Rating: Summary: Not Just for "Sluts" Review: It may be surprising, but even though this book is focused towards a more sexually "open" lifestyle, there is still a lot of good information for those who prefer the traditional monogamous lifestyle. The "ethical" in the title refers to the fact that the authors believe that anyone we have relationships with should be treated as people and not as things. To that end, they stress the importance of communication, owning one's feelings and cooperative problem solving. These are skills that are useful in any relationship, whether it's exclusively with one person or open to several. The chapter on jealousy is particularly noteworthy.
Of course a book with a title like this is also going to talk about sex. And, while the language is often coarse, the message is worthwhile. Many people have been so conditioned by society to think of sex as bad, they are unable to bring up the subject, even with their lover. Whether you have one partner or several, the ability to talk about your needs and desires is important in strengthening the relationship(s).
This is truly a case of "don't judge a book by its cover". Give it a chance; you may be surprised at what you discover.
Rating: Summary: A very educational and entertaining read Review: Not only is this book very well written and clear in discussing a variety of complex issues, it is completely devoid of superfluous baggage such as spirituality and religious beliefs. The authors present their observations with much sensitivity and skill. It's a real pleasure to be enligthen by them.
Rating: Summary: After many readings I still learn from this book. Review: This book isn't JUST for[...]
There is more practical information here on setting personal boundaries, keeping mutual agreements with your partner, showing respect, dealing with unpleasant emotions, fighting fair, nurturing a loving relationship, and maintaining personal integrity than in most books I have read for monogamous couples!
It might also be excellent for those recovering from co-dependency issues and getting back into the dating scene.
If you even SLIGHTLY think you might be into non-monogamy, read this first, and see if you can handle it. Not everyone has the integrity to handle open relationships. But everyone who wants to try should know how to do it right.
