Rating: Summary: Helpful but limited Review: As a father with a 10-month old girl, this book was helpful for understanding basic hair care as well as offering some simple styles. If it had more information on braiding, it would be even more helpful as my daughter's hair is growing quickly and I am not completely familiar with braiding styles and options. The inclusion of the "old wives' tales" is a great feature that points out some myths about AA hair care. My mother-in-law read the book and laughed about all the "myths" recalling her own experience with her grandmother, etc., and then told me braid the baby's hair because "it will grow faster." This was a good book to get me started but next I will buy something with more explanations styles and how-to for braiding.
Rating: Summary: Great ideas, but not enough details. Review: As the mother of 3 bi-racial daughters I am always on the look out for tips on hair care. This book did help me with some styling ideas, but there were not enough details on products to use on the hair itself. With everything that lines the shelves of the beauty supply store, a mom's head could spin from all the choices. It would have helped if the book listed what products the models had used in their hair.
Rating: Summary: This book is a Godsend! Review: I didn't even realize how many questions I had about caring for and styling my child's hair until I read this marvelous book! Michele N-K Collison gets to the root of the problem and serves up a book that is USEFUL,informative and full of warm wit and humor. Even if you think you know it all, this book will open your eyes! Do yourself a favor and read it.
Rating: Summary: it really is good hair - info Review: I got this book as soon as it came out and have used it for ideas on different styles. My 3 year old likes to look at the photos and dream of what I might be able to do to her hair (once it gets a bit longer for some of the styles). I would have liked some of the photos to be in colour because it's sometimes hard to figure out what's been done but most of the time there is a great explanation.
Rating: Summary: What to Do? Review: I had no idea how to go about doing my daughters hair. The book guided me through the process of braiding that I never knew before. So Im glad this book is available for me. I was really to embarrased to take them out of the house...Thanks.
Rating: Summary: A lifesaver! Review: I have been looking for a book like this for two years! I am the mother of a two year old adopted African-American daughter. One of my major concerns has been her hair. This book was awesome!!! It gives advice for birth on up. The pictures were great and the directions are easy to follow. I have had experience with braiding but this shows someone who hasn't, exactly what to do. It also gives advice on washing, combing and just about everything in between. I'm so glad someone finally wrote the book I have been waiting for!
Rating: Summary: Finally, a Kiddie Hairdo Book That's ALL GOOD!!! Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK! The hairstyle instructions are easy to follow; the information is comprehensive, covering everything from afros to zig-zag parts; and the personal anecdotes from real-life parents set it apart from most how-to hair books. I like that the author deals with hairstyles for girls AND boys, and I appreciate her taking time to offer tips for dealing with all types of hair textures. Most of all, I like that Collison urges readers to affirm their children's hair, no matter the texture, color or style. It is a must-have for any loving parent or childcare provider who is looking to instill positive self-image and grooming habits in children.
Rating: Summary: poorly written with bad instructions, not what i hoped for Review: i was not too fond of this book for a few reasons.first it is all in black and whit(although the paper its printed on looks more yellow!)and a few of the pictures are a bit hard to make out because of this.the pictures look old fashioned and look like something out of the 1960s.did she use a professional photographer at all??also i dont feel that the instructions are very well written, theyre not detailed enough, especially for a complete beginner(like me).she gives photographes for various types of cornrows(easy to difficult),but she only gives instructions for the very basic type and expects you to pick it all up from that.what type of good author and book does that?? no disrespect to this author but i didnt find this book very helpful.also the tips she gives for washing kids and babies hair did not work well for my kids,or their friends.I would have prefered it if it were more colourful and had better step by step instructions for EACH!! diagram, not just basic instructions for1 or 2 basic styles.
Rating: Summary: The title alone was enough 4me 2 buy the book 4 my daughter Review: I've learned a long time ago, when in search of a how-to book, try the kids section. Most of the time it is there and in simpler form. I admit I purchased this book for myself. If you've been looking for different ways to style you or your children's hair, then this is the book. It shows how to do coils, knots, twists, and more. It has a lot of pictures, (black and white). It gives a lot of instructions on maintaining your hair for boys and girls. If you have just decided to go natural and can't seem to take that hat off of your head, you might want to try this book. Or, if you're thinking about putting a perm in your child's hair, you might want to try this book.
