Rating: Summary: ALKALIZING YOUR CHEMISTYRY IS ESSENTIAL FOR HEALTH Review: For all those skeptics out there Bob Barefoot never says coral calcium cures anything, but what he does state is that the body heals itself, if given the right ph chemistry. For the person that wrote the review on the FTC charges against Bob Barefoot and coral calcium...the charges against Bob Barefoot were ,in fact, dropped the next day after filing suit...they had no case against him and they knew it. The book itself is written poorly..he would have done better to have a ghost writer. People need to stop believing in pharmaceuticals to help all their illnesses, when there are natural ways of healing yourself.Bob Barefoot states this over and over in his book...and not one time does he make a statement that coral calcium cures anything. For those who are skeptic, if you test your ph and you find out you are acid..if you alkalize you will notice within in a couple of weeks an increase in your energy level and also you will start sleeping sounder and get that deep rem sleep, that is required for repairing your body. if you have acid reflux or gerd, your symptoms will be completely eliminated after 3-4 weeks..and astonishingly you can eat things like tomatoes, cucumbers, onion...and not get the heartburn. i watched my mom's health transform over a year, since she has been on it. she has no more arthritis pain in her hands and the acid reflux she had for 9 years was gone after taking the coral calcium for one month.she went from a 5.5 ph to a 6.5 and what a difference in her energy level and sleeping pattern, she was always a nite marrauder an now she sleeps like a baby.i watched my sister who had a high reading for her liver 3 times what was normal...her doctor took her off all vitamins and drugs and let her stay on the coral calcium only...after 4 months she had more tests that showed her liver readings came back to normal.she also went from a 5.5 ph to a 6.5, she also had acid reflux and now she doesn't , as long as her chemistry stays alkaline. so bottom line our bodies have the ability to heal themselves, if given the proper nutrients, vitamins and minerals...and calcium is essential for the healing to take place.in regards to the FTC suit, the large pharmaceutical corporations would love to see coral calcium go away, if you know what i mean. when you look at the cost of exp. nexium at $300 a month (this being a maintenance drug taken every month for the rest of your life) they stand to lose allot ,considering it's $20.00 a bottle for coral calcium. Bob Barefoot states a fact when he says that the large pharmaceutical corporations can't patent a vitamin or mineral, so they want nothing to do with it ,because there is no money in it.the pharmaceuticals are a $364 billion dollar a year industry.
Rating: Summary: A poorly put together work of genius Review: Given the importance of what the writers of this fascinating and deeply important book have done with THE CALCIUM FACTOR, it seems stupid to comment about its issues, which are only indirectly related to its content. But they are so prevalent and distracting anyone wanting to read the book should be prepared for them:=the endless amount of typos =the poor choice of typesetting and fonts and haphazard uses of bold print, italics and quotation marks to make important points =the total absence of a bibliography and/or proper footnotes at the end or in any of the chapters =the quick references to the historically documented existence of his perspective on the healing properties of coral calcium that come and go without documentation to back it up (Mr. Barefoot tells us a few times that Europe owes its discovery to the 16th century Spanish explorers who brought it home and sold it from Okinawa, Japan, but quotes none of the explorers or doctors of old Spain that commented on it) =the structure of the book that makes much of the scientific data supplied to prove his thesis nearly overwhelming and terribly confusing at times to the layman (Mr. Robert Barefoot is supposedly a world renowned chemist)... How I would love to have been one of his co-writers or his editor for this project--or seen to it that he hired someone to serve this role. These distracting issues are all of the things, that, like the effect of seeing the angel Gabriel descend through the heavens in pair of torn jeans, old Nikes, a backward cap on and a dirty T-shirt with a SMITH/BARNEY logo (while speaking his Godly message with a suburban accent instead of playing his horn) inevitably get in the way of the profound message they have for us. The unprofessional, thrown-together-by-high-school-students impression it gives you may even lead you to think, if only for a second, that the current medical establishment just might have had something when they supposedly took away Dr. Reich (the co-writer)'s medical license and ignored the two of these guys as if they were quacks. Combined with the structural issues of the book, i.e. the chapter set-up, they make the writers look like the guy with the "REPENT, THE END IS NEAR" picket signs you see in the train stations of New York City in the old movies, instead of the paradigm-shifting Galileos of modern medicine with a profound message to share that they probably are. Make no mistake, however: this is still easily a SIX-star rated book. I would give maybe two stars at best to any other book with all these problems of unprofessional structure and form that distract one from, what is in this case, the amazing power of its content. If you find yourself attracted to the idea that there is a mineral that could not only be a building block of health, but, as a natural protector and healer of the body, a cure for nearly every major disease in existence--from diabetes to cancer--than this book is for you in a big way. If you are an educated person in medicine--a doctor, etc.--who is sick and tired of hearing about books advertising panaceas like this, believing none of them have a basis in scientific rigor...than this book is even MORE for you than anyone else! Barefoot and Reich, despite my critiques in the previous paragraphs, go through great pains to show much of the scientific, historical and anecdotal evidence of the validity of their theory, as well as the socio-economic and cultural/psychological reasons as to why it has not been embraced by the medical establishment, despite its lucidity and the degree to which it saves lives. They made a believer out of me by the time I got half way through it. In THE CALCIUM FACTOR, Barefoot and Reich show how calcium, more than carbon or iron and maybe as much as oxygen, is the building block of life itself. Its role in creating an alkaline environment in our body chemistry as opposed to an acidic one is completely explained. And the role of alkaline environments in our body chemistry and its ability to prevent both the onset and spread of diseases--the overwhelming majority of which can only exist in an acidic one (like all forms of cancer)--is also completely explained. But most importantly, they do manage to break it all down for people who don't speak *medicine-ese* such that the average person can see the multitude of benefits of putting more calcium in your diet, and the best way to do so. By the time you get to the pretty astounding testimonies from people who conquered otherwise incurable diseases and whose lives were saved by this new approach to health, you will already be ready to pick up some coral calcium at your health food store, like me. This is an amazing book that is a gift to modern culture despite its issues of construction. I'm ready to use it myself to save lives in my famlily.
Rating: Summary: Some confirmation Review: I have yet to read the book, but I've been taking coral calcium for eleven months--though I have no interest in trying to sell it to anyone--you can buy it at the drug store or the health food store. Before I started I was consuming Tums like candy. Since I started I've had no Tums at all. I've also noticed a significant jump in my energy and ability to think. I've tried a number of other highly touted "cures" that did not produce these results, so this isn't a matter of the placebo effect. One thing I would not have expected was that I might be able to achieve an alkaline body with the diet that I was eating apart from coral calcium. For a variety of reasons it was almost entirely acid-producing after digestion. Yet recently I have had two separate confirmations that my body is in an extremely healthy alkaline condition. I am also struggling with problems of the need for spinal nerve regeneration and there is some evidence of progress. Those who believe that is impossible need to read Mind and Brain by Jeffrey Schwarz, as well as the recent New Yorker article on Christopher Reeve. The success of coral calcium reinforces the fact that while America has the best medical system in the world when it comes to emergency medical care it has one of the worst in almost every other respect. It is time more doctors started figuring out how to improve health rather than putting so much energy into trying to prevent others from doing so--most emphatically including their gullible patients. It does seem to be true that doctors kill more people than any other single factor except smoking, and that's not just because there are so many people being treated or so many drugs being used. Fortunately, ever larger numbers of doctors are beginning to realize that alternative medicine should be used in combination with traditional medicine in order to produce the best results.
Rating: Summary: Saved me from dept Review: I titled my review saved me from dept simply because I would have surly went into dept if it were not for this book. I spent tons of cash on prescription and over the counter drugs attempting to stop my constant allergies which I had been suffering from since I was a child, but nothing did the job. Until one day a friend reccomended this book, and it changed my life forever. I'll put it in three words for you (I can breath!). I reccomend this book for anyone looking for another option or just looking to learn more about their health
Rating: Summary: You can't argue with results but people still try Review: If you read this book and are not impressed you did not understand what Barefoot was writing about. His references are not refutable. Sources are recognized as tops in the field. I tried the Coral Calcium and can tell you that not trying it is just plain stupid. This stuff works. It will make you feel so much better that you will echo all that you hear on the TV infomercials. Particularily any cancer patient should take his advice. Results are unbelievable in his documented study.
Rating: Summary: The Quacking is About to Stop Review: It's up to you to try this product, but before you do, make sure you do some research or consult your physician. I think that's fair advice. What follows is my take. In this poorly written book, Barefoot's assertions about calcium are simply unproven and misleading. Previous reviews try to make a case by relying on individual experience. That's just not enough. The review from a 'reader' from Ossian, IN, for instance, is just simply ignorant. This anonymous reviewer does not include any facts other than s/he tried it, and because it worked for him/her, we should all try it! Wow, Great! Such logic! Well, then, since several people that take placebos in experiments swear their condition has improved, then we should all take placebos! Why not??? It worked for them. This 'reader' from Ossian, also does not want the negative reviews posted. I'm guessing freedom of speech has not been covered in GED class yet. Or maybe s/he is just one of the misguided souls who is trying to sell us Barefoot's garbage.
Rating: Summary: Barefoot Misquoted by Critics Review: Many of those who criticize Barefoot on this website demonstrate their inability to read carefully what his book actually says. One reviewer attempts to discredit Barefoot by saying "if your blood were that acidic you'd be dead", despite the fact that Barefoot clearly makes the same claim. (Interesting how Barefoot's detractors seem to have missed that section.) What Barefoot is actually speaking about is the pH level of other body fluids, such as saliva, whose pH levels can be affected by the body maintaining the blood pH level at normal. I thought the book made a lot of sense. Even though I have always been in good health I started using this product several months ago with no negative side effects. Instead, I have experienced several benefits such as greater mental alertness, improved memory and higher energy level. Plus I haven't had so much as a cold since following his regimen. When reading the various reviews of "Death By Diet" on this website take heed of one important fact: Many of those who praise Barefoot's research claim to have actually followed his coral calcium regimen, while none of those who disagree with him make the same claim. While everyone is entitled their own opinion, I tend to have more faith in those who speak from personal experience.
