Summary: After 8+ Months
Review: "I'm 37 and have been smoking for about 20 years, 20 a day. For the past year I've slowly been realising that I should stop but felt trapped, that I couldn't give up, I'd tried before and failed, each time becoming more convinced that I could not escape."

That was what I thought 9 months ago - then I read Easyway and have never touched tobacco since. I still go out socialising and drinking with people who smoke, I still have a life and job that is sometimes stressful but I have never even been even slightly tempted to light up. Everything the book said turned out to be true; I am a happy ex-smoker.

The NHS should give this book out for free, anyone who smokes knows that the TV ads with those poor people dying or health warnings or pictures of damaged lungs do not convince people to give up, they certainly didn't make me stop, I just ignored them or changed channel.

I decided not to write a review right away but to give it some time and see if it continued to work, if anything it has got easier as the months passed by. At the time I bought the book I read lots of Amazon.co.uk reviews and still didn't believe it could work like this for me. It's beautifully simple, no gum, no patches, no scare tactics, its not about why you should stop, more like why should you continue, all you have to do is read to the end*

When I decided to buy it I thought "it's worth a try", now I don't miss cigarettes, quite the opposite, I wish I had read this 10 years ago. I was highly sceptical but decided it wasn't much money to risk, now I think it's probably the best buy I'll ever make in my lifetime.

*One word of caution - although the book is not especially long I stopped reading partway only to pick it up again a couple of weeks later. At some point it seems I realised that I would stop smoking when I finished the book and the only option my subconscious mind had was to stop reading (you are supposed to keep smoking until you finish the book), happily I picked it up again, finished the book and am still convinced I will never smoke again.

Summary: Not sure how, or why it works but it does...
Review: I had been thinking about quitting smoking for some time and just happened to come across this book which seemed to get good reviews here and elsewhere. Most impressive was the claim that people read the book and simply threw away their cigarettes, not wanting to smoke anymore! I had to try it.
The book just makes sense. I believe that you have to WANT to quit to make it effective. I stretched out my reading of the book for a whole week waiting for the mythical "last chapter." The last chapter came, I thought, that's it? Kind of anticlimactic. Then I smoked one more cigarette, put it out and as of today have not smoked one in three days. This is a record for me, I have not quit for longer than 24 hours in over ten years, despite other efforts using the patch, etc. I simply don't want to smoke, because just one will start the whole cycle again. To do so would only be cheating myself. I know this time is for real.
As to others' claims of no withdrawal pangs, I doubt it. Easy? Painless? Maybe not, at least for me. I still want a cigarette occasionally, but I know I'll never smoke one again. Get the book, read it, it makes sense. Beyond the nicotine addiction, the rest is in your head! Break free.

Summary: Buy it!
Review: I knew four people who read the book and they all quit. Most impressive though was that they were not suffering over it -- they were happy and carefree! I was scared to death to even read the book and did not want to quit at all, but my doctor told me to. Well, now I know five people who have read the book and quit. The book does not scare you into stopping with health warnings. Instead, one by one, it removes all the fears you have about stopping. (I won't enjoy myself at a party... I'll gain weight...I'll be miserable forever...) Once you lose all those fears, it really is easy to stop. It's been over a year now and I know I will never smoke another cigarette. Thank you Allen Carr!

Summary: Don't read if you want to continue to enjoy smoking
Review: I was a smoker for 15 years. My brother gave me the book having just quit after reading it. I let it sit on the desk for 3 months because I didn't want to know. I finally read it and haven't smoked since. If you're honest with yourself, you can't/won't continue to smoke. The nice thing is that even though the withdrawl stinks -- you don't want to smoke to relieve it. And, the withdrawl pangs go away. I didn't buy the book from Amazon, but I'm here to find it so I can send the details to a friend who still smokes. (I gave my copy to a friend).

Summary: I didn't believe it either, but it works.
Review: I wouldn't have read it if it hadn't been recommended by a friend, but I'm glad I did. The book's a bit silly, and some of the arguments are dodgy, but that doesn't seem to matter. It works, and it's surprisingly easy (it takes a _little_ will power, but not much). I know a couple of people who've read it--one quit, the other didn't. But it's not much of an investment, so you might as well try it. One bit of advice. Some people are more than ready to quit before they've finished the book, and have no doubt they'll succeed. But if, like me, you finish the book and still feel a little worried, don't be discouraged, it still seems to work even if you're not _completely_ confident of success.

Summary: When are committed to quit, this book will make it happen
Review: My wife tried every technique including the LungUSA program (Freedom from Smoking), counselors, the gum, willpower, etc. I came across this book in the mall, she read it, and quit. And she did it decisively. Don't buy this for someone you want to quit -- reserve it for when they are committed and struggling and need something to help them. The psychology is subtle but highly effective. I even bought a copy to put in the public library. It begs the question -- why hasn't it become popular here already?

Summary: If you are a HEAVY smoker (like me) THIS WILL WORK
Review: This book hits home from the first chapter. It gets your attention with a bit of reality: you may have bought it at a store or it was given to you as a gift, etc. ... and you probably didn't pick it up to read for several months. In my case, I bought the book - and it was 1 1/2 yrs. before I decided to read it! The reason? ALL smokers have a FEAR of quitting!! It addresses this and many other psychological reasons we are addicted & why we've failed, etc.
I HIGHLY recommend this book - whether you are a "light" smoker or an extremely heavy one, like myself (can you say Chain-Smoker?). And also if you are like me and SICK of people saying - "Oh, you'll quit when you're ready. You're just not ready"
Anyway - buy it, for yourself or someone you know - you will not regret it!
Also - if you do not try for fear of failure - remember this: without trying - you have already failed! And just because you have failed once or several times - keep trying! You will make it! Good luck & best wishes to all who are in this horrible hell called: Smoking.

Summary: A Brilliant, Brilliant Book
Review: This book is utterly brilliant.

I smoked for 15 years and heard about this book from a friend. At the time this book was only available in England and Canada. I read the book and was immediately hooked. Carr's words are so powerful and persuasive. It is amazing that such a short book can transform someone's life from a dependency to cigarettes to a life free of smelly breath, coughs and potential lung cancer.

I persuaded my fiancé to read it (and he loved smoking and had no intention of quitting). After he finished reading it he stopped smoking too. We have both been non-smokers for 1.5 years. We very rarely even think about smoking.

I am so glad to see that this book is available in the States. I can now continue to tell smokers all about this book, but instead of lending them my book they can now buy it for themselves.
