Rating: Summary: A one of a Kind Horse Story Review: This book is truly one of a kind. Most horse books focus on how fast a horse can run or how high they can jump; this one focuses on how useful a horse can be.
This is the only children's book written about therapeutic horseback riding. The author did a fantastic job describing how a lesson at a therapy barn is run. The whole story is just incredibly well written. Taking an injured racehorse and turning it into a therapy horse would not be the best idea, but it does make for a beautiful story.
The illustration could be a bit better; the horses need some work so it looks like they can actually bend their knees. However, the illustrator did use brilliant colors and her watercolor like style makes every page pleasing to readers of all ages. All of the equipment from the basketball hoop to the mounting ramp is drawn completely accurately.
This story is so good for the self-esteem of young riders. The whole book focus on how the riders make the horse and the volunteers feel special and important. This is one of the few, if not only, children's book written about therapeutic riding.
Every therapeutic riding stable needs to have a copy of this book! Parents, riders, and volunteers would all love this book.
