Rating: Summary: Spiritual Growth Review: I am writing this review, in the hopes that Iyanla herself may read this. Last year, my daughter started a book club, and chose this book. We began with eleven, and at the end it was only four faithful members, which was alright. When Iyanla came to the Convention Center, in Philadelphia we well fortunate to hear her speak,we enjoyed her emensely. Anyway, the first couple of month, we struggled with the consistency, understanding, and the meaning. Suddenly the light bulb came on,we became persistent, steadfast in our reading, meditation, and self evaluation. We were awakening to the changes God was making in our lives, inwardly, outwardly, and between eachother. The following months proved to be more spiritual, and we experienced God power in our lives. December was the most powerful of them all. At the last meeting, we all cried, cried, cried tears of joy and thanks for bringing us this far. And a thankful heart to Iyanla, for providing the tool we needed, to help get us through this past year, her book Until Today. We didn't realize it until today, that the person, who brought us together for the book club, was the person whom needed to bring closure to things in her life, which she was able to do. We all have deceided to start a journal for this year. Some of us are going to continue to read the daily devotions again. It certainly was a very spiritually growing process for all of us, we will be forever changed from this experience with eachother, we are closer now,we respect, admire, appreciate one another for the beautiful person that God made. Sincerely, Renee Scott
Rating: Summary: Everyday Meditation Review: I really enjoyed "Until Today." My first exposure to it was in a yoga class where the instructor would read it to us during final relaxation. Some of the daily meditations are a bit long and have LOTS of references to God which I personally don't have any problem with. Overall, a great gift along with some "plinky" music.
Rating: Summary: inspiring Review: I was first introduced to Iyanla Vanzant's book thru a friend of mine. She was reading "In the Meantime". When we would hang out she would read me excerpts from the book. One day surfing thru the web I came to amazon.com and decided to see what books were out by MS. Vanzant. I started to read the list of books and saw "Until today". I went to it and read the "look inside this book" and decided to buy it. When the book arrived I read the preface, it was terrific. It explained about what the book was about and how to use it in your daily life. This book is great. It has so many interesting daily readings, plus some exercises to do and think about. It helps me to be more open to my growth and spirituality. I now share with my friend some of the daily reading I find that relates to my life and my friends lives. It gives interesting information to think about and share with others. This is a very good book. It is broken into monthly topics and beautiful passages.
Rating: Summary: Until Today! I didn't know how much I needed this book! Review: Iyanla did it again! I don't even get out of bed in the morning without saying my daily affirmations and reading today's excerpt from Until Today!: Daily Dovotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind. I love this book, it help put into perspective a multitude of negative thinking and speaking and teaches us how to re-language ourselves so that we can manifest in our lives all the joy, abundance, happiness that we desire. Everything we need or want we already have within, we just need to tap into our inner abundance. Thanks to Iyanla, and her inspirational books, I have tapped into my inner light and let it shine for all to see.I would recommend this book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational, validating, & affirming! Review: This gem of a book is one of Vanzant's best works yet! The book is broken down into twelve sections that each deal with a spiritual principal. (Example: January deals with Life, July deals with Understanding, September with Trust, etc.) The readings for each day are truly inspirational, validating, and affirming for all of God's children! At the end of the reading is an affirmation or thought/Meditation that you can focus on throughout the day!! (I usually write about it in my own personal spiritual journal, once in the morning and once at night....to see how I fared!) If you are interested in growing as a person and a spiritual being, then this is the book for you! An excellent read that I have and will continue to recommend.
Rating: Summary: Speaks Directly To You Review: Vanzant's latest book is in a day-to-day devotional format. Having devoured everything else she has written, I didn't hesitate to pick this up. Well, get ready to be smacked hard upside your head every single day. The author seems to have the view of a seer, and every single piece is directly related to what's happening in life at exactly that moment. Each devotion ends with the phrase, "Until today..." and a statement like "you may have been feeling as if you were about to break down. Just for today, call forth the strength, courage, wisdom, insight, power and love of the spirit of life. Ask that you be guided through the next minute, hour or day to a place of peace." (January 31) Each month has a focus - life, love, awareness, acknowledgment, acceptance forgiveness, etc. Each day's reading focuses on internal personal and spiritual growth, self-acceptance, change and producing peace in your life. It is an excellent book for those who have thrown out all the other daily devotional books including those for "Women Who Do Too Much." I expect to wear the pages of this book out over the next years.
