Summary: Work that bean!
Review: Typical abstract agitprop from the womyn of the left-the-left-left-behind wing. These are your problems? Ever tried nursing a puky infant? "Yuck," they say. "The very idea of perpetrating life upon this alread-crowded planet ... what a moral outrage." But books like this let those of us who give a da#n about you fringe-dwellers know what you're thinking about.

Summary: Gems aplenty
Review: Muscio tells it like it is... and tells it and tells it. And tells it. Okay, she's a little long winded, but nestled somewhere in every chapter is an idea or concept or insight so powerful and so artfully phrased that you will have to retrieve your socks from across the room.

These gems, from the mind of our...friend Muscio, form a bridge from mild trepidation to enthusiastic embrace of the word and all its power.

If you're a brave soul, buy it, share it, say it...I keep mine on my coffeetable. Uh, the book, that is.

Summary: Men: read this book too.
Review: Although I am a staunch sex-positive feminist, as a gay man it's often difficult for me to get a truly visceral feel for the issues so critically at the heart of the philosophy of women's liberation.

Never have I felt the rage and determination that drives radical feminism brought home so powerfully and presented in a form so attractive to empathy and identification. This is a must-read for everyone - men definitely included - who associate themselves with the fight for gender equality.

Summary: Wonderful book!
Review: I loved this book! Not only is it informative and interesting, but it was easy to read and stay attentive. I would definately buy other books from this author.

Summary: SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Friggin Awesome!!
Review: This book is amazing, awesome, empowering, beautiful, powerful, shocking . . . I cannot even describe what a wonderful job Inga Muscio has done. As someone who just began to read more feminist literature and explore my own feelings re: feminism, this book rocked my world. Lordisa Inga, I love you!

Summary: Suprisingly good
Review: I picked up this book with some concern (after all, how many "third-wave" books are written with too much pop and not enough substance) but my fears were unmet once I actually started reading through the pages.

Granted some people will claim this ammounts to genital worship, but Muscio is only trying to point out that anything associated with the female genitalia has traditionally been considered weak and undesirable (the worst thing a guy can call another guy is "you pussy") while references to masculine parts, even when meant in a derogatory manner, still manage to convey strength and authority--even if the person is ill mannered.

It would be both inaccurate and overly simplistic to assumme that this book is a shallow altar to self-congratuation, or the diatribe of an angry and lonely woman with serious self-esteem problems. Ironically, these attacks reinforce the very need for the book. Women's issues are still denigrated (although less obvious than in previous generations) by society as being too trival, and those who bring them up are accused of some degree of psychosis.

Muscio also looks at why we can talk about male anatomy galore, but menstruation remains taboo in our society. Yes, pads and tampons are advertised on television, but emphasis is on secrecy and concealment, instead of talking about it openly and admitting that it is as natural as breathing.

The title may make some readers blanch (or avoid reading the book all together), but this text is not devoid of serious thought or criticisim. At the very least, it should ignite a serious discussion about what we are not saying about women's bodies and the words and meanings we assign to them.

Summary: FUCKING BRILLIANT
Review: i was browsing the bookstore when i came across this cute little book. i flipped through it, and found that someone had obviously read and re-read that copy, even highlighting passages and sentences. "how fantastic" i thought, "i bet this person snuck it back onto the shelf to show others how great the book is." and so i bought a copy, then and there. it's still there, the marked copy. at barnes and noble- union square, nyc. what a terrific advertisement for the book, and the beloved inga muscio. what a *brilliant* person, she makes me proud to be a woman. read it.

Summary: interesting.
Review: The book was kind of difficult to take seriously, though I do think this is something that most people should read. The hints of excluding transwomen (by saying things like "all women have cunts," or whatever it was) bugged me a lot. A lot of her language is cheesy and reminiscent of 2nd wave granola-eatin' MWMF-goin' feminism. She does bring up several good points, so I will give her mad credit for that.

Summary: Just beautiful
Review: This has to be one of the best "women's issues" books I've read yet. Funny, but still very raw and strong, it opens your eyes even when you didn't think they were closed. I've been quietly passing it around to all of my woman friends and everybody's had the same reaction. Do be careful about letting any resident males pick it up, though- I don't think they'll all find it as fun as us girls.

Summary: WAHOO! Let's hear it for the Girls!
Review: Feminism at its finest! This is one powerful little lady with a lot of things to day. Everyone, male or female, should read this book. It will rock your world! Her perspective is fresh and enlightening. Her writting style makes you giggle, but don't get me wrong-this is a totally serious book. What a wake up call to the world! Inga is knocking! Check it out
