Rating: Summary: The Medical Advisor - best book I own! Review: I absolutely treasure this book and recommend that every household have it! I have turned to it time and time again and share it with family and friends. It is easy to understand, thorough and most of all easy to use. I feel more at ease knowing that I can understand my body better and can actually do something to help prevent and or cure myself. The best part is that it covers both conventional as well as alternative treatments for each ailment in just a few pages. I must say that everyone in my household has used it at one time or another and it is almost never up on the shelf...even when no one is sick, someone at home is reading it to understand the body better! It's that well written!! I wish Time Life would come out with an updated edition as I cannot find the book anymore and I'd like to purchase a copy for siblings who want one of their own.
Rating: Summary: Every Home Needs The Medical Advisor Review: I bought The Medical Advisor in 1997 and it's one of the most important books I own. I use it to look up my symptoms whenever I get sick and check out all my medicine in the large drug reference section. This book is wonderfully comprehensive. Each topic is covered in four pages or less. In ten to fifteen minutes you find out what you need to know. The text is well written and consistently uses language everyone can understand. That's why every home can use The Medical Advisor.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended! Review: Im 16 years old and interested in being a doctor. This book has a lot of information ranging from an atlas of the body to what to do in certain emergencies. But the main part of the book is an alphabetized index that explains in detail things from bee stings, to pneumonia, to back pain. It shows conventional methods along with alternative methods like acupressure and herbal remedies. This is a great book to have around the house and doesn't cost as much as some medical books do.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended! Review: This book is very informative and has helped me numerous times to make correct judgements. On one occasion, my father-in-law felt nausea and had double vision. He was sent to hospital. The doctor there said that he was perfectly okay and was going to send him home. After consulting the book, I suspected that he had had a stroke. When we told the doctor, he said it was not likely and insisted that he was okay to go home. We went to another hospital regardless of what the doctor said. The doctor at the second hospital said that it was a good thing he looked for help in time otherwise the stroke would leave permanent damage to his sytem. I am not saying this book can replace your doctors. But at least we can understand more of a lot of common diseases, and hopefully we can catch what mistakes doctors made instead of trusting them blindly.
