Rating: Summary: great book, really comprehensive Review: I've read this book , after my wife finished reading it. I thought it was very informative, and gave us lots of information, so that together we were able to discuss whatever we weren't sure of with the pregnancy. It went week by week telling us what to expect during the pregnancy, what the visits at the doctor would consist of , what tests would be taken and etc. I highly recommend this book to anyone expecting multiples, to guide you through your pregancy! I've leafed through other books, and felt this was the 'only' one that was clear, concise and to the point, of what I needed to find out in this multiple pregnancy. AS this is not our first child, we have read 'What to Expect When You are Expecting', with our other children, and this was quite a similar book, only that here it was not in question answer format, but just in 'fact format'!! A really great book!!
Rating: Summary: Offers alot of easily accessible information Review: My husband and I are the parents of four month old twins and got this book about a month before our daughters were born (at 36 weeks). It has been great! We bought the Elizabeth Noble book early on in the pregnancy and did not find it uplifting and, while it had a lot of information, the tone was generally negative and judgmental. I happen to be nursing both of my babies but it was clear to me that, while the writers of TWINS! were encouraging breast feeding, they were also trying to support mothers who chose or need to bottle feed. I felt like TWINS! offered lots of information (we really liked the list of questions to ask a potential pediatrician and I think it helped us make the right choice). The focus on seeing yourself and your doctors as members of a team was extremely helpful. I still refer to the book alot and would recommend it to any expectant parents of twins. I give it four stars. How about sequels for the toddler and elementary years?
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive, positive look at what to expect with twins Review: My impression of this book differs so significantly from that of the other reviewer on this site that I can't believe we read the same book! I felt that this book, while it did not explore any one aspect of twins in-depth, gave an excellent overview of pregnancy, delivery and the first year (as the title would imply). I, too, read the Elizabeth Noble book referred to by the other reviewer and would not recommend it to anyone. The author is too hard-lined about issues such as breastfeeding, drug-free, vaginal deliveries, and diet. "Twins!" is much more middle-of-the-road and takes a look at all options with little bias. This allows the reader to make her own decisions about these issues without pressure or guilt. This book is certainly not all-inclusive and I would encourage expectant parents to read anything and everything they can find on the subject of multiples. However, "Twins!" is a great place to start.
Rating: Summary: well used Review: My twins will be a year old next month and I have used this book constantly since early in my pregnancy when I received it as a gift. I came to the site to order a copy for a friend who just found out she's pregnant with twins and decided to write because I saw a review that said this book had "doom and gloom: and I could not disagree more! I went through my pregnancy with this book and then right on into my babys' first year and used it as my first reference all the time. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone pregnant with twins.
Rating: Summary: a wonderful member of our "team"! Review: our sons were born at thirty four weeks and spent about three weeks in the NICU. We were incredibly lucky in that they came home together, without monitors and are doing great. I also recommend Dr. Klein's book on preemies CARING FOR YOUR PREMATURE BABY. It is written in the same caring and understandable style. I have most of the books that are out there on twins and this is my favorite.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly Helpful Review: There aren't many books on the market on twins, especially as it relates to all the details (what to expect; what the mother is going through; how the babies are growing; advice from doctors; growth patterns, etc), but this book is an awesome one, and covers many of these topics and more. My wife and I just recently had our first twin daughters, but prior to that, my wife looked and looked at all the "typical" baby books to no avail. None of them addressed twins, and if they did it was only in a cursory way. This book has it all. She's been using it ever since we knew she was pregnant, and I'm sure she'll continue as they grow into a year old. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: This is really a great book! Review: This book is wonderful! It's been extremely hard for me to find good books on twins, especially pregnancy information. This one takes you through month by month and I really enjoyed the ultrasound pictures included in the book. It was exciting to compare them to mine and see what to expect at the next doctor's visit. The only suggestion I have is that they could have included more information on worries that mothers have (i.e. swelling, sickness) and how to deal with them. I know I've been constantly concerned about making sure that by doing certain things, I'm not overexerting myself so the more they could write, the better I'd feel. But I still love this book and re-read it over and over again!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: Twins! is an upbeat look at having twins without preaching to you how you should act. It does recommend breastfeeding and discusses nutrition without making the expectant mother feel guilty if she doesn't follow the advice to the letter. Elizabeth Noble's book focuses too much on the negative things that can happen and made me feel that if I ate a cheeseburger I was a horrible person. Twins! is very helpful and positve and I'd recommend it to all expectant mothers of twins.
Rating: Summary: Twins! A must have for those in "twinshock"! Review: When we found out we were expecting twins, we were literally bowled over. My hubby is a twin, but we never even entertained the idea of twins, ourselves. We got this book, and, wow! Shows you month by month, how your babies are growing, how your body may look, what symptoms and signs you may be having, answered so many questions I had, it was a godsend! If you are lucky enough to be expecting twins, or know someone who is, this book will become a bedside companion!
Rating: Summary: love this book Review: When you are preparing to become a parent of twins, your world is turned upside down. We picked up this book in my wife's second month - on the advice of friends who loved it - and it was our guide through birth and the girls' first year. My wife felt this book improved her ability to ask the right questions through the course of her pregnancy. The talks with parents were great. The tone of the book was comforting and upbeat, even though it offered a lot of information. We've also bought Ganon's follow up book "Raising Twins" even though our daughters just had their first birthday - please see my review of that book as well.
