Rating: Summary: Dawn from Canada Review: I've known that I've needed to find an exercise regime for quite some time... okay, for the past two years. I'm not a fitness club type of exerciser, so it had to be something I could do on my own, and on my own terms. But nothing seemed to stick and my long hours in building a new vocation consumed whatever energy I would have had to work out... because I never found "the fit to getting fit" until now! Sure, I began somewhat unconvinced at first, but after three weeks I have lost six pounds. I had developed the emotional and spiritual intelligence aspects of my work and personal life, but had ignored the physical because these other realms seemed more important. Now, I have the third leg of the stool and only regret not starting sooner. For me, it was finding something that was bite-size that would fit into my day. And, as someone who has a medical background, I can vouch for his solid eating plan and advice. Consumption of essential fatty acids from his recommended list of oils is especially important, not only metabolically, but for overall good health. I remember well the morning that sealed my commitment to this program. I was tempted to skip because of the pressing publication deadlines I had that day. Synchronicity was at work for Cruise's book fell open at a page that essentially said that unless you take care of the vehicle (your body), you jeopardize all the greatness you can achieve with your mind and spirit. So, "8 Minutes in the Morning" turned out to be the missing link in my day. Better to support a strong mind and inspired spirit with a strong body than a weak one.
Rating: Summary: Starvation mode... Review: Of course you'll lose weight if you eat 1200 calories or fewer a day. During the first week of the plan, you are allowed even fewer than 1200 calories, although the author doesn't give an exact number. As someone who already exercises five days a week, I couldn't live with an eating plan like this. The great part of the book (earning it three stars) is the weight training. I've incorporated morning weight lifting into my exercise plan and it really jump starts my day. Don't buy this book for the eating plan unless you are willing to strictly limit your calorie intake. Do buy this book if you are interested in starting a weight training program. It's great for beginners.
Rating: Summary: A realistic total diet program Review: I have been looking for a program that is easy to do for a busy person but yet is effective. I don't want to waste time on things that don't work. I know in order to lose weight what you do or don't eat is as important as exercise. This book is very informative about exercise as well as eating.
Rating: Summary: I Bought This Book For My Mother For Christmas Review: I gave this book to my mother for Christmas after hearing her say she would like to have it. She uses it every day and is really excited about it. I didn't like that she wanted all of us to try flaxseed oil-yuck! She switched to olive oil and we all like that better!

The exercise plan is like none other that I've seen. It is short, easy to follow, and very effective. The eating card system is simple and not time consuming. He has really tapped into the overweight mentality. He knows what people need to hear in order to get motivated. I am on the program and it is working for me. I saw immediate results in my energy level and was not hungry following the food guidelines. I highly recommend this book to anyone ready to be serious about not only losing weight, but becoming a healthier person.

Rating: Summary: 8 Minutes in the Morning - its worth it! Review: This book jumped out at me so I picked it up and had a peek inside. I was sceptical. I have many books on diet and fitness and I really didn't want to add another to my collection. But something was different. It all looked rather simple and it made sense! I took a chance and bought it. It didn't take me very long to read and I found the instructions for both the exercises and the diet quite easy to follow and it didn't require any fancy equipment or strange foods. Still, I really didn't think spending a mere 8 minutes in the morning would make much of a difference even with a food plan. Remember - I've tried many diet and fitness programs and failed to shed 5 pounds in one month. I was also impressed with the approach Jorge Cruise takes in the book. He becomes your coach which empowers you. He lets you make your own journey and at the same time connects you to others on the same path. It's a winning combination. I am happy to say that after following the program for only one week I have lost 5 pounds! At first I thought the needle on my scale was off because I didn't feel like I had struggled hard enough to lose that much in such a short time but it is in perfect working condition. Just in case you think it's all water loss: I hardly think that you can lose that much water when you have to drink eight glasses of it a day! I'm hooked - and I'm certain it will be the best purchase I will make all year!
Rating: Summary: Not Just Another Crazy Diet Review: If there was a miracle weight loss program available...I would have found it by now..I've tried most of them. Have also bought many diet books. This one is unlike any I've bought before! Easy to read, sensible, something I think I could stick with...and from what I have been reading, it has worked for many people. Jorge's approach is fun and exciting..you get an easy to follow exercise program,an eating plan and a daily motivational activity. I'm starting the program on Monday and I'm optimistic that this one could really work for me!!!
Rating: Summary: Mixed Feelings Review: I have mixed feelings about this program, having followed it for three months now. I don't regret the purchase, and on the whole, it's a great book. It even performed a few miracles. But Jorge's book has a lot of room for improvement. First of all, it seems to be aimed at those who only have about 10-20lbs to lose. This is made evident both by the pictures in the book and the occasional comment that shows complete misunderstanding or insensitivity to serious obesity. Some of the exercises themselves are not even possible for a very overweight person to perform, and Jorge never gives alternatives. Secondly, Jorge's "motivational" tips each morning are, by and large, either insultingly stupid, or so absurd as to make you look forward to them each morning just for the dose of mocking laughter. Third, a month is simply not enough time to see tremendous progress in the body. Thus, the measurements and photographs that he makes you take at the beginning and the end can be very depressing, even if you're successful. Finally, I've found that the program's success is very precarious. I lost six pounds the first month, following it religiously -- less than the 2lb a week average. During the second and third month, a single day's variation from the food program erased an entire two week's worth of progress. (This is disappointing, since one cannot always avoid the occasional dinner party or other situation in which meal choices are not within your control and a little checkbook of food boxes would be embarrassing and inappropriate.) All that said, the book did, as I mentioned, perform a few miracles. The first miracle was that it got my husband exercising with me. He agreed that if we couldn't devote eight minutes a day then we would never succeed at any exercise program. It will never get easier than this. The second miracle was that my muscle strength has improved tremendously. Though my weight loss achievements on this program have not been overly impressive, the fact that I started at a point where I could barely lift a five pound weight, and am now strongly and confidently wielding the fifteen pound weights and needing heavier ones is very impressive indeed. It's made me healthier, stronger, and more energetic. And the exercise regimen, spending a few minutes each morning doing these routines, is something I believe I can maintain. All in all, I think Jorge has done a great thing here, and I value his book enough that I use it every morning, and likely will continue to do so. Kudos to him, and I look forward to the next one.
