Rating: Summary: This book is so needed! Review: "The Gift of a Memory" is a tender, comforting message for survivors no matter where they are on the grief journey. There will always be bad days, for the heart knows no passage of time. The book's words curbed my loneliness and acknowledged my pain. I felt reunited with my son once again. There are millions of people traveling the grief journey, people with hurting hearts who are rushing to heal. Healing is never over and "done." It is a forever process. "The Gift of a Memory" is a needed companion during this process.

Rating: Summary: The Gift of a Memory - The Gift of Comfort Review: Dear Readers, I wish to share with you the story behind The Gift of a Memory -- why I was moved to write such a book. By doing so, I believe you'll know who in your life could use such a gift. About two years ago, through my work, I met a woman who lost her 3-1/2 year old son to a rare disease. As our friendship evolved, she shared with me her story of loss and her journey through grief. She told me how friends and family offered support during her crisis and how she couldn't have gotten through the loss without them. She went on to say, however, that one of the hardest times of her journey was the first year following her son's death. "People get back to their lives," she said. "There's so many hard days that first year ... so many occasions and moments you should be sharing with the one no longer here." She summed up this reality for me: When the busyness of the funeral is over, the real grieving begins. This woman and her story prompted me to create a gift that captured the specialness of the life no longer here. I wanted to make it a keepsake that friends and family can give to a loved one to say, "I know you're sad and you will be for a long time. I know the pain from loss never really disappears. I care about you, and I wish you comfort." I also created a part of the book for special memories since memories are so important and precious following loss. I imagined this part of the book could be used several ways 1) at a funeral or wake to gather memories from friends and family members, 2) as a place to write a personal message to the recipient (you could pass the book around and gather the thoughts from several people before giving the book) and 3) as a place for the recipient to record their own thoughts and memories. I'm sure as the book finds a place with people, they will create even more special ways to use this book to offer comfort and warmth to those who need it most. Please feel free to share with me your stories of how you have given "the gift of a memory."
Rating: Summary: A beautiful gift Review: I was lucky enough to receive this book as a gift from one of my best friends when I lost my brother to cancer last year. I read it when I have had a bad day and need to be comforted, it is a wonderful way to let someone know that you care about what they are feeling and going through.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully written Review: The Gift of a Memory is a beautifully written book that reflects exactly how one feels and copes at a time of loss of a dear loved one. I will treasure this book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful gift of comfort and healing Review: The Gift of a Memory is a poignant book that offers the reader words of encouragement and support for the painful journey of grief. Beautifully illustrated, the book invites the reader to get in touch with the heartfelt memories that remain after a loved one dies. Recalling memories is key to one's healing and the Gift of Memory certainly helps the reader begin the process of discovering these treasures that are stored in the heart. I highly recommend this book for those who grieve or for those who want to offer support to others by giving them this book.
