Rating: Summary: every grrl & woman should read this book Review: i have to buy another copy every time i lend mine out, because i love this book too much! Inga Muscio is a wise soul for one so young. she discusses many different aspects of women's lives and body/mind and does so with perspective and humor. The chapter on menstruation, tampons, pads, and sponges, is worth the cover price all by itself!
Rating: Summary: I preffered the sequel Review: In this series on body orfices, I must say that this book was better than Earhole, but does not compare to Nostril.
Rating: Summary: Please........ Review: I read the book and you know what? The author forgets to realize that she wouldn't even be living on this earth if it weren't for a MAN. Women get hurt by a man early in life (father, lover) then they write books like this one. Open up the spill proof lid from your starbucks latte and smell the coffee because this book does not represent the real world.Women will always need strong males to protect them for their own survival. A 4 foot 11" woman could never pull a 70 pound fire hose up a 3 flight ladder and put out a fire. It just isn't happening. This author will come to her senses someday when she is old and grey wishing she "bred" a child with a man to take care of her in her old age. A plastic toy from an adult store can never replace a strong and powerful man.
Rating: Summary: this one gives real examples girls! Review: The reasons this book is so good are innumerable..way too many to write here. It will be an "ah-ha" for women who haven't been fortunate enough to walk into a women's studies course. This book is fun, easy to get through, so deep, inspirational, and very very important. You will learn a better way to look at one's womanhood and understand why this is so important. Be proud to have a book entitled "cunt" on your bookshelf: this is an empowering statement of a book, ladies. What this book does so brilliantly is remain accessable, as it gives many suggestions to go along with its philosophical message of equality and pride. Everything from sea sponges to lunar calendars to passages you'll underline or star or circle and wish you could recite to yourself every minute of your day! you won't regret opening this book.
Rating: Summary: something else Review: This book is from a kickass school: it's not preoccupied with men, it's not loose and theoretical. It's about coming to terms: with your own body, with language, with the culture at large. It's about subverting the tampon industry, hanging out with your mom, taking control of some of the more suspicious parts of your life, and riding skateboards down the street while wearing bunny-ear hats. I never did feel like part of the club before when reading feminist literature, but this book made me feel invited to the party.
Rating: Summary: Hidden potency in a humorous book. Review: I was loaned this book by a friend and I found that it is not JUST a book of bitching ("Mary, pity women"), but a serious exposition on the philosophy of drifted language. One reader said that she Ms Muscio doesn't offer ways to improve the matter, but I disagree. she says to start using the word like it is supposed to be used and the practice can spread. That is a solid and profound suggestion, reaching into many more areas than feminism. This book should be read by professionals of all areas of endeavor who must deal with other people. Buy it. It is a power edge.
Rating: Summary: This Book is Great! Review: I read this book for a female sexuality class and it was such a wonderful eye opener to the fantastic qualities of the female sex and what we need to do to empower ourselves. Every woman should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Must Read for Every Woman and Every Man Who Knows a Woman Review: I purchased this book before a dear friend of mine told me that an "ex-friend" had called her a cunt in drunken anger on occasion. I wanted to hunt the guy down and bust his mouth, even though the words were spoken years ago. Drunkenness or anger are no excuse, I doubt the "man" has removed it from his vocabulary. I can't imagine a more disparaging term towards a woman. "Whore" and "slut" are nothing compared to "cunt." The word "cunt" is to women what the word "nigger" is to an African American. I was watching a movie on TV a while back and noticed that "Goddamn" and "ass" were not bleeped out, but "nigger" was. I thought that we had given way to much power to the "N-word." Cunt is another word that carries too much power. These words need to be stripped of their power or their power needs to be used to build, instead of destroy. That is what Inga Muscio has tried to accomplish, and to a certain extent does, in her book, Cunt. She wants to reclaim "cunt" for women as a title of honor. This is a daunting task, I doubt that it will happen in my lifetime. She did accomplish that, by the end of the book, I was no longer shocked to read the word, but I would still be angered to hear it spoken. I do not agree with Ms. Muscio that white men and western civilization are the root cause of all problems for any disenfranchised group on the planet. While, she does make a strong case for her point of view, all colors of men, in many cultures, have done their fare share of raping and pillaging the planet and weaker peoples. In part 2 of her book, Ms. Muscio gets to the core of what we men can be. It is not what all of us are, but it is what we all can be. It is unlikely that any girl will hear from her dad what the dangers of being a woman are. I have seen men I know look at a slightly drunk female in the same way the men looked at Jodie Foster before and during the rape scene in "The Accused." We are dangerous creatures. Women and the men who do care for them need to be ever vigilant of that fact. This book is a invaluable tool in that educational process. I found this to be one of the most disturbing, shocking, inspiring, troubling, funny, sad, angry and important books I have ever read. I will likely buy many copies and give them to my friends, both female and male. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Prepare to have your worldview disrupted Review: This book has had an immeasurable impact on how I view myslef, my body, and my relationship with other women. It's rather empowering to have somebody (FINALLY) say all of the things that you've been thinking but never thought you had an audience for. As a rape survivor, I found one passage to be especially true: A man could, feasibly, sacrifice his lunch break raping a woman. That woman would then spend the rest of their life dealing with it. So would her daughters. So would theirs. The distribution of power is not acceptable. This book will force you to reexamine your attitudes on a multitude of issues. You will not be the same after reading it.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Have Felt All Year Review: AHHH! Words don't do this justice. This book is a work of art describable only in feelings that cannot be articulated. I laughed and sobbed and took part in many other activities that the author recommended :) This book is a MUST read and a MUST pass-along. I just surrendered my copy. Now I have to buy another one so I can read it again! Hooray!
