Rating: Summary: This Book Is For All Kids, But Especially My Sister. Review: After an 11 year old girl, who attended my son's school, died from leukemia, we sent a copy of this book to the school and purchased one for ourselves. The principal of the school indicated that this book was consistent with the material and teachings they had received in grief counseling. On occasion, my 7 year old son asks questions pertaining to death. Whether they are of concern or curiousity, reading this book brings us such laughter and joy, but most of all insight into the beautiful mystery of life after death. We both feel terriffic when the book ends and he usually wants to read it again.
Rating: Summary: Child and Adult Enjoyment Review: Children ask many questions about death and this book explores some of the common ones that children are interested in knowing. Hard to get through without bringing a tear to your eye. Illistrations are wonderful and eye catching to a child's imagination.
Rating: Summary: Deep and Wonderful Review: I chuckled, I cried and I wondered, how can such a small boy make such profound statements and reach such interesting conclusions. The graphics truly help illustrate the thoughts. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those with children. It takes a special kind of mother to be able to share this experience with the world!
Rating: Summary: Rare and Honest Review: I fell back into childhood when I read this book, remembering the death of my grandparents. Even now I still wonder some of Jack's same questions, but as an adult I have somehow lost permission to ask them out loud. Thanks to the innocence of this child, Jack does the asking for me. I found Libby Died to be honest and sincere. Coupled with the wisdom of Godly people, this book is a wonderful tool for healing.
Rating: Summary: Libby's wings Review: I knew by the title that this book had something powerful to say, and it didn't disappoint. The first thing you see when you open it is a photograph of Libby... and a picture of a caterpillar that will soon have wings, as Libby's brother, the author, imagines Libby does. In typical kid fashion, brother Jack wonders about what it's like to be dead. He poses sweet questions, funny questions.... Jack lets us know there is plenty of life left in us after we die. This is a book I'll read over and over again... and will give to elementary counselors and teachers. This book is a great comfort to those who have lost someone and those who wonder about death.
Rating: Summary: Out of the Mouths of Babes Review: It is such a gift when we have the opportunity to see life through the eyes of a child. This book gives us that gift. Such simple words with such powerful images.... Thank you Jack, for sharing yourself with all of us.
Rating: Summary: Poignant, and so very important Review: Jack and Annette Simon have published an important book-- one that will open up vital dialogue between children and adults on an often avoided topic. Jack's words, full of honesty and insight, provoke as many smiles as tears, and the delightful illustrations are no less powerful for their whisical style. Hats off to Annette for allowing Jack's comments and questions to stand on their own. By not trying to provide pat answers to the mysteries of life and death, she validates the complex feelings of grief with which all of us-- children and adults-- wrestle. Keep this book on your shelf; we are all going to need it sometime in life.
Rating: Summary: Utterly charming Review: Libby lives through Jack's innocence and faith in the future. I was utterly charmed. And it's not one bit maudlin. My hat's off to you, Jack, and to your mom for bringing your feelings so vividly to life. Thank you both.
Rating: Summary: Libby Deid Review: That book was so sweet. It was amazing that someone so as young as Jack could have thought up such great, sad and funny questions about heaven and Libby. He must have a great imagination to think up such touching questions. Hes very good at similes in the book. It's cute that he compared dieing to being a jeanie in a bottle. I think the book was excellent. It was so touching I was crying with in 4 pages trough the book.
Rating: Summary: From a childs perspective Review: The death of a loved one is difficult to grasp. People often have questions because they can't understand why...now imagine if you are a child. This book looks at the death of a loved one purely through the eyes of a child. In the unfortunate event of death, this book not only helps children understand, but I believe it helps adults cope. If only adults could be as honest and uncensored with their emotions as a child.
