Rating: Summary: The Difinitive Anxiety Book Review: Between all the books and self-help programs this book has proven to be the best method of reducing and eliminating my panic. I have ordered this book 4 times because I keep wearing out my copies or I find someone who needs it more than I do. If you suffer from agoraphobia, panic, or any form of anxiety, READ THIS BOOK! And more than once. If you study what Claire Weekes teaches, you will get better. GOOD LUCK!
Rating: Summary: A gem Review: I simply wish more sufferers of depressive illness knew about this book. It gives techniques for dealing with panic attacks and that debilitating fear of fear experience. These techniques actually work. Self help books can be waffly, wordy, preachy and ultimately useless this one is practical and simply brilliant. Get your life back. My complements to the Author.
Rating: Summary: The BEST anxiety book - hands down. Review: I suffer from anxiety disorder and panic attacks. I have been through episodes on and off for 12 years. Two years ago I suffered them extreme enough to render me unable to drive or leave the house. I went to a support group and Claire Weekes books were overwhelmingly recommended by other sufferers. I purchased both of her books and read them cover to cover in the same day. FINALLY! Somebody who has a CLUE what it's all about. I have read dozens of newer books on anxiety but none of them even come close to Dr. Weekes work. Yes, the terminology is "older" and she doesn't attempt to diagnose you. She simply tells you EXACTLY what you are feeling and EXACTLY what to do about it. With common sense, plain language and a sincerity that is impossible to miss. With the help of her books, and yes some medication I managed to recover completely, function normally and was back out and around more fearless than I'd ever been in my life. Even after recovery, I set myself a goal for the first two months. Read 20 minutes of Dr. Weekes each day, so I don't forget how to handle fear... "just in case". I became so well, I eventually loaned my books to someone else in need.
Rating: Summary: Everything you need to know Review: This book contains all you need to know to help yourself recover from panic and anxiety attacks - and there is so much one can do for one self - this book clearly explains what and how. I recommend this book and would also like to recommend homeopathy as a means to a cure (to be clear, this book is not related to homeopathy).
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Timeless! If u r nervous, get this! :-) Review: This is an excellent and (unlike some inaccurate 'professional' reviews) NOT dated. Yes, the lingo has changed from the time the book was written until today, but I find the explanations, techniques, and advice to be very timeless. More importantly, Dr. Weekes understands the subject of nervous suffering (anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic attacks, and agorophobia, etc. etc., fill in the blank) VERY well. I don't think she could have written with such insight without experiencing these things, although I don't know that for sure. But she understands, and she can help you start to understand. What I like about the approach is that after years and years of suffering with social anxiety, I know her methods are the only way to go. In a nutshell, she basically explains how to be mindful and be with (go toward) the worst fears, to their ends, rather than resist and tense against them. Tensing and resisting increases the problem. This is the only hope, in my opinion, and scary and difficult as it sounds, we each can do it. She explains what happens biologically/physiologically, and how things spiral from simple extra-sensitivity to full-blown fear, unreality, stress, and despair. These methods can teach you how to stop the negative feedback loop and connect again with yourself and reality. You are not going mad. You are not inherently defected. But the only way out is through. You can do it. I hope this book helps you as much as it is helping me. Peace.
