Rating: Summary: Definitive reference, concise information, great organizatio Review: I discovered this book many years ago when I was getting serious about vitamins and improving my health. I bought and read a number of vitamin books at the time, but this is the only book I use frequently. With the aid of this book, I made a personal perscription program for myself and my husband focusing on our needs, age, etc. The vitamins were ordered on sale from puritanspride and an inventory spreadsheet manages my inventory. As I focused on various areas of need, I noticed the visible improvements and have tweaked my program over the years. One of my bigger fears with vitamins was taking too many or taking ineffective vitamins. This has been a winner for me. Without this book, I could never have gotten this system in place. Of course, vitamins don't replace medical help sometimes, but they help keep us healthier than we might be otherwise.I recommend this book to anyone interested in vitamins. I have sent copies to my friends and relatives. It is my absolute favorite. This books tells you what each vitamin / mineral does for you, the recommended dosage and the optimum daily allowance. This is a collection of clear well-organized information that is an excellent reference book.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Guide for Supplements! Review: I have been looking for a reference to vitamins, minerals and other substances purported to be healthful for various reasons, THIS IS IT. Basically the approach is "prevention is worth a pound of cure". When things get serious, modern medicine is usually your best option, but along the way, maintain a health life style and give your body what it needs, not to excess. Studies are references with scientific background. I was concerned about taking too much of any one vitamin or mineral that was included in my multivitamin. With this book, I learned that with the IU content of most multivitamins on the market this is very unlikely.

Rating: Summary: I use it everyday!! Review: I manage a vitamin store and refer customers to the information in this book everyday! It is easy to use and is in simple language. I think it is power packed with information and would be a good book for either your first book or completing your library.
Rating: Summary: An excellent reference for the layperson to professional Review: I reviewed many books before deciding on this purchase. Although I am a Registered Nurse, I discovered how much I did not know about vitamins and minerals for my own personal use. I find this book to be an excellent reference - my "bible" for dietary supplements. I recommend this to everyone. I find the information easy to read and it is direct and to the point. There is not a lot of unnecessary information built in. If you are looking for a particular vitamin or mineral, this book gives you information about dosages, specific health conditions, and also toxicities and maximum doses. I recommend it to anyone who wants to-the-point information that will help them decide on vitamin and mineral supplements. END
Rating: Summary: Excellent Reference, may be a bench mark Review: The book in itself is 5 stars. The reason I give it 4 stars is due to the fact that the author has done a great job collecting the info and putting it well, but not made the effort in describing in great detail how to design each individuals nutrient intake.
Good points:
1. The author is herself a nutritionist and she backs all her claims with scientific claims, and she is very honest at times when there is not enough research in the field.
2. Very good read and quite interesting flow of text.
3. Ample Information especially on each vitamins.
Bad Points:
1. Can get boring sometimes, I agree that mentioning about a certain doctor saying a certain thing makes the text in book more reliable, but too much bla-bla gets boring for people not from the medical background.
2. Design your own Optimum nutrient intake is the weakest chapter and that is the one which should have been strongest. This is what the book is all about, the information on all the vitamins is widely available and is the fact that we all need to increase the vitamin intake.
Rating: Summary: Superb. A must for anyone interested in supplements. Review: This book provides a complete discussion of all the most important supplements, and does so in an easy-to-read style. It is also extremely well-documented, to prove that indeed supplements are necessary for optimal health. Excellent job, Shari and Nancy!
