Rating: Summary: Informative Review: I bought this in addition to Driven to Distraction. Both were very good and I recommend the Driven to Distraction also. It was easier for me to listen to than read, as I have ADHD and have a hard time sitting down to read anything that somewhat resembles a text book. It helped me a lot and I enjoyed listening to it.
Rating: Summary: Everything you ever wanted to know about ADD Review: This is an excellent book and a must read for those people with ADD or those people who are living with someone who has it. Great explanations and very practical!
Rating: Summary: Understanding WHO I am - not WHAT I am ! Review: This was one of the BEST books I have ever read! I have an extensive library of books but this could have been written by ME ! I have more of an understanding of why I have done ( and still do,at times) certain things the way I do - I also know that others are just like me -and we are NOT stupid, lazy or crazy- I needed this insight more than all the technical things I have tried to learn. A "must read" book for all ADHD "gifted" people !!! :)
Rating: Summary: A book any adult with ADD should read! Review: I actually saw this book at a local store and totally related with the title! I have read it since and totally relate to it and have recommended it to people constantly since the first page. People with ADD and people who love someone with ADD. A must read!
Rating: Summary: The book to start with if you wish to diagnose ADULT ADD Review: The best starting book for ADULTS trying to determine if they have ADD, or if an adult loved one has ADD. Easy to read and follow, and it cuts right to the important points! It is also very encouraging. You should know whether ADD is a correct diagnosis by the time you finish the book. Then, and only then, should you read "Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with ADD...." by Hallowell and Ratey, both MDs. They have more useful tips, presented concisely, but their initial presentation is case studies. ADDers will not have the patience to read through that, as I well know. That's why this book is the best first reader. So....get this book! Thank you, Kate and Peggy.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: If you just found out or suspect that you have ADD this is the book for you. It may answer many of your questions about ADD.This is also the best selling book at livingwithadd.com
Rating: Summary: Changed My Life Review: This book is amazing. I've always felt i was different or just plain crazy. After reading this, all the pieces fell into place. It was great to read about the symptoms of ADD and see them in yourself. This book also helps debunk a lot of the myths around ADD. If you think its just being hyper you are WRONG and this book will set you straight. If you are an adult and have ADD, this book is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Where was this book when I needed it 20 years ago? Review: How much of this scenario sounds familiar to you? I'm in my mid-thirties and have floundered my whole life....not just in one arena of life....but in many (if not all). For 20 years, one thought has been weighing excrutiatingly on my brain: "Why am I so (explitive deleted)different?" Does any of this sound like you? This book...this wonderful book has finally given me some kind of validation, by eerily describing MY life....hell, I'm even an advertising copywiter....I have no idea how they got that one right. I'm telling anybody who is interested in finally getting real answers to those frustating questions that never got asked, "Read this book, friend." I have already wasted well over 20 years because I didn't know what the hell was "wrong with me." And, yes, for 20 years, I KNEW I wasn't stupid....I KNEW I wasn't crazy (well...a little crazy, but NOT insane), so that left me with feelings that I was must be lazy. I honestly didn't think I was lazy, but since that what everybody said, it must have been true. And that only made me feel guilty! People, if you have something to be gained by conquering ADD, I highly suggest that you read this book. If for no other reason than for personal validation that you're not lazy, stupid or crazy.
Rating: Summary: Most Helpful Book on ADD I have ever read....!!! Review: This book has really changed my life in so many ways. Having ADD as an adult is one thing....but being able to do something about it in a positive way is yet another challenge. This book enabled me to make some really fundamental changes in the way I operate to take advantage of the skills I have. It really helps in enabling you to rationalize your "lazy/crazy" behaviours by giving you a pseudo-scientific explanation for why you do the things you do. It does this by relating your actions to they way the brain works in an ADD vs. non-ADD person. Also, it relates brain functionality with day-to-day examples such as filing cabinets, etc... Best part of the book is that it doesn't give you specific answers, since there is a different solution for every individual. Rather, it arms you with the fundamental facts/issues/consequences so you can formulate something that works best for you. As a well-educated adult in a challenging profession, this book has helped me cope with my limitations due to ADD very effectively. I can't thank the authors enough...and that is why I am writing this review so that others may benefit.
Rating: Summary: Alas a book for those of us that cope Review: While I do not personally suffer with ADD, I have a family member that does. This book has been so helpful in trying to see what they go with, and best of all how for me to cope with this. This book gives practicle suggestions to a variety of situations that a person might encounter. Out of all of the ADD books, I have liked this one the best as it brings problems down to a realistic level and suggests different ways to work through them. I would recommend this book to both the person that suffers with ADD and their family.
