Rating: Summary: Fabulous Recipes Review: Don is the master of the low fat recipe and he does it without compromising flavor or portions. Lean and Lovin' It is layed out in an easy to understand format. The opening section outlining what types of food to buy and what to throw out is worth the price of the book alone. Buy the book and eat til your hearts content.
Rating: Summary: Great book even for the Asian cook Review: Hello!I borrowed this book from the library and tried one or 2 recipes, it was so great, I decided to get it off Amazon in the end. Although some of the items are not available in Singapore e.g. butter buds is a little hard to find, there are ready substitutes. Generally, if you are from Asia, can go a little easier on the sugar and be more proactive on spices to fit asian tastebuds. Beyond that, most recipes are winners. So far those that are confirmed great (I have cooked them at least 4 times) are the turkey gumbo and the brownies. All the taste without the unneeded fat plus you don't get that odd yicky feeling when you eat sugar substitutes etc.
Rating: Summary: Great Tasting Recipes Review: I got your book and I love it. My husband is not use to eating alot of low-fat foods but he loves it also. The recipes are so easy to make and alot of people can't tell that it is low-fat. I wish he would make another book with even more recipes. Thanks for making the book we really enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Mauer's guide/cookbook makes sense! Review: I have never been way heavy ever (5'10, 195). However, a couple of weeks ago (8 to be precise) I was told that I needed to lower my cholestrol. At the time it had peaked at 297 and my doctor told that if the cholestrol did not go down. Well, then I needed to start taking cholestrol lowering medication. I knew right then, that I had to change my eating habbits. This book in question was awesome as it is filled with low fat (yet appetizing recipes that one would actually want to eat) recipes and became a good tool/guide in my persuit to lower my cholestrol. Thank you Mauer.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Recipes Review: Out of all the cookbooks i own - which is quite a few - this is by far the most favorite. The recipes are very easy to prepare and taste great. Since i've got the book couple of months ago, i've been using it almost exclusively to try as many recipes as i can, and they've all been phenomenal thus far.
Rating: Summary: The most abused book in my kitchen Review: When the Navy told my husband to shape up or ship out, we knew we had to do something about our diet. I pored over the local library selection of lowfat cookbooks and tried dozens of recipes. Most tasted like something between braised cardboard and sauteed rubber. Yum. Eventually I made it to the "L" section and stumbled across Lean and Lovin' It. Frankly, at this point I was pretty disheartened, (not to mention heart-burned from all that bad food), but I was determined that there must be one good lowfat cookbook out there. Well, I hit pay dirt with this one! The recipes in this one were not out of the ordinary eggplant and tofu creations that no one in this solar system actually eats. This guy had taken normal everyday foods that we human beings not only eat but LOVE and showed me how to take the fat out of them. You mean I DON'T have to change my diet to lose weight? I can just change the way I fix my food? What a revalation!!! I tried recipe after recipe in this book, and I was amazed at how good my food tasted in its lowfat form. More to the point, I was amazed at how my food still tasted like MY FOOD after removing that unwanted fat. Well, I kept cooking and trying those recipes and kept rechecking that book out from the library for so long, they finally told me I couldn't check it out anymore. I knew then it was time to get my own. I can't wait for it to arrive from Amazon because I already know this is going to be the most used and abused book in my kitchen. :-)
