Summary: A splendid translation
Review: This is more than just a translation of Marcus Aurelius' wonderful "Meditations". It is a recreation of its meaning for the modern reader, true to the original text and to the tenets of Stoic philosophy and yet in a lucid and poetic language that is immensely readable. I have studied the "Meditations" in the original Greek, and I have seen other translations. Scot Hicks' and David Hicks' rendering is undoubtedly the best. It is supported by a commendable graphical production which highlights the most memorable passages. Marcus Aurelius deserves to be read by everyone but especially by those who purport to lead other people.

Summary: Fantastic Book & Translation
Review: This is proabbaly among the best western philsoophy books there is. Most western philosophers are very boring and go on and on and on, but Marcus Aurelius's Meditations is different. It is to the point and is very fascinating (although I didn't care much for most of the first few chapters).

And this translation is outstanding--it is far superior to any of the others I have seen.

I definitely recommend this book & translation.
