Summary: Excellent, helpful
Review: After scanning plenty of books on this and related subjects, it was a relief to find this one. She speaks directly to the topic of returning to the world of dating after a substantial loss in one's life. Free of jargon, babble, and exclamation points, it goes right to the major points to consider when re-entering the world of singles. Invaluable. Concrete, well-laid out, speaks to my issues and maybe to yours.

Summary: Good Advice for New Daters
Review: Fear and loneliness lead people to live quite negative lives. These emotions hold back the emotional growth of a person, no matter what their age. Life is a short time frame given to us to enjoy creation. One needs to take full advantage of this situation.

There is a fear of change, of going taken outside one's comfort zone. The unknown always conjures up images based on myth rather than fact. Keeping an open mind about change will lead to an enrichment of the human experience.

Humans are a sociable race. They crave the company of others of their kind. It is this part of the human condition that makes us all vulnerable.

Being reliant on another starts from the time of conception. Once out of the womb this reliance can last up to twenty years or more. So the need to fit in and be accepted by other humans is an integral part of our being.

Dating is part of the process we use to seek acceptance both as a companion, friend, lover and soul mate. One must approach this process with caution. Letting romantic notions get in the way of common sense can lead to untold disasters.

During the teen phase of people's lives, life is one great adventure. New ideas and feelings seek one's attention. Yet teenagers have the need for acceptance by others within their group.

To want acceptance on equal terms does not diminish with age. The environment in which it occurs will change through life's journey. This can challenge a person's belief in themselves and their ability to makes friends.

The Unofficial Guide to Dating Again is an excellent book dealing with the highs and lows of getting out and meeting new people. Not all of those people we meet in our society make an ideal partner. There are seedy people who prey on others weaknesses.

For those people wanting to take the plunge and get back into dating, this book is a must. It covers all of what one needs to know, to protect yourself and your family when meeting new companions. It is a book that I highly recommend.

Summary: This is a so so kind of a read
Review: I haven't dated in over 10 years, so needless to say, I'm rusty! I thought maybe this book could get me back into the swing of things. There wasn't much to get me going. It was all too much common sense. I already knowhow to dress the part. I already know how to act like a gentleman when I'm around a woman. And, I already know where to find a woman to ask for a date. They are all over the place, and this book gives a list of places on where to meet them??? Ho hum! It has some good tips to use, but not enough in my particular case. I'm rusty, but not that rusty! This would be a very good book for the younger man and woman who are just getting into dating.

Summary: The perfect gift for a friend who hasn't a clue
Review: I was looking for some "official" advice for a friend of ours (hi, Jeff!) who is seeking a new partner but whose confidence has been badly shattered by what he thinks of as "failures" in his love life. Tessina's book says everything I've been trying to tell him and more: how to start over, keeping your expectations reasonable, how important it is to work out the old baggage BEFORE you start a new relationship, etc. Plus such priceless insight as the impossibility of truly changing another person all by yourself. The section on modern dating etiquette could be quite helpful, too, to anyone who's been out of circulation for some time. Very sane, comforting, clear, and, jargon-free. (Susan K. Perry, author of WRITING IN FLOW)

Summary: If the idea of dating is scary, this is the book for you.
Review: I wrote this book for everyone who has been "off the market" for a while, and is now looking again. From my years of counseling all kinds of people through grief, loss and starting over, I know how daunting dating can be. You'll find encouragement, good ideas, and easy steps you can follow to make your dating experience simple, fun and successful. Enjoy!!!

Summary: Good Advice for New Daters
Review: This is a very good book for anybody who, for whatever reason, has been absent from the dating scene for any length of time. It gives a lot of information and details about what to expect and how to overcome obstacles before and after the big event.

Since I'm over forty, however, another book gave me more information specifically targeted to baby boomers. It's called BABY BOOMER BACHELORETTE, and is a great dating and sex guide for anybody who falls into the baby boomer bracket, that is, 40-58.

Both books would make great companion pieces for new daters.
