Rating: Summary: Save your money... Review: ...especially if you are not Navy! There are many errors in her research, and the book should never have been titled Married to the Military since most of her "advice" and "information" is geared toward the Navy wife, not much to the Army or Air Force wives....
Rating: Summary: A Survival Manual Review: A Survival Manual for military wives. The slant is navy, but it seems to have good overall application. If you're an expert military spouse this is not your book. If you're in over your head this book is your lifeline.
Rating: Summary: not worth the paper it was written on Review: A total waste of space. This book is a thinly veiled Naval Officers wife handbook. Nothing pertained to other services. If you read the good reviews on this site you will find they come from people registered on the cinhouse website (how convenient!!) Regular people have slated this book because it has no bearing on the modern military family. There is no information in this book that cannot be garnered from other online sources
Rating: Summary: This is an awesome book! Review: As a fairly new military wife who became "seasoned" very quickly, I wish I had this book the day I married my Sailor! Being a military wife is a totally unique lifestyle and I think Ms. Leyva has done a wonderful job relaying the different resources available and expressing this lifestyle as an "adventure". The personal stories from other wives experiencing this adventure were a great treat. It is alway comforting to know that you are not alone. I definetly recommend this book for the new military wife trying to wade through military jargon and bureaucracy.
Rating: Summary: Experience is the best Teacher!! Review: As a military spouse of 17 years and veteran of 11 moves for new duties... I can say, WHERE WAS THIS BOOK WHEN I STARTED?? This is a wonderful book to keep close to you as you walk hand in hand with your military member in life. This author has beat down the doors and asked all the questions that a spouse would. She has put it in a plain to read reliable hand book with a story book style that is easy to understand even for the beginner. I can say, I will recommend this book to others and keep it handy to reference in my daily life to help someone who needs it. This is how we get by in the Military life... by making our way and showing it to others as we go!! She has the experience and she is reaching and teaching others. GREAT timing!
Rating: Summary: Married to the Military Review: Great information in this book! I am a National Guard wife of 17 1/2 years and how I wish this book had been available when my husband left for basic training all of those years ago. Even though some of the information in the book, such as for moving, doesn't pertain to National Guardsmen, since my husband is now deployed for the second time in three years, and I am among other wives who are Active Duty, the book is a great resource when I am conferring with them about what they are going through. I also found other information in the book such as on other branches of the service, deployments and benefits to be educational and highly useful. Military life is not easy, and the more information that is available to people, the better. And, without the book I would've never known about CinCHouse, a wonderful on-line gathering of military significant others. I have a resource now for this deployment that I did not have during the last one and for that I am so grateful. Thumbs up way high for this book. Thank you Meredith!
Rating: Summary: Bored to Tears Review: Having been an Army wife for 2 years and a fiancee for 2 years before that, I am always looking to learn more about how to cope with the difficulties of military life. My mother picked up this book for me because the cute cover caught her eye. Unfortunately, the cover is the only good thing about this book. The author's tone is condescending throughout the book, and she talks down to readers, which is a real turn-off. Ms. Leyva obviously has no idea of the day to day struggles of average enlisted wives. Some of the information provided is false. [...] The book gives some cutesy information about how to act and how wonderful it is to support your man *rolls eyes* Save your money, ladies! There are better books out there that will prepare you for the real military life...not the rosy picture painted in books.
Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: I am a Navy wife and even though I've been with my husband since before he joined the Navy, we only recently married and being a wife is far different than being a girlfriend or fiancee! This book wove humorous stories along with the advice and tells it like it is, and is all-branch friendly. A good start for anyone who is marrying into the military regardless of branch or rank!
Rating: Summary: Decent - geared toward Enlisted Wives but good for all Review: I am really confused by many of the reviews that I've read - almost every example that the author gave in the book was of an enlisted soldier or wife. There was little of mention of officers' wives. It was a good book in general but I would say mostly geared toward the enlisted side, which is fine. I am glad that I own it. It was an easy read - very user friendly! Hope you enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: BOOK WAS A MUST HAVE FOR THIS NAVY GF/FIANCE Review: I bought the book this afternoon and read it ALL in one sitting...it was a very long sitting, mind you. It was a must have to help me understand the changes that my Navy man and I would be enduring together in the future and give me more knowledge about what is happening right now. It's easy to read with personal stories and the author definately knows her stuff. There's everything from kids to clothing etiquette and shopping. Seeing the pink camo cover in the front of ... this afternoon made my heart jump: finally; someone wrote a manual for the military woman!
