Rating: Summary: Scientifically UNSOUND and written by Scam Artists... Review: As a medical student, my metabolism class just covered this diet as an example of an unhealthy "Fad Diet" that makes claims that aren't true. Before we talk about the improper claims, however, I'd like to point out how the authors are scam artists. They purport to have degrees from the "American College of Health Sciences," a prestigious-sounding university. Harvey even has a DOCTORATE from there. However, they could never be hired in any hospital or be licensed to practice in any health-care field anywhere in the United States because the "American College of Health Sciences" is an UNACCREDITED CORRESPONDANCE COURSE "college". Would you be treated by a surgeon or a family physician who learned his trade in one year through the mail? Of COURSE not! So why would you trust someone with your health who "learned" the same way. Now on to the diet...
You might ask why so many people seem to lose weight on this diet. Well, only some people do and those that do, end up that way because all in all, it DOES reduce Caloric intake. The only way to ACTUALLY lose weight is to reduce Caloric intake beyond daily needs (so that your body burns fat for those extra calories), but you don't have to do that by unhealthily cutting out foods with important nutrients. You don't need to pay false-scientist scam artists your hard-earned money to be healthy. Simply exercise 60 minutes a day, read food labels to count calories (the only diet SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN to work and KEEP WEIGHT OFF), and follow the food pyramid. If you want to try something a little newer, follow the Mediterranian Diet food pyramid (you can Google it) which preaches moderation of ALL food types.
I've also been reading about the speed of the weight loss that people are getting. To get that kind of weight loss (one pound a day, 10 pounds a week, whatever), is INCREDIBLY unhealthy. Not only does it put HUGE amounts of stress on your body, but its also only possible by breaking down LEAN mass (muscle mass)as well as fat. That's definitely not good for you! One Amazon reviewer even said that this occurred when he was on this diet. There seems to be plenty of people that come on here saying this diet was great for them. However, there are many more people that have ruined their health this way.
Finally, in response to the author's claims that food combinations can be unhealthy, it is all made-up lies and trickery. They use false logic to make their diet and claims sound good when in reality, EVERY study done on this diet has proven their claims false. There is something to be said about substances in some foods slowing the absorption of sugar and such (fat, for example), but the authors take that idea way too far, even claiming that eggs rot(!) in the body. Doesn't that sound a little crazy?
You may ask that if all this is true, why doesn't the FCC or FDA or whoever stop them from publishing? We have First Ammendment rights in this country and as long as the authors are not producing medications that make these claims, there is nothing that they can legally do. Heck, a person can write a book that says eating glass is a great diet, and the gov't can't and won't stop them.
Please, if you think I'm just being ridiculous or that I don't know what I'm talking about, do a little research on your own. Ask a doctor or dietician. Or go to these websites by ACTUAL physicians (from accredited Medical Schools) and scientists and see what they say about this diet:

Rating: Summary: Fit for Life Review: Fit for Life has enlightened me to health problems I endured during my teenage years. The main problem being MILK. Chronic skin problems, sinus problems and alergies, I believe were all attributable to milk. I have stopped drinking milk and have drastically reduced the intake of milk for my family. In the long term I believe this will have enormous health benefits for them all. The logical and clearly described myths by which the remainder of the Western world lives in regard to food, as described in Fit for Life has the biggest impact of all the information in the book. The analogy I liken the presentation of this information to is the idiocy with which Mankind is currently managing pollution. The Car is the number one polluter but like Milk and red Meat the problem is too difficult to deal, with so we continue believing all is in order as we head down the well walked path to the ruination of the Western Society. The simpliest solution is always the best. The Diamonds propose the simpliest solution that has no risk and only upside. I would like to personnally thank the Diamonds for there work and I believe the study of Natural Hygene should be actively promoted by all Medical schools and the stupidity that is taught today to doctors about the 4 basic food types irradicated from their learning.
Rating: Summary: An absolute must read Review: I bought this book without knowing anything about it and I grew to love it. It is the MOST useful book I have ever bought. I'm losing weight and soon I'll look my best. My nails are not chipping anymore and are growing stronger. My hair is getting thicker. My acne is almost gone. I forgot the pains I had with every period. I feel great and I am happier than ever. My husband loves these chages in me and started to eat according to the proper food combining principle. My parents live in another country and do not speak English. Guess what. I'm translating this book for them. This should tell you something.
Rating: Summary: Read this before you decide... Review: I got halfway through "Fit Fot Life" and was very impressed... I overlooked the things that didn't sound right, because I wanted to believe it all. While it may have some value, before you invest too much energy in it make sure you read the reviews by doctors at the "health care reality check" website. hcrc.org. They start "This foolish diet book, which sold over one million copies, shows how a weight loss program founded on unscientific concepts can be a huge commercial success." Amazon will be doing it's customers a great dis-service if it does not publish this as it took me a great deal of time to find a credible, qualified reference that reviewed the book properly.
Rating: Summary: Useful introduction to hygienic eating principles Review: I read the first "Fit for Life" book when it first came out and benefited from it. I would recommend the book. But I found it completely impossible to stick with the program for more than a few months. My wife goes back to it more than I do, and she looks great...and weighs a lot less than me. So for some people, it works, for others it doesn't. I don't regret trying it out, and do go back to using the principles of diet when I am feeling particularly strong willed or so sick I have no choice! The one big disagreement I have with it is that I do not think vitamin supplements are always bad for you, as they assert. I think taking too many may have the negative effect they suggest, but that more often than not they are helpful rather than harmful. Again, I don't regret taking a few months to see how I felt on their program, though.

Rating: Summary: Afterwards you'll know how to get and stay healthy, for real Review: I'd like to start by saying that I think everyone should read Fit for Life first and then Fit for Life 2 - Living Health. This second books summarizes well the facts illustrated in the first book, but you will get a much better picture if you start with the first book. Also, it will probably be hard for most people to make a lot of changes in their lifestyle together, while it will definitely be easier to somewhat change your eating habits first and then expand your healthy habits adopting some (or all) of the suggestions you'll find in this 2nd book. This book is not only about losing weight, as a thin person is not necessarily healthy. It's not just about looking good, it's about feeling good and treating your body how it deserves and then seeing the results on the outside, as well. This book gives a very good understanding of how everybody, no matter their age, can be healthy and feel great and have a better life, and it explains it all very simply, so everyone can read it and understand it. I also found that the recipes in this book are much better than the ones in the first book. A few days ago I made "ice cream" using frozen mango, bananas and strawberries and my whole family loved it! Only afterwards I told my husband that there was no milk nor any sugar added, and he could not believe it! My husband is also starting to get over the common view that "healthy things don't taste good", and believe me, I am a picky cook. I am Italian, I love cooking and I was always convinced that a meal should leave one satisfied. And the book really gives you the awarness you need that WE ALL NEED to do something to keep healthy, because IT'S WORTH IT! Now I am eating well (that means I am eating healthy but I am also satisfied about my meals), I have enough energy to take care of my house, my 2 years old daughter and my numerous hobbies, and exercise, I am feeling better than I had in the long time and I am losing weight! What can one ask for more?
Rating: Summary: A great HEALTH book, not a diet book Review: If you want to know the TRUTH about health, food, nutrition, and the food giants, read this book. I was born with poor health and have suffered with it all of my 42 years of life. Or I should say, until I started living by the basic principles of "Living Health" several months ago. I have tried diets, doctors, and just about everything else one can imagine, and nothing did anything, but make things worse. The principles of "Living Health" in combination with another great book, "Eat Right 4 Your Type", have changed my life. After experimenting a little with the two books, I have lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks, my eyesight is clearing up, my joints feel 10 times better, my acne is 90% gone, and I feel almost as strong as I did when I was 18! I will add that I eat a small amount of meat (fish, chicken, and liver), lots of fresh, including raw, veggies (especially Kale, Broccoli,Celery, and lettace), and fruit for breakfast. These changes weren't easy for a "Southerner", but I feel great, and finally have good health due mostly to this wonderful book. Thank you to the Diamonds.
Rating: Summary: This book tells the truth Review: The Diamonds wrote this book in the 80's (also known as Living Health) and it is has stood the test of time. It is not only just as important a piece of literature now as it was then, but I believe it will also be in 100 years time. The fact that a diet book has lasted this long is a great testimony, as after all, the truth does not obey time and will always win through in the end (however much it is critised by others).
I purchased this book after reading their first book, Fit for Life. I can recommend these Fit for Life books for anyone who is seeking more energy, cure from illness, lower weight, improved health and also, spiritual awareness.
Don't worry the book is religion free. However a side effect of following the principles is that after several months you should start to experience positive spiritual insights and foresights.
This awareness has also been experienced by friends of mine who have followed the principles plus Harvey Diamond (he writes about it briefly in his book Fit for Life A New Beginning), James Redfield (Celestine Prophecy), Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist) and Mahandas Karamchand Gandhi (The Story of My Experiments with Truth).
Special note 1: Keep away at all costs from Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil or Fat (it takes 3 days to pass through my system and absolutely saps me of energy in the process - it is a hidden killer from the unscrupulous food industry and can do as much harm as heroin).
Special note 2: Keep away from mobile phones unless used with a Bluetooth headset (when I was on the phone for over an hour a day the radiation from my mobile phone sapped me of energy, sometimes for days until I added the Bluetooth).
Special note 3: If you are a smoker, I would strongly recommend Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. It will set you free.
Good luck and God bless.
