Rating: Summary: Everything you need to know to live in one well-written book Review: Quite simply, the most important book ever written on the nuts and bolts of how to lead a simple, healthy and rewarding life while still being a part of modern society. Thousands of years of knowledge are condensed into a few hundred tightly written pages. Interspersed with practical instruction on diet, exercise, meditation, sex and hygiene are whimsical stories from the Taoist sages of ancient China, as well as the words of modern-day prophets whom you might never hear about anyplace else. This is the kind of book you will want to keep on your nightstand and just read over and over, little pieces at a time. Open this book to any page and just start reading, and you will learn something. You don't even have to be a Taoist to like this book... but it helps! Daniel P. Reid, if you're out there someplace, thank you for writing this wonderful book!
Rating: Summary: This is an EXCELLENT introduction to Taoism!!! Review: Simply put: I bought this book out of curiosity and wound up curing a digestive disorder that had plagued me for my entire life! The book also enhanced my appreciation of my studies in Tai Chi Chuan, Qi Kung, Nei Kung, Meditation, Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine. After reading this book I became a Taoist. It opened up the Way for further study and appreciation. Thank you Daniel P. Reid for compiling this information in a comprehensive and easily "digestible" manner. I also strongly recommend his other books, especially "The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing" and "Chinese Herbal Medicine". If you are serious about changing your life or curious about Tao, these books are all the introduction you will require.
Rating: Summary: Inspired to the peak of health with this literature Review: Somehow Daniel Reid's words brought me to my absolute best physical condition. His suggestions picked up momentum and my enthusiasm for health became an accelerating train. I find myself calm and peaceful with almost no body fat, and a strong, defined, lean muscular body. I found the spiritual aspects to this book wonderful, but I would also recommend it to people who would like it just for its inspirational aspects regarding health. Truly transformational.
Rating: Summary: Modern physiological approch to ancient knowledge Review: Thanks to Daniel Reid in presenting the superb ancient knowledge in modern physiological way. I am so surprised that such advanced medical knowledge were already mastered by the Chinese thousands of years ago, they are so useful but were ignored for centuries. Most of the important topics has never been emphasized in the modern medical schools.
Rating: Summary: Not Really Chinese Medicine Review: The book was good, and informative; however, it does not really reflect the position of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The author is a big fan of raw food diets, colon cleansing and drastically cleansing diets and fasting. In TCM this treatment may be appropriate for some individuals suffering from "Damp Stagnation" such as cancer, obesity, etc, and maybe "Damp Heat" (i.e. inflamatory diseases) but IS NOT usually recommended for everyone, and NEVER recommended for anyone on a long term basis. The TCM maintenance diet prefers food that is lightly cooked, and avoidance of extreme food such as juices. I give the book a low rating because it's title implies that it is a book about Chinese health philosophy, when it is not.
Rating: Summary: changed my life Review: this book has transformed my life. from the second i bought it i couldn't put it down it puts every thought i have had in my life into simple form. the best part is how easy it is to use. he writes an in depth descrition of the taoist practice and than gives an more user friendly approach so it's up to you how far to take it. it's a great introduction and guideline to taoism and to take it further you would need to seek a teacher. i loved it!
Rating: Summary: better than the bible Review: this book just rules. so far i have recommended it to 6 of my friends, each of whom has come back praising it... and each of whom is now on a path to having a healthier and more fulfilled life. the nutrition section i find especially valuable; i have been on their plan for a few months and feel amazing. there is also a gigantic section on tantric sex which has the potential to change your view of sex completely and for the better. really. you should check this out.
Rating: Summary: Enlightenment. The real way to change your life. Review: This book was an unexpected, and amazing find. While not every page of this book may be for you, it will definately act like a 'slap in the face' about your current lifestyle. The insight provided into health (mental and physical), diet and longevity is priceless. If you feel sluggish, unsatisfied, and wanting more from life, this book is for you. So many of our 'Western' habits are founded on the wrong principles, or they don't listen to the natural way of the body. This book leads you by the hand, and points you in the right direction. By far one of the most enlightening books I've ever read. Buy it even if you could care less about 'Taoism'. It will compliment anyone's life. Contains detailed information about diet and food combinations, real-world nutritional facts (not nutritional theorems grown in a lab by a scientist working for a food corporation), great solutions for stress relief and inner peace, and so much more. Throw out every self help book, diet book, and exercise book that you own and read The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity. It starts with the nature of your body in mind, not with a theory. Where most books contain some helpful advice, you are often left feeling like your money was taken. This book will make you wish for more. Much more.
Rating: Summary: Please get one. Review: This is one of the best books of its kind! It will make you understand things that you hadn't known before and which have been affecting your health and preventing you from feeling happy. It will inspire you a lot and can literally prolong your life. You need to get it!
