Rating: Summary: Good Purchase! Review: After reading this book,I practiced some of the anti-OCD methods described in this book, and was quite successful. Baer pulls no punches in this compelling examination of OCD,it's pain, and the methods used in recovering from it. As with Jeffrey Schwartz's Brain Lock, and Judith Rapoport's The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing,it's filled with other Ocd sufferers' experiences,so you won't feel isolated from the rest of the world. The book isn't that long,so you can be on the road to recovery in a few days.
Rating: Summary: If you have OCD or a loved one with OCD~~BUY THIS BOOK! Review: As a sufferer of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This was truly my favorite book on the subject. The author is a top notch doctor with the best facts on the illness. A weight was lifted off my shoulders when I starting to read this, just about any thought you think or action that you do that you think is "crazy" is in this book. Dr. Baer puts you at ease, is very compassionate. He explains that this is an illness and you are by no means crazy. There are storys of actual patients stories and how they went about helping them. He goes over their therapies and medications. This can be a self help book or there are many resources of where you can go for help, or find clinics in in or near your city. There is even a OCD foundation that you can contact for help. Dr. Baer, in my opinion should win some kind of award for this wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: He did it again! Review: I must admit I was skeptical when I started reading Dr. Baers revised edition of Getting Control. How can a book like this possibly get better? But it truly does. He has a lot more NEW information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). As a sufferer of OCD, the first book was a life saver. This book gave me even more useful information and self help skills. I especially liked the new theory on thought stopping. He covers all the new medications approved for OCD. And other that are not approved but are showing promise. He covers the anxiety that comes with OCD and how to control it. There is more real life patient stories. That I could identify with. He even includes his e-mail address in case you would like to contact him! Again, Dr. Baur's true concern and compassion for his patients suffering shines through. This is a truly wonderful and extremly helpful book!
Rating: Summary: Good Purchase! Review: I was extremely pleased with the easy to read and follow instructions in this book. I was able to follow the program quickly and easily. I would definately recommend.
Rating: Summary: this book wasn't right for me. Review: I was looking for a step by step process, but this book isn't written that way. If you're looking for a step by step process..this isn't it. One thing I don't like about this book is that it's more like stories of the authors patients and also the author keep saying I will talk about something in chapter so and so, I talked about it in chapter so and so....sign of a bad self help book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful and amazing book Review: This book -- and a similar one by Joseph Ciarrochi called "The Doubting Disease" -- helped turn my life around when I was deep under with OCD. Now I am so much better, and I am forever grateful. If you have OCD then don't waste your life not reading this book.
