Summary: A must have book for pre-op or post-op hysterectomy patients
Review: "Through the Land of Hyster: The Hyster Sisters Guide" is a wonderful book that you will want to read from cover to cover, but will also keep as a handy reference book. Because it contains information gathered from ladies who have had hysterectomy surgery, it contains answers to questions most women have before and after hysterectomy, based on their own experiences. Most helpful is the information about Hormone Replacement Therapy. If I had had this book before my surgery, I could have relieved much needless worry. It has been five months since my surgery, and I find myself referring to this book for answers even now. This book should be in the suitcase of every woman headed to the hospital for a hysterectomy.

Summary: LOVED THIS BOOK!
Review: I just wanted to say Thank You Kathy for such a wonderful book! I got mines yesterday and loved the tips, the petals of wisdom and the bedtime stories I wish I had it before I had my surgery but it's never to late to have this book. It's awesome and has some wonderful tips to help us along the way :) It should be given to every woman who will have a hysterectomy Dr's office.

Thanks for a awesome book and the website is AMAZING and encouraging too. http://hystersisters.com

That's where I got ALOT of emotional support from. You will NOT go wrong with this book or the website

Summary: Greatly Disappointed
Review: I purchased this book in hopes of gaining some helpful insight into my recent hysterectomy, but am now greatly disappointment at having spent the money buying it and the time reading it. I have a healthy sense of humor, and did not find this book the least bit funny. I found the "fairy tales" to be rather corny. I also find referring to someone who has had a hysterectomy as a "punctured princess" to be completely ridiculous and juvenile.
The author states on page 30 that "... the ovaries' production of estrogen is thought to be the cause of this [endometriosis] disease." Who thinks this? The author? I had endometriosis for 18 years and do not know one doctor or medical resource that would corroborate that statement. Therefore, I cannot help but question other medical statements made in this book. I suppose that's why they have the disclaimer.
This book is "Published by Hyster Sisters 2001." The author must have financed the publishing of this book herself, which would explain the high price for a 153-page poorly printed paperback.
I found some helpful information in this book, but not very much.

Summary: Funny and informative!
Review: Loved this book, read through it in about 3 hours. It's filled with tons in information on things you might not ask, and things you need to ask your doctor. Get the package deal with the journal, because you will need it for the all helpful information you are getting out of this little book!

Summary: Great little book.
Review: My sister gave me this book when she found out I would be having a hysterectomy. I found most of the books written about hysterectomy are too technical. Through the Land of Hyster is written in language that is easy to understand, and includes information from women who have actually had a hysterectomy.

The Bedtime Stories are cute, but they are also very informative. Each story has a message, whether it be about hormones, insomnia mood swings, etc.

If you're looking for a medical book, this isn't for you. But if you want answers to questions about your the surgery, your recovery, or hormone therapy from women who have actually been there, done that, then this is the book for you.

I plan on buying a book for my doctor's office. I'm sure his other patients will enjoy reading it.

Summary: Childish
Review: The book does not answer questions women need for their hysterectomies. It is not a practical health guide

Summary: Funny and informative!
Review: This book is full of interesting stories and useful information for anyone going thru a hysterectomy! I bought it after spending many hours at the website reading posts from women like me who were scared and trying to gain some control and insight into the surgery that threatened to change their lives forever. I can't tell you how much that has meant to me. This book is the website condensed in paperback, it travels easier than a PC and you don't have to plug it in! It will make you laugh and cry and say "hey!, thats ME!" The lists for what to take to the castle (hospital) with you, and list of do's and dont's when you return home (as a punctured princess) are great. Best of all are the stories of real women telling about their experiences traveling thru the land of hyster. God Bless the HysterSisters!

Summary: I loved it!!!
Review: This book made me laugh and almost cry. It provides you with answers to common questions (answers from a few people, not just one).

As a 34-year old headed to hyster-land (total with one, possibly both ovaries removed)in five days, I had many questions. This (and many other books) has allowed me to educate myself on prep, at home prep (for after surgery), recovery, HRT (if needed), etc. This book allowed to me laugh at a time when I'm not feeling that humorous. An excellent, light-hearted, yet serious read!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Information and sisterly emotional support.
Review: This book seems to be addressed to one's inner child, and was comforting when surgery was approaching and I was feeling nervous. When I first started researching hysterectomy surgery and alternative treatments, I wanted straight-forward facts and statistics. At that time, this book did not appeal to me. Later, as surgery approached, reading this book was like getting a gentle hug. This should not be the only book you read when deciding on a hysterectomy, and when choosing what method of hysterectomy.
