Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: prevents 99% of problems women may have breastfeeding Review: I'm a firm believer in preventing problems before they start, and Janet Tamaro's book will do just that. She discusses *why* you should breastfeed, or at least "try it" even if you think it's "not for you" (it doesn't have to be; it's for your baby), and how and why to avoid situations that can cause breastfeeding problems such as drugs in delivery, bottles by the nurses, infant/mother separation. Maybe it will make some people realise that those of us who advocate those things aren't martyrs, but are realists. Proper latch-on and positioning are well explained, as are the realities of living with a tiny newborn. (Scary sometimes for first time moms, but it doesnt' have to be.) "So that's what they're for" should be available in every bookstore instead of dry, condenscending books such as the "what to expect" series. Read this and you won't need the any other books on early babyhood because you'll be well on your way to being tuned into your baby and your body. It's a pretty fast read but good for a second or third trip through. --

It is a friendly yet informative book -- written by a fun nursing mom. You'll learn how vastly superior breastmilk and breastfeeding are to any and all other substitutes. And, you'll learn how to do it right! One of the most helpful sections was on different positions for nursing. Learning two ways to nurse lying down let me relax and recuperate effectively. (And help me get through the night, even at 18 months now.)But don't be afraid to ask a real mom if you can watch her nurse her baby! Most of us would love to help another mom with nursing. It's natural, but it's not always easy. This book helps with questions about positioning, pumping, frequency, quantity, and quality. A great place to begin!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An excellent and funny resource for breastfeeding mothers! Review: I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. In contrast to La Leche League's _Womanly Art of Breastfeeding_, this book is informative, funny and a joy to read. The LLL book was much less helpful and reads almost like a propaganda tract rather than a reference book. _So That's What They're For_ covers every subject imaginable -- from technique to snappy comebacks to snide comments about breastfeeding. The writing style is *very* readable! If you're looking for the one, best reference to learn about breastfeeding this is it!

Review: i got this book as a present while pregnant, and it was really helpful to be prepared for when i first gave birth and then to refer to again when i came home from the hospital and had a few more questions come up. i was so thrilled when my baby latched on right after birth! it might not have happened that way if i hadn't read this book before i delivered. i am happy to report that i have a great nursing relationship with my 3 month old partly due to a good start from reading this book, which is also funny and very readable.

I do not think that anything could have stopped me from breastfeeding. My relationship with my baby is off to a great start thanks to this informative book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This book is wonderful for first-time breastfeeding moms! Review: As a first time mom who is also breastfeeding I really enjoyed reading this book. Alot of the other books I read were so hard to understand, but this one provides clear honest information. I also like that it has alot of humor thrown in, so it is not like reading a textbook!

I wrote, SO THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE FOR! BREASTFEEDING BASICS, after a fruitless search at the bookstore for a FUNNY, informative guide to a subject that can sometimes be overwhelming. SO THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE FOR! contains all of the recent, relevant research and the true basics, like "Inserting "Breast A into Mouth B," plus essentials for working mothers like, "Leaving the house and taking your breasts with you." Your baby thanks you for the effort and time you put in learning to breastfeed him/her. I am honored to have been a small part of the most loving thing you can do as the mother of a small baby. Thanks for your comments
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The breastfeeding mother's Survival Guide! Review: This book is truly a must for anyone breastfeeding or contemplating it. I just purchased my second copy (gift) and am wondering if I should have bought a third!! This book touches every aspect of breastfeeding and explains it in a way that is both easy to understand and reassuring. Since I was probably the most frazzled, hysterical new mother ever...this book saved my sanity and my breastfeeding relationship with my daughter. I found this book when she was 2.5 weeks old and my daughter is now 15-16 months old and STILL nursing. And I never thought I would make it to 3 weeks!
