Summary: generally impressive content is hurt by poor writing
Review: The points made in this book were often downright revolutionary for a teenage reader like myself. This book's fresh insight provides a read for which I was thankful. However, the book is hurt by its poor writing, lack of clear organization, and irresponsible editing. All in all a book that is worth reading--most of the ideas and the general mindset of the writer are refreshing. It is unfortunate that her obvious zeal for sharing her experience got in the way of a more careful, patient, not-so-preachy writing style.

Summary: What a rant!
Review: I liked this book. I liked this book a lot, actually. It has some terrific ideas in it. Did you ever really THINK about the issue of prostitution? What about birth control and abortion? What do you think of the idea of making sure that the guy who raped your friend is "outed" to the world? What about the very place rape has in our culture? Did you ever realize you don't have to use tampons and pads in order to keep from leaving a trail of blood around once a month? Did you ever think about a trail of blood as possibly being a GOOD thing?

Plus, Muscio gives the best quote I've ever heard about condoms. I don't know if it's original, but if it is, I'd like to shake her hand. "Men who refuse to wear condoms do not deserve to have sex with anyone except for other men who refuse to wear condoms." Hahahaha!

I have to downrate this book, though, because it's obviously just a long rant--a GOOD long rant with lots of interesting ideas, but just a rant nonetheless. It's a set of opinions that belong to one college-educated white lesbian. Some of the ideas are a little extreme. (Okay, a lot extreme.) The whole idea of menstrual cramps was concocted by the ibuprofen manufacturers? Please, if only it were that simple!

But, overall I think this is a great book to read and I do recommend it even if I don't take the whole thing seriously.

Summary: Pile 'o Garbage
Review: There are a couple of good points in this book, and as a result of reading it I will never again hand over my money or trust my body to commercial feminine care companies (i.e. Tampax).

However, for the most part this was a dreadful reading experience. There is absolutely no sense of organization, Muscio is painfully redundant, it is poorly written and just as poorly edited, and so very fluffy...even irresponsible at points. I honestly could not stop rolling my eyes. NOT recommended.

Summary: So Empowering
Review: So I was very skeptical when a friend loaned me this book. While I definitely don't agree with Inga on eveything, she really made me think and made me be proud to be a woman. Honestly, this is the most empowering book I've ever read. It didn't leave me hating men, but I did realize how phallic-dominated the world really is, and it's shocking! I've bought a copy for myself and for my 2 best girlfriends and I would recommend it to anybody!

Summary: Will change your life, or at least it should...
Review: My best friend kept pushing this book on me, but wouldn't tell me why. Finally, she had to buy it for me and drop it off at my house. Out of complete boredom, I popped it open one day. About 50 pages in I called her at work, and said OH MY GOD!! My point is, that this book will revolutionize the way you think about yourself and your womanhood. If it doesn't, it should. Read this book to your daughters (at least parts). I wish I had discovered this about 10 years ago. Buy more than one copy, because you will end up lending/giving at least 2 away after you read it. I cant give it away. I cant explain it. Just buy it!!!

Summary: great book baout women and their sexuality
Review: good book read it twice

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I'm not a feminist, but I still enjoyed the book.
Review: I bought this book because I've heard so many positive things about it. I remember seeing it in the bookstores when it first came out and seeing "that word" on such a pretty book. I was curious. But it took me a while to finally buy it.

I'm glad I did. I like that it is a feel good book about women and their vaginas. It talks about our bodies as something other than a vehicle for men to please themself with. How many books discuss vagina in a non-sexual way? Because of this, I was able to take away some of that positive power. I was able to look at the strengths of women in our society.

I did like this book. It did change the way I look at myself. But since I am a woman who is not a "feminist" and not a lesbian, there were things that didn't quite sit as well with me. Basically, I like men and think they are just as important as women. But this was a Woman Power book, so I had trouble identifying with some parts. But that does not stop me from liking or sharing this book.

Summary: Love it
Review: Empowering. Witty. Honest. USEful.

If you already identify as feminist you will love this book. It is quite easily my favorite read in years.

If on the other hand, your "knowledge" of feminism consists of spouting the man-hating myth, this is a good fresh read that will most likely change your mind.

Summary: focused
Review: necessary.
OK, let me say that again: NE-CE-SSA-RY
lots of good tips too.
And now if you' ll excuse me, I'm on my way to reading a bunch of other books in that vein, 'cause they make me feel GOOD.
NB: so glad to see that men are reading it and talking about it. I haven't yet introduced my male friends to radical feminism (we're french and it is considered distasteful), but you show me I can do it!
