Rating: Summary: To much chearleading and to little information Review: After having read Norman Walker's series of books on raw foods and juices, I was looking for additional information. I was disappointed. While I share the author's enthusiasm for a raw food diet, I learned little from what he published. If this is your first book on raw food then your experience may be different. If you are looking for detailed scientific information and facts then you may want to look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Review: Amazon doesn't yet have the 3rd edition of this book for sale, but when they do, this review will be legit. The book has been expanded a little and changed around a little bit in this new edition. It hasn't been expanded with any really valuable information though. The newest chapter is all about the supplement line that Nature's First Law carries!!! An entire chapter in a book for marketing purposes. That's our hard earned money paying for his advertisements. With that said, the content of this book has been updated and improved upon. In the 1st Raw Power book, Arlin suggested that eating sweet fruit would make you skinny. He's changed his stance on that to say that eating sweet fruit several times per day will make you skinny. The latter is the truth. Your metabolism will fly out of whack if you have several sweet fruit meals per day. That was an excellent correction. Also, some of the new recipes are very good, and very practical. They aren't just overly fatty recipes for the most part. They have some fruit ones, and some pretty interesting mixtures that I intend on trying right away. Arlin speaks a lot of truth in the fact that when he says you can't gain any muscle if you're 98% raw. You need to be 100% or else your body will drain water out of your system to break down the 2% of cooked food that you eat. It sounds radical, but it's totally accurate. I love this book (advertisements aside), and would suggest it to anyone...

Rating: Summary: Some good, mostly bad... Review: Anger is the one word I can think to describe me when I got about halfway through this book. I was sceptical from the first page when he spouted "There is more diesease, sickness and misery now than ever before in the human history". Now I always find it funny that a white male can say this kind of thing with a straight face, but if you ask a woman or a visible minorty if they'd prefer to live now, or back in the 50's I'm sure we know what 9 out of 10 would choose. So that licks the misery part, as for the other two, I guess we just have to check infant mortality rates to see that the world in general is healthier now than it was 100 years ago. Brash I know, but this is just an example of the kind of baseless "facts" littered throughout this book (and many other Raw Food books as well). Of course none of these facts have a references (unless the reference is to one of Arlin's own books), they always refer to "a study" that was done. Now I was a bit peturbed about contridictions he makes regarding his own diet, but others' have mentioned this so I will let you read those reviews. But what angred me the most was page 97, The Ultimate Raw Bodybuilding Sample Menu. So let me get this straight, Mr. Raw fooder diet is half made up of suppliments that you can only buy from HIS store! I put it down and stopped reading right there. If you are committed to a Raw Food diet, I say good for you. I am about 90% and feel great, but I stay steer clear of this garbage. The reason I gave this book 2 stars is because my girlfriend has found some useful reciepes inside.
Rating: Summary: Raw Power! is the best book I've read on the subject. Review: As a former bodybuilder, olympic weight-lifter, and a present 100% raw-foodist, I think your book "Raw Power!" is the best I've ever read on the subject -- it's great -- keep it up!
Rating: Summary: Raw Power! Review: Hi Stephen! I have started reading your book, so far I want to say thank you for hitting me in the gut, so to speak! One point that really got me was where you say don't let the peer group bring you down. I thought about a certain person who has that affect on me, and I just really realized how we shift our resolutions sometimes to accommodate the atmosphere our peers provide. I like to think that I think for myself (got that?!!) but it is true that I act automatically sometimes without realizing it, in all areas, not just the raw thing. Dang-it, I forgot the other point I wanted to touch...maybe it was about the concept of "Paradise Health". That's a great concept, oh...here it is!!!! Yay!!! I loved the point that everyone is out there trying to get an "up", a cheap thrill, an artificial stimulation. No one is even aware that being raw provides a high greater than any of the temporary, harmful highs. It's like nature did not forget about us, just the opposite. We forgot about nature. Lastly, I also agree that sex can wear a person out. Not just your point about male ejaculation draining a guy (bear with me here, ya know, pretend to act serious and stuff)...but on a mental and emotional level also. Lately, meditating daily has cleared my head even more, and I see how much of our precious focus and energy can easily become diverted on the opposite sex. Balance and focus are key, spirit is key, being rooted is key. Raw food is key. Oh Stephen, I am just high-fiving the Universe, ya know, and it beats any drug.
Rating: Summary: Steve is Rawesome Review: Hi! I think Steve's book provides us a powerful message and reminds us that we are all powerful if we are willing to make powerful choices. Raw food is incredible. Building a body with Raw foods only makes sense. Thanks Steve for putting the book in a simple easy to understand format. Steve is the real deal. Big George
Rating: Summary: Waste of money Review: I agree with the raw food message, but there is little in the way of practical advice in this book. Anyone interested in raw foods and bodybuilding would be much better off reading Brian Clement's Living Foods book along with other books about bodybuilding. The author includes pictures of himself doing the recommended exercises, but he looks really soft. It made me question the suggested diet (large amounts of avocados and coconuts) as well as the exercises. Not inspiring at all!
Rating: Summary: Working on becoming 100% raw Review: I am reading Raw Power! for the second time and am thouroughly enjoying it. Working on becoming 100% raw, however; as Stephen mentions in the book, it takes some effort. He's a great writer! Keep up the good work! I sure hope he will write another book soon!
Rating: Summary: I love the fruit arm on the cover but... Review: I don't love the inside of this book as much. I read this book a long time ago and I agree with positive thinking and eating raw foods in order to help build healthy muscles and gain more stamina. But, this book didn't offer me any new information or really inspire me to build more strength or more muscle. It is an easy read, but there are better raw food books and much better body-building books out there.
