Summary: Basic Principles of Biblical Counseling
Review: Miller and Jackson have produced a very useable reference book for pastors. I have utilized this book as a text for a class on counseling for pastors that I teach. What has been particularly helpful is the bibliographic material at the end of each chapter. The historical over view provides an excellent perspective for understanding one's own presuppositions. The chapter topics cover some of the most common problems a pastor will encounter. No single book will make a pastor into a great counselor but the tools provided in this volume provide a basic framework to help those coming to the pastor for help.

Summary: A first-rate text offering practical help for pastors
Review: Miller and Jackson understand the practical needs of clergy in the parish setting and have written one of the most comprehensive books available in pastoral care. This is an excellent text for seminary students to invest in and use during their first decade of ministry. Recommended without reservation

Summary: Practical, but Pricey Psychology
Review: The book is good, but the price is not. As a student, and a ministry student at that, I am very poor, and that won't likely change.
To the author:
Know your audience well enough to adapt to these sorts of difficulties!
To Amazon:
Great work! Thanks to you I have enough money left over this semester to eat!

Summary: A Major Benefit
Review: The way the authors depict practical issues on psychology -such as reflective listening, formulation of a problem, assertiveness, referral, building a more resourceful community and so on- represents a major benefit for all of those engaged in the task of counseling.

Summary: Pastor or not...
Review: This book I consider as one of thee premium books in its genre. The authors alleviates the difficulties of everyday problems and more that pastors face when counseling. I'm no pastor, nevertheless I regard it as a handy help for any Christians in the field of counseling or rehabilitation treatment. Buy it! God Bless.

Summary: Timely instructions for young pastors
Review: This is really not a review but a request. I am the Dean of the Theology Faculty of Caribbean Union College, Box 175, Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. A friend shared a copy of Practical Psychology for Pastors with me and after browsing through the book, I find it to be a potentially excellent tool for the scores of ministers in training on our campus. Could you please send me a complementary copy? This may become our text for a long time to come if we could successfully enter into some negotiations. Thank you.

Sincerely

Fitzroy Maitland (Ed.D)
