Rating: Summary: Excellent overview Review: I have written a book on hormones myself, and I was looking for books about normal and abnormal puberty and bought this one. I have spent thousands of dollars on getting reference books in order to write my next book. I was really thrilled with this one and read it almost at one sitting. It is very unusual for a book of this type to be so readable. The fact that the other reviewer was aged 14 and suggested 9-11 year olds read it emphasizes this point. I would say the publishers undervalued the import of this book since it was not a top seller (maybe it was some time back). But many parents would benefit from reading it. It was the very book I needed as I want to write on the abnormalities of the prepubertal years and how they influence later hormonal problems. It answered many questions I had and dealt with a wide array of issues. It's a book all doctors should read though written for lay people. As a hormonal health consultant of 20 years' experience, I am often asked questions about the childhood development of patients' offspring. This will be a great resource for me in this respect. For instance, only three weeks ago I received a letter from a mother of a 35 year old woman whose pediatrician told the mother that her development was abnormal because her pubic hair came before breast development. This book answers that type of question--it's not usual, but it happens, and it's quite normal. I highly recommend this book. And I wish the author would update it, because the discovery of the hormone leptin in 1994 has caused a great deal of research to be done recently in the area of weight and puberty.Gillian Ford, author of Listening to Your Hormones
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT! Review: This has got to be my favorite book of all time! It was informative, but not to informative. I love this kind of book. I am 14 and fat, so this book really made me realize any size is okay, even though 14 is a bit old for this book. I recomend it for ages 9-11. READ IT!
