Summary: More balanced than other VBAC lit I've seen
Review: This book did not take the "VBAC at any cost" appoach that is disturbingly present in some of the other lit, which seems unwilling to acknowledge that there are indeed necessary c-sections. I can't trust a book that doesn't acknowledge this because my daughter would have died without our section. The other major book I have read contends that only a foolish, fearful woman will resist VBAC...to me, this book deals much more thoroughly with the trade offs of both approaches. Also important, the author emphasizes that these choices should be made on the basis of what the patient believes is best and safest for herself and her baby-- not on the basis of what the doctor/the medical industry prefers.

Summary: skip this book
Review: This book offers none of the available solutions to the risks that are sighted.

There are solutions, managments, and couses of actions to protect yourself, and this book does not do a good job in presenting them.

Summary: Unbiased and RECENT facts & statistics
Review: This book provides the first unbiased look at VBAC that I have read. Most books are geared toward one main function....to make any woman who doesn't feel she's a candidate for VBAC feel like a failure and worthless. This book provides statistics and facts that most "blindly supportive" VBAC books refuse to print. The truth hurts their cause. I definitely encourage women who have any doubts to read this book. The statistics that are presented are RECENT, which most books like The Silent Knife cannot boast

Summary: Dreadful Book With Bad Information
Review: This books is full of misinformation and faulty reasoning. If you are contemplating VBAC, instead of wasting your money here, find a copy of Natural Birth After Cesarean by Karis Crawford PhD and Johanne C Walters BSN, RN. These women are experts in vaginal birth after cesarean, Eizabeth Kaufmann is NOT. Elizabeth seems to need to validate her choice of repeat cesarean by bashing vbac. Calling repeat cesarean "the responsible and reasonable choice" she advocates major abdominal surgery as the optimal way to bring children into the world and vbac as the choice of irresponsible women who are more concerned about their birth experience than their child. This is patently false and shows her extreme bias. Elizabeth Kaufmann uses faulty research and unjustified conclusions to back up her belief that cesarean is better. She misrepresents several leading authorities on vbac and diguises anecdotal evidence as statistical fact. Again, instead of wasting your money on this book, buy the Crawford and Walters book, or Open Season by Nancy Wainer Cohen or Dr Bruce Flamms book on VBAC that clearly shows vbac to be the safer alternative

Summary: Great book for making an informed decision
Review: This is the only VBAC book that presented the option of repeat cesarean. Not everyone wants to try a VBAC and this book explained both alternatives. This book can help you to understand your options and make the best choice for yourself, not the best choice for your doctor or insurance company. I used this book to chose whether or not to try a VBAC, and I know that I made an informed choice that was the best one for me.

Summary: Worst book ever
Review: This the worst book for any women trying for vbac or considering it. The book promises to be biased but seems to have a pro cesarean tone about it. I would not recomend this book to ANYONE! It is books like this that aid OB into scaring women into unnessisary abdominal sugery. this book in no way impowers or informs pregnant women. This book does not deserve the star I was forced to give it.

Summary: Don't waste your money on this book.
Review: This was an excellent source for presenting both sides of VBAC. If you are considering VBAC read this book. It will provide you with good questions to ask your health care provider regarding their procedures for VBAC. It will aslo provide you the information to decide if you want a repeat c-section. You should be aware of all the risks involved with VBAC, as well as c-section. This will aslo help you develop your birth plan if you have any questions about doing that the second time around.
