Rating: Summary: Required reading for the health of your spirit Review: A powerful, emotionally driving book, "Why Forgive" provides a framework of forgiveness that not only defines why it is important to forgive, but also how not forgiving eats at us like a cancer until it kills our happiness and our very essence. With true life stories of amazing acts of forgiveness, the book shows how forgiveness is required before truly moving on to complete healing when you have been wronged. The extremely powerful stories show how forgiveness has allowed individuals to regain their lives after severe tragedy has entered their lives. Instead of taking the easy path and allowing anger and hate to destroy them, they make a choice that results in a deep peace. Pick up the book, learn to forgive, learn how it is necessary for true peace, choose the road less travelled and choose forgiveness. If there is a book that should be required reading for everyone, this is a contender for that book.

Rating: Summary: the continuing journey of forgiveness Review: Forgiveness is the key to real freedom. The path to forgiveness is not always easy. The renewal of the act of forgiving makes the path easier to travel. The road to forgiveness becomes smoothly paved as we forgive and keep on forgiving. Our journey gets easier with each trip down the original path, leading to the paved road of freedom and happiness. See chapter 14, Not a step but a Journey.
Rating: Summary: It's overwhelming! Review: I have my copy of "Why Forgive" and have shared it with many of my friends and the people that take care of Saira. I am still overwhelmed that the author felt our story compelling enough to share with the rest of the world. Forgiveness is a daily struggle, but the most rewarding feeling comes from getting through the struggle. This is a very powerful book. We are very proud to be a part of the message.
Rating: Summary: A quick read with a powerful message Review: I spend a lot of time at a local nursing home - visiting my loved one. I also sit and talk with other residents there who receive no visitors. One thing I have observed - many folks at the nursing home are still nursing and cherishing very old grudges. I urge them to let go - to forgive these ancient wrongs - however great it may be - so that they can have peace in their heart. Some of these folks have rehearsed their pitiable lamentations for so long, the wrongs seem almost etched on their heart. When I tell them they MUST forgive, they often repeat the story again. If I was Queen of the world for 10 minutes, I'd tell everyone - FORGIVE! However awful the injustice, the affront, or the ugly action done against you - forgive - for your own sake and well-being. This book "Why Forgive?" will help you see why forgiveness brings more than comfort - it brings healing, restoration and a deep unflappable peace that passes all human understanding. I recommend this book. The writing style is interesting, the stories compelling and profound and you will read the last page of this book wanting to hear more stories. And if you follow the wisdom contained therein, you may be numbered among the 80% of our senior citizens who never take up residence in a nursing home.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Examples Review: The great power of Arnold's book is in the real world examples of forgiveness he offers. Some of the examples have an "everyday" kind of quality to them while others are staggering in terms of the ability of people to somehow cut through their hurt, anguish and rage to come to the point of forgiveness. Arnold avoids the "Oprahzation" of forgiveness by reminding the reader that forgiveness takes both truth and grace into account He neither diminishes nor denies the hard realities with which people must live. Arnold devotes much space to the self-interested nature of forgiveness. We forgive because such an act works toward our own good. I would have liked to have seen him devote a bit more space to those instances in which people forgive because they see it as a way to display something of the character of God even when they themselves may never find peace through forgiveness. My only critique of the book is that author does not provide bibliographical references. The book is full of wonderful quotes and stories. I would like to have known the sources. Further, a recommended list of readings would have been helpful. However, having said all of that, this is the kind of book that makes you want to take off your shoes as you read...you recognize that you are on holy, holy ground.
Rating: Summary: Life-changing stories about most important issue of our time Review: The stories collected between the covers of "Why Forgive?" are an extremely crucial testament to the power of forgiveness. The people who speak in this book have a right to do so. They are family members of murder victims, or themselves the victims of violence, abuse, and other grave injustices. Our world seems to continually to change for the worse because, in general, it has not grasped the power that lies behind the stories in "Why Forgive?" This book is not meant to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling--to trivialize forgiveness, as is so often done these days. This book is meant to change your life. And it will.
Rating: Summary: Forgiveness, true forgiveness is a gift. Review: This book gives good examples of true forgiveness. I mean the kind of forgiveness that really heals minds and souls. Reading about how others with deep wounds can forgive will help readers to realize that this gift of peace and healing is available to each of us through prayer.
Rating: Summary: Simply beautiful Review: This book will banish any lingering doubt that forgiveness and reconciliation is the linchpin of good in this world. Filled with compelling personal accounts of those who truly have the right to ask us all to forgive, the book has the power to change the direction of your life for the better. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: Bitterness Stops Here! Review: Why Forgive? Because if you don't, you'll be consumed by your own bitterness. That's Arnold's thesis, in a nutshell. And from my own personal experience, I can say he's right. But it's tough -- very tough -- to go from understanding the need to forgive to actually doing it, especially when you've been hurt badly in the past; at least that's my experience. The many stories Arnold recounts -- true stories of people who've worked through their pain to find healing through forgiveness -- helped me to see that there's never an excuse not to forgive. Why Forgive? Read this book, and you'll understand that your quality of life depends on it.
