Summary: A quick and highly inspirational read
Review: "...a life-threatening disease like cancer is a strange blessing that casts our life and purpose in sharp relief," writes Jordan. "Some cancer patients allow cancer to dominate and define their lives. They cut themselves off from their families and friends, throw in the towel emotionally, expect the worst, and fulfill that expectation. But there are many, many more who use their illness to find new meaning in their lives. And these are the patients who beat cancer against all odds or greatly exceed their prognosis or medical expectation." From his own experience, and from research that he has studied, Jordan has developed the strong belief that responses to the words "You have cancer" -- emotional, intellectual, and physical -- have a lot to do with survival and with quality of life. This is not to suggest that the immediate reaction will be "positive thinking." After surviving three different kinds of cancer, he challenges himself to never forget his own "raw fear," because he wants to hold onto the sense of purpose that cancer brought to him, "the ironic blessing." "I know many strong and intelligent people," he observes, "who are so devastated by their diagnosis of cancer that they are paralyzed with fear, fail to take charge of their lives and medical options, and do not take advantage of their greatest resources:

- The ability to be an active partner in the medical decisions that will determine whether they will live or die, and

- The will to live, which now has been demonstrated scientifically to have an impact on the course of disease generally and cancer specifically."

Summary: A Memoir that grabs you and holds you to last page!
Review: A good friend sent me this book even though she calls me a "right-wing Republican" and not a Carter fan even though I happen to live in Georgia and ironically have the same last name at the author. This book is bigger than all that. It is the human story of one man's life, rich stories about Vietnam, Washington and the civil rights movement and powerful, emotional and important stories about Mr. Jordon's three different bouts with cancer. But not just a cancer book but a book for anyone who likes a good read that grabs you and holds you and holds you to the very last page!

Summary: You Won't Be Able to Put This Book Down
Review: Being a southerner myself, and also having almost every single male member of my family die of cancer, this book really hit home for me. It is inspirational and full of hope. I think Mr. Jordan's legacy will not be his time in politics, but more importantly it will be his own life story and the war he and his family have waged against cancer. The book is uplifting and entertaining. The political history itself makes the book a fascinating read, but the real story is Mr. Jordan's successful battles with cancer. I am so glad that I had an opportunity to read this book, and I truly believe that it will inspire anyone who picks it up. I guarantee you won't be able to put it down- I couldn't!

Summary: A veritable shot in the arm!
Review: Hamilton Jordan tells of his inspiring victory over the deadly disease that affects us all in one way or another - cancer. He also tells the intriguing and compelling history of his brief tenure in the White House under Jimmy Carter as well as the inspiring story of his uncle, who fought racism in rural Georgia ahead of his time.

But above all, this book provided me with a shot in the arm while I was in the hospital for over a month with pneumonia. Feeling somewhat down, this book really lifted my spirits.
Jordan proves that a positive outlook and one deeply rooted in prayer and faith in God immensely helps those in dire medical circumstances. I am a walking monument and a true believer of the power of prayer and faith in God.

I highly recommend this book to everyone - whether you're sick or not. It is ineffably a book that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling after you put it down. A great gift to someone you love - including yourself.

Summary: No such thing as an uninteresting life
Review: I have several relatives with cancer, including my son who is a childhood leukemia surviver. I bought this book expecting to learn more about dealing with the diagnosis of the "Big C". I got that and much, much more.

This book is an inspiration for those touched by cancer, but also an inspiration to see how seemingly small decisions or details in life can a have huge impact. It also is an insider's view of what life in the Deep South was like in the mid-19th century.

Whether you read this book to better understand how to deal with cancer, how to face difficult circumstances in general, or how how a single person can make a huge difference in the lives of others, or just an interesting read you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Perfect Book For The Beach-Accessible, uplifting and moving
Review: I was a bit skeptical about this book because I expected it was just politics...what a surprise! The moving story of one man whose three battles with cancer have shaped his attitude and life in powerful and wonderful ways. Well written, funny at places, touching at others......I did not put it down and read it straight through. Made me feel good to read it and recommend it wihout reservation. It will touch your life.

Summary: No Such Thing As a Bad Day
Review: If the title of this work is not enough to draw you in, the inspiration found within the covers of this autobiography will capture you. From start to finish I was enthralled with Hamilton Jordan's life. He develops a picture from which you cannot turn away with descriptions of his family, perceptions and mistakes from his career, the resulting reflective thoughts when faced with death, and finally with his dynamic approach to health care. Hamilton Jordan shares his regrets, his perceptions and his experiences in a non-threatening unpretentious manner. You soon forget this man held one of the highest offices in the United States, next to the President. But the title shares the core of the message. I am a cancer survivor and this should be the handbook for Cancer Warriors. I have several friends who have gone through the process of being diagnosed with Cancer and battling this horrible disease. This is a book I have given to each of them. His story is one we can all relate to through our experiences or those of a family member while still being a life that many will never experience. He is a man to be admired and this is a book not to be missed.

Summary: just ok, dissapointing after reading reviews
Review: maybe i expected too much, but this book only has a good title.

I expected a book more like "tuesdays with morrie". which was: you get inspired about life & realize there really is no such thing as a bad day through the story being told.

in this book, hamilton sort of just tells you to believe "there is no such thing as a bad day" and then he explains logically why a good mental attitude is good for you.

a better title would be: "how i learned that positive mental attitude is helpful in my battle against cancer"

i hate to diss the book, it just was not a fun or exciting read for me.
