Rating: Summary: Definately NOT for everyone! Review: I bought this book and read it. It appears to be more geared toward officer's wives and really is not meant for everybody as the author touts it to be. After using the book to make a list of questions to ask My husband's recruiter we were pretty much laughed out of the office. I would think twice before purchasing this book UNLESS you are an officer's wife or just think you are better than everyone else...in my opinion that's who this book was written by and for. There are many other books out there...this one left me with more questions than answers....
Rating: Summary: Great Book for Military Spouses Review: I love this book. I am married to an Officer in the Navy who has over 24 years of service to our country. A friend gave me this book and it is extremely helpful to us. My husband is often either not at home due to his career, or too busy to answer my questions about different situations. As an Officer's wife, I am called upon by others for help in various circumstances concernng the military. This book has helped me and I have given it to every bride at her bridal shower, no matter what her age. It is extremely important for us to be able to have this information at our fingertips. One is not often able to call someone up to ask how or where to locate certain information. To anyone who wants to get answers to questions about how to make life run as smoothly as possible in the military, this book is for you!
Rating: Summary: "Married to the Military" ROCKS! Review: I ordered the book from Amazon before it was released and I can tell you that I couldn't wait for it to arrive. I knew this book was going to be very useful and fun to read. I also knew that it would be jammed packed with information! The correct information! I also knew that I would feel very comfortable with it even though I am "just" a girlfriend. The reason I knew these things is because I am a member of [...]. I was so glad that the title to the book includes everyone. [...] When I received my book I read it cover to cover that very first day. I have also purchased a copy to keep in my car!! I loved the "Did You Know" sections and of course the "War Stories". I am now re-reading it with my yellow highlighter and with my sticky note flags!! I would suggest that anyone with a service member in their lives to read this book. Many of the male service members are reading it also! I knew that Meredith Leyva would write a book that was a straight to the point with lots of humor and like the other reviewers mentioned like talking to your friend! I am so thankful that I found the web site and I am so grateful to Meredith for writing "MY" Survival Guide!!! THIS IS A MUST READ!!
Rating: Summary: Clear, Concise and Honest! Review: I purchased one of these for myself and within weeks had purchased 4 more for friends and my sister. This book is honest and does not namby pamby military life in any way. It is positive and uplifting, but aknowledges the red tape and persistent methods one must use in dealing with aspects of the lifestyle. Married to the military was a lifesaver during our recent PCS. I will admit it is has a lot of Navy lingo, but there is an excellent glossary in the back that clears things up. It is worth the thumbing to the end of the book to not have to read through yet negative book about the military lifestyle. This book also incites conversation with spouses of other branches as well as your own spouse. It reaches to everyone from the working mom to the stay at home mom to the childless family.
Rating: Summary: Good I supposed if you are a Navy Officer's wife Review: I was all excited to check this book out. My husband recently joined the Army and I thought it would be very helpful. Unfortunately it is written as more of a guide towards Navy wives. Some of the terminology used etc... is all Navy specific. I recommend saving your money and finding a different source for good information.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Out There - It Saved My Life Review: I was not raised in a military family. Yet when I started dating my Navy fiance, I had to catch up - but quick! I had no idea of what I was getting into promising to share my life with my Sailor and the Navy. So I asked everyone, and scoured the www. Alas, I found CinCHouse and ran out that day and bought Married to the Military. Lucky for me I found it on the first try. It has put my heart and mind at ease. I can now continue to support my Sailor in his career. I have the information, resources and confidence to find the answers to the many questions entailed with being "Married to the Military." Let's face it girls, for those not involved in this life, they will never understand how much this valuable book is needed. I now know the lingo, how to plan for how we can budget our finances. How to plan an upcoming military move after we are married. The moving was the scariest thing to do in my mind. Now, I feel like I can handle it, and even enjoy it and have a little fun with my dearest at the same time. Whew, all I can say is, I am grateful to this book! My fiance has read it as well and his opinion was that it was a very accurate and helpful tool for anyone. I catch him reading it every now and then too, he said he even learns stuff he didn't know before. This is a great bargain for the price. You could never find this amount of information in one place anywhere.
Rating: Summary: Wouldn't be Without It! Review: I've been a military spouse for over 24 years and while I am somewhat "seasoned", I found there were many tidbits that I have flagged for future reference. If I were starting out as a new military girlfriend/spouse, this book would be a must have! While Meredith is a navy spouse, you can apply the info to all branches of service. It might not be exactly "on point" depending on the branch of service your spouse is with, but it guides you on what you need to know, the resources that are available to you and where you can go to get assistance. Well worth the cost. Wish it would have been available 24 years ago!
Rating: Summary: So, no stars isn't an option? Review: It's not THAT bad. Really, it isn't. However, the bottom line is that it's nothing new. There is not a single thing in this book that hasn't been published elsewhere. Blah, blah, wrote book while pregnant, blah...I don't care. The saccharine sweet peeeeenk cover is annoying and the tone is condescending. When I married a Navy man, my Mother and Aunt (wife of an Air Force CMSGT and retired General, respectively) warned me about Navy wives. I didn't get it until I encountered Mrs. Levya's little book. [...] Books like this are the reason [my husband is] getting out after one reenlistment.
Rating: Summary: no way a good book save your money Review: this book didnt give me any info that i didnt already know.. its all for officer's wife.. and most of the review is from people that are on there websites.. what about the struggle that military wife go through every day with a disabled child.. i took mine back and got my money back... wouldnt recommend it to anyone...
Rating: Summary: Zero stars, if I could. Review: This book is just a big plug for the author's website, which is as snotty, catty and exclusive as the book. Now that I have looked around online, I have found that much of the information in this book is incorrect, and possibly even damaging to your servicemember's career. There's not much value in this book, unless you are interested in hearing one woman's very narrow experiences. There are better resources out there for those of you who are as confused about the military as I was. I thought I'd be gaining insight to the military life, but now I'm sad that I wasted my money.
