Rating: Summary: It's great but... Review: As all of the previous reviewers say, this book covers many essential concepts regarding choosing right cloth for oneself. However, what frustrates me is the color-choosing section. The author introduces several good ideas. And when it comes to how to coose right colors for one, she recommands the readers to seek help from "professional color consultants." As a student with shoestring budget, I'd rather the author teaches me how to coose the right colors for myself in this all-in-one book!
Rating: Summary: Looking Good Review: I highly recommend this book. The information covered was fairly detailed and it did not just focus on one area of style. Although the pictures shown were out of date, the concepts remain the same. I especially enjoyed the sections on determining your body style and making the most of your body. Even though trends change, the concepts of what looks good on individual people does not. You just have to adapt the information to the current trends.
Rating: Summary: Needs to be updated Review: I will give this book the thumbs up for the good content, the good tips on dressing and choosing the right kind of clothes based on both your personal style and your colour group. My only 2 dissatisfactions are: 1. Limiting dress styles to only the 4 groups are not realistic, I cannot find myself fitting into any of them. 2. The pictures are out-dated, with dress styles showing out-of-date clothes and accessories. I think this book should be given a new look (which is what it is supposed to help women to achieve!) of up-to-date examples of just what they are trying to show.

Rating: Summary: A resource book for every woman Review: I'm Looking Good! After years of hiding behind long, baggy coats wondering if it was safe to come out lest my slacks make me look too broad-in-the-beam or my belt confirm everyone's suspicion that I have no real waist line; Nancy Nix-Rice has written a truly useable criteria for figure assessment and clothing selection. I drew 14 dots on a large piece of paper, connected them, folded the paper 8 times and voila! I'm not short-wasted or slope-shouldered after all. I am pear-shaped and heavy--not a problem. Looking Good is a guide for those masses of real women who have always hoped they could be beautiful, if only they knew the rules. Looking Good enables the reader to dress beautifully from color choice and figure-flattering styles, to fabric selection and care. From storing your wardrobe in a closet, to packing it all up for a trip overseas, every woman can benefit by these easy-to-understand rules of style. Cathy Tripod
Rating: Summary: Looking Good Review: Looking Good presents clear advice, lots of illustrations, good ideas. It is occasionally contradictory, and not always practical. This book offers advice that is deceptively simple. With it, you could make-over your entire wardrobe and never complain you have nothing to wear again. This is a thorough and sensible, if time-consuming, approach to making over your wardrobe so you will never be able to say "I have nothing to wear!" again. (Unless it's laundry day, anyway.) It's a very visual book, which is helpful when she's illustrating why one thing flatters and another does not. I like and recommend this book. NOTE: This book has a huge Anglo bias. Nearly all of the illustrations and photos are Caucasian women. This doesn't mean that the fashion tips are flawed, but some readers may be put off by this.
Rating: Summary: Amazing amount of information in this book! Review: Nancy Nix-Rice introduces the concept of "clothes capsules" in her book "Looking Good." These are sets of your existing clothes (or helped out with items you might want to purchase.) These are tops that go with slacks, skirts, the accessories. You put them together in your closet and never have to say "I don't have anything to wear." You also can learn to purchase items (even those tempting bargains) that fit with the capsules. But that isn't all that is in here. There is scarf-tying help, accessory advice, color advice for your complexion, make-up advice including a face chart, sewing information, mending, clothes and fabric care, renovation and remodeling out-of-style clothes, and how to pick the proper clothes to flatter any figure. And I mean ANY. She has photos that are astonishing, showing how even someone with a very full figure can instantly improve the very same outfit by using a buckle, the right color stockings and the right hem length. Just about anything you'd need to know about keeping your wardrobe up to date and flattering to you is in this book.
Rating: Summary: Looking Good: A Comprehensive Guide To Wardrobe Planning, Review: There were several "Eureka!" moments, as I read Nancy's book, when I actually wanted to personally call the author and thank her for writing such a valuable resource. I'm an aspiring image consultant and am voraciously reading every image book I can get my hands on. This book does an incredible job of using visual illustrations to support concepts that--if only explained in paragraph form--would be utterly confusing. A great example? I've always avoided double-breasted blazers because they did not flatter my curvier, short-waisted figure. Nancy's visual showing a simple changing of the buttons showed me that I CAN wear such a garment--and it can actually flatter me. Yup . . . a Eureka moment, to be sure. I've been a college educator for fourteen years and know when potentially "complex" information is presented clearly. This book visually manages to do just that. I wish I had found this book sooner. Sign me--one grateful reader.
