Rating: Summary: Enlightening Review: Dear Master Bond:I purchased a copy of your book "The First 16 Secrets of Chi" and congratulate you on this accomplishment. I am giving some of your books to friends as good reading and helps them understand more than just the movements. I often think of the group on Mondays when I do my Tai Chi prior to my water aerobic class. I find relaxation and stretching gets me relaxed for the other activities. I find that the Chi breathing that you teach, I use when walking and am aware of it and use most of the time. Thank you for the enlightenment of your method and philosophy of Tai Chi. Rating: Summary: The 16 Secrets of Chi , a personal account Review: Having studied with Master Bond for a number of years, I can attest to the effectiveness of the exercises that are contained in his book. The movements are simple and easy to do and that in itself may seem deceptive, but they are exercises that stimulate your entire body. Chi is a very subtle type of energy that requires dedication and a lot of effort to develope. The key to that development is consistency. The beauty of Master Bond's book is that it is easy to follow and basically easy to do. The hard part lies within each indiviual. That is, the motivation to do these exercises on a daily basis. After having done the movements for a period of time one will understand that Master Bond has handed you the keys to the door that will unlock the world of chi.
Rating: Summary: Review of "The First 16 Secrets of Chi" Review: I was introduced to Master Bond's Chi Kung exercises while walking around Honolulu's Kapiolani Park in the autumn of 2001. I was attracted to the sign that said that said that the breathing power therapy would be a benefit to those that suffer many ailments including asthma. My wife and I joined the exercise class on that Sunday morning. As an asthma patient for many years, I was always looking for help with my breathing problems. Now we attend the classes regularly when visiting in Hawaii and do Chi Kung on our own when we return to the mainland. Fortunately, Master Bond published a book entitled the FIRST 16 SECRETS OF CHI that we acquired shortly after publication in 2002. This book has been a big help to us while we are away from the organized exercise class. We are able to refer to the exercise section, to ensure that we are properly carrying out each exercise for maximum benefit. The book also helps us to understand the purpose of the exercises which were developed centuries ago and gives suggestions for meditation. There also is an excellent chapter about eating the proper foods, emphasizing the healing energy of a good diet. I find that doing the exercises each morning gives me a great start for the new day, both in body and spirit. And much to my Pulmonary Doctor's surprise I have reduced both the frequency and the amount of medication that I take for Asthma. I recommend the book for anyone who would like to feel better each and every day.
Rating: Summary: Invaluable wealth of information Review: "The First 16 Secrets of Chi-Feng Shui for the Human Body" by Luk Chun Bond, Chi Kung Master has such an invaluable wealth of information which has opened up a new world for me. In attending Master Bond's classes since April 2002, I have referred to this book time and time again not only for the well illustrated exercises but for information on the health problems that I have and the exercises that I need to do. The Green Diet for Chi chapter is one that should be read by everyone, young and old as is quoted in the Chinese proverb in the chapter that "Trouble and problems come out of our mouths. Sickness starts with what we put into our mouths:" In this day of fast foods and processed foods, the general public needs to be educated as obesity and diabetes are on the rise, especially in Hawaii. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in as we value health above everything else, especially since we're in our 70's.
Rating: Summary: Recommended Review: I do recommend this book, The First 16 Secrets of Chi, to anyone. This book shows us the 16 chi kung exercises and a diet chapter. I practice the exercises everyday and have improved my health. Thank you Master Bond.
Rating: Summary: Nature's secret revealed Review: The big secret is that there is no secret at all. We were all born endowed with the power to utilize the life forces (CHI) of the universe. Unfortunately, our western upbringing has not taught us how to tap this power -- how to help ourselves. By contrast, Chinese tradition -- thousands of years in the making -- teaches us moderns that developing the CHI in yourself and maintaining a wholistic, balanced life mitigates the ravages of daily living. 16 simple exercises lead us in that direction. Master Bond is the real thing, and if one faithfully follows these chi kung (Chi development) movements, it will lead to better health, energy, and well-being. His diet section is not to be ignored. This valuable summary of how to eat is probably the best overall dietary plan around. There are no calorie, carbohydrate, fat, or cholestoral counts to manage; special food packages or supplements to buy; gadgets to fool with; nor costly programs to enter. It is just a natural, sensible approach to eating to achieve balance. And balance is the foundation for allowing your body to heal itself and to fight off illness. Even the modern west recognizes diet and exercise as the pillars of health and longevity. This univeral truth is expressed in this book. Having paricipated in Chi (Ki- Japanese) arts for several years, I am of the opinion that Master Bond unfolds genuine ancient traditions of the east in this very nice, simple, readable book, easily adaptable to westerners of all ages and all walks of life.
Rating: Summary: Bonding with Luk Chun Bond Review: The First 16 Secrets of Chi is deceptively simple. If you do like I did - take the book off the shelf and look at the pictures in order to see if you want it - you may be fooling yourself. There is a LOT more to this. In the biographical first section you will see that Mr. Bond is a better-than-the-movies master. He has a mission which is clearly stated, and is being carried out to this day. I will be seeing him in person in a couple of months to attend one of the classes as mentioned in the book. I have already started on the exercises that I chose to start with - you will chose your own order for these. It definitely beats medicine & doctors.
