy) and Ideas he experienced and communicated in the out of body state, into verbal language (English) which we use to make sense of things. Spirits don't use languages like humans do, since language is a human creation!! That is the reason why he used many unusual terms, to generally describe the NVC to the reader. It actually isn't that hard to read, you just have to flick the pages and refer to his word list (only about 15 words) to look up what it means.
Rating: Summary: Pure, unadulterated science fiction gibberish! Review: I've read all three of Monroe's books and this is by far his best. In this book he has accepted the OOB experience for what it is and has stopped worrying about his sanity. In this book, he has also pretty much perfected his OOB techniques and begins to have truly meaningful experiences and revelations.
There is one aspect of this book that Monroe touches upon very briefly but is of utmost importance to understand. Once you master the OOB experience, you become psychic, telepathic and the body is less likely to suffer physical trauma as a result of accidents. Monroe clearly describes two incidents where he fell down a steep flight of stairs head first and landed smack on his head both times. However, he said that his head touched the ground gently, like a feather, while his legs remained dangling in the air. His legs then gently draped down onto the stairs and he suffered no pain and developed no bruises. It is because of these "side-effects" of lucid dreaming, that Toltec sorcerers and Shamans sought to practice and perfect OOB techniques. For more information about this aspect of the OOB experience read 1) The Art of Dreaming- Carlos Castaneda; 2) The Path- Esmeralda Arana.
Rating: Summary: Almost as good as the first one... Review: Robert Monroe uniquely writes about a world known as the spirit realm. He is not religous in any manner, giving a very scientific and objective point of view of astro-projection. Other than writing about his adventures, which are very discriptive and energenic, he keeps a detailed log, and methodically writes down his experiences/data. If his accounts are true, Monroe has writen deeper, clearer and more exciting than any other astro-projection author around. Monroe has even developed a whole scientific center inabeling normal people to learn how to astro-project using non-traditional and non-religious methods (The Monroe Institute). If you have not read the first book ("Journy's Out Of The Body", a 5 star book), I recomend doing so before reading this one.
Rating: Summary: A must read for OOBE enthusiasts. Review: This book was by far the best of Bob Monroe's three books, and better than any other authors books on the Out of Body experience. Besides being a highly suspensful and great read. I learned so much about non-local reality, techniques for OOBE's and how a very normal person reacts to and processes these odd occurances. I felt I knew the author after reading this. He gained much insight from his travels.
Rating: Summary: THe best of the Monroe books! Review: THis for me is the best of the 3 books Monroe wrote, and the one I enjoyed the most. This is not a book about OBE theory, technique etc., but mainly accounts of Monroe's OBE experiences. Unlike in his first book Journeys Out of the Body, most of his 'journeys' in this book were into the higher realms (as opposed to the close-to-physical-reality realms), or involved encounters with higher intelligences/beings from other non-physical reality. What you get therefore are exciting adventures, teachings, wisdom passed on, etc. And that is what makes this book so superb. It really opened my eyes to the wonders of the astral world, and made me even more determined to get out of my body! :) A must-read.
Rating: Summary: One of my most favorite of all time Review: This is one of my two most favorite books on OOBE's -- (the other one is "Otherwhere" by Kurt Leland). And in my opinion, this is Robert Monroe's best book. Though I might suggest reading his "Journeys Out of the Body" first--which is also a great book. I found myself completely immersed in this book--and I think you would be too.
Rating: Summary: FAR OUT AND YET MAYBE TRUE Review: This was my first Robert Monroe book. I bought it after reading many enthusiastic Amazon reviews and after being told that Monroe is a top expert in this area. What a disappointment! The book is very poorly written and excruciating boring. It is difficult to believe anybody could write a dull book about such a fascinating subject. Monroe can't even write an Introduction. The book starts with a Foreword that doesn't make any sense. As you proceed and read one chapter after the other, it doesn't get any better. You don't find one single interesting insight or explanation about out-of-body-experiences. Monroe assumed that everybody has read his previous book, so he doesn't care to explain what is going on. It is like entering a theater to watch a (bad) movie that started two hours ago. There are many pages describing "experiments" that produced nothing but worthless testimonials. There is nothing remotely scientific or interesting about these experiments. They might as well be testimonials from drug consumers. Only hard core New Age lunatics can believe in half this stuff. I am not a skeptic, but Monroe makes me feel like one. It seems to me that after writing two books about out of body experiences, Mr. Monroe finally ran out of things to say. I am very angry with the Amazon reviewers who induced me into wasting my money into something so totally worthless.
