Rating: Summary: Grrrrrreat book! Review: After years of trying every workout video craze, walking, running, free weights and just not getting consistent and right results, I have seen the light with this book. Following his exercise program for my shape every other day is like having a personal trainer..I have my heart rate monitor on and I'm in the zone for over 40 minutes of this 45-60 minute workout. And I'm sweating profusely, which you should be doing if you want to accomplish anything cardio/aerobically. I found a 4lb. bodybar...for [less] (it's a little shorter than a typical bodybar, but it does the trick.) AND I never thought I'd like JUMPING ROPE, but my Lord, I do like it, and within days I was jumping for a longer duration and getting a lot out of it. My clothes are fitting better, and it's only been 2 weeks. I will finally get the sleek body I've been hoping for after years of uneven results and I FEEL better, stronger, healthier. THANK YOU Edward!
Rating: Summary: Really does work... Review: I can't say enough great things about this book. Within the first couple of weeks of starting this program, I noticed big differences in my weight and how my body looked. The workouts are for your specific body type and they are not hard to do, nor do they require a gym membership. I have always gained and lost the same 10-15 pounds and could never rid myself of those "problem areas" even at a my healthiest weight. Now the weight is staying off and the problems areas are REALLY going away for the first time ever. I have lost around 8 pounds and even more inches. It is exciting and motivating to see this happening. This book definitely helps you get results that last. I feel healthy and strong and I love exercising -- and that is a first for me.
Rating: Summary: You've Been Wasting Your Time! Review: I have tried many exercise programs but none have given the results this program does. The workouts are simple but effective with little equipment needed. The workouts are also fun and challenging, giving 3 levels for each workout. There are also other suggestions in case the workouts get too routine. In the first month I lost about 6.5 inches. The best thing about this program is that you can do it anywhere. I recently went on vacation and was able to complete the workouts while out of town. This is something I can do for the rest of my life.
Rating: Summary: A Great Workout! Review: I started to get serious about exercising about 4 years ago. I began running on the treadmill and lifting weights a couple times a week. I became addicted to exercising after I lost 10 lbs in a month. I stuck with this workout for a few years and although I was down to my desired weight, the "problem areas" were still apparent. Frustrated, I slacked off around the holidays last year and gained 10 lbs. AHHHH! At the end of January (I'd had enough of trying to stuff my legs into my favorite jeans) 2002 I discovered Escape Your Shape. WOW! I absolutely love this book! I am an hourglass and I was doing squats and lunges as part of my routine...no wonder my legs never got any smaller. After 3 months of EYS workouts I lost 10 lbs and many inches...wearing a size 6 comfortably. I have never felt so good about myself. This is truly an amazing approach to the correct exercises for your body. I havent performed a squat in over a year! If you stick with this (its kind of tough at first) you WILL see results!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good... Review: I tried the Escape your Shape workouts about a year ago (2003) for 4-6 months. I was happy initially, but the workouts are NOT intense enough to take off the weight (only inches), unfortunately. I am now doing workouts that burn anywhere from 400-600 calories and the muscle toning is much more intense and the reps are higher and the cardio workouts are also much harder.
At the time of the workouts I was not modifying my diet enough and my sugar-intake was too high as well as the calories. But now, I have modified my diet and with my new workouts I have lost a total of 15 pounds along with a new low-carb diet. Mr. J's book says to do low-carb, but the caloric intake is WAY too low! But, he is right that you do need to workout at least 5-6 days/week to loose any type of significant weight and inches.

Rating: Summary: For Anyone Who Is Frustrated With Dieting & Exercise Review: I truly enjoyed this book on many levels, diet, exercise, and most importantly body type, which few if any books/videos address. If you have tried dieting only to find that you still have not lost inches in the key areas that bothered you to begin with, TRY THIS!Within one week, I had lost 1.5 pounds by eating sensibly, and lost inches as well! For the first time in my life, I know that I can do the exercises that won't bulk me up, but address my specific target areas that need work. I am very confident at by doing the exercises especially designed for my body type, I can not only lose weight and inches, but REDEFINE my body. Something I have never been able to do with "normal" dieting and exercise.I recommend you buy Dr. Jackowski's accompanying book, "Hold it! You're Exercising Wrong". I read it first, and it really help me build a foundation of understanding how body type and utilizing the right exercises for that body type can aid in a toned and defined shape. The only thing on the down side, is that the "Escape Your Shape" addresses all of the body types, so, once you know what your body type is, you have to skip a good portion of the book. In saying that, though, I have several friends who have recognized their "body types" and are planning on getting into their proper exercise program soon. The other thing is that the exercise program is most beneficial if you have exercise equipment and a jump rope, aerobic bar, et. I got around that by buying a very inexpensive rope, I used 4 pound rebar, so I did not have to by an aerobic bar, and am using my neighbor's stationery bike. So, the only money I invested was the cost of books. Not a bad investment at all when you consider the results.Good luck on finding what works for you on your exercise and/or diet journey.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Program Review: I've been utilizing Jackowski's hourglass routine for two weeks now and though it is too early to see the results I am thrilled with the workout. Though I have always done cardio, I have never consistantly weight trainned. This book made me realize that I need to be doing a total body workout, not just cardio. Be warned, the workouts are short (60 min tops) but they are intense! I really feel like I am working every muscle in my body. Can't wait to see the results! One small annoyance; for my body type, Jackowski recommends using a 4 lb aerobic bar. Turns out that no fitness stores sell 4 lb. bars. The only way to purchase one is through his website or at Exude, his gym. This was dissapointing since the 4 lb. bar that he sells is very expensive! I have found ways to compensate though and I'm sure you will too.
Rating: Summary: If you think about it, it makes sense Review: If people were exactly alike, then one type of exercise or workout would work for everyone, right? Well, we know that people are different, and so does Edward Jackowski. He classifies people into 4 different shapes: "hourglass" (gains evenly on top and bottom) "spoon" (those who are heavier on bottom than top) "cone" (top-heavy people, who are generally at higher risk for strokes and heart attacks) and "ruler" (pretty much the same measurements from chest to hips- like an hourglass but with a thicker waist). Each "shape" has exercises that are perfect for them, but there are also exercises that they should avoid. I.E. "Spoons" should never use stair climbers/steppers, walk outside or on a treadmill on an incline, do squats or lunges or rollerblade (think of those Olympic speed skaters legs!). These things will only add to the bulkiness of their bottom. Instead, they should focus on fast walking or slow jogging (without hills or incline), biking (stationery or outdoors)with light resistence only, and all variations of chin-ups, pull-ups, and push ups, just to name a few. It's amazing how easy this program is. The "work out smarter, not harder" concept proves true- you'll see results pretty quickly without having to kill yourself in the process. Buy this book and figure out what your shape is, and also learn why jumping rope is the best cardio exercise around...
Rating: Summary: FINALLY! Review: Prior to reading this book, my workout routine was a MESS! 10 yrs ago I lost weight with aerobic exercise alone and that was fine, but, I still didn't like the way I looked. Still had flab in places I didn't want. So, after having my first child 2 yrs ago, I'm in serious need of reshaping and losing weight. I knew though that this time around I would have to incorporate weight training in order to keep "tone". However, I had NO idea how to incorporate aerobics, weights, how much weight, how many reps, how much time, etc. I was bouncing back and forth for 2 yrs with my workouts, and have seen NOTHING! No results at all. So, that's why I decided to buy this book. WOW! Not only did it tell me that for my Hourglass shape free weights aren't such a good idea (which I was noticing prior to reading this book), my legs and upper body were getting bigger/bulkier than I wanted! So, this book explained everything and put the whole exercise regime into perspective without spending TONS of time on working out. I've just started this routine and am on my second week, so, I will let you know how it's worked out for me. But, I believe I've noticed some results already. Jumping Rope is not as bad as I thought! Especially when you get better each time you do it!
