Rating: Summary: A MUST FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF Review: I'm 50 years old today and am more excited than I've ever been! This book is FANTABULOUS! It is by far the best I've EVER seen because it encompasses the whole picture: what's a protein, what's a carbohydrate (etc), which exercises to do (all of which are very basic), how to get you motivated (and stay that way) and even offers a support group (who are ALWAYS willing to help out). The 8 minutes of exercise daily are very effective and simple to do! Jorge also helps you stay accountable every step of the way! In 6 1/2 weeks I've lost 20 pounds and can't believe my energy level. Soon there will be several folks in my office who will be starting this program as well. This isn't a bunch of hype! You can eat "normal" food. Jorge hellps you change not only internally but externally as well. Everything you need to know is contained in the book (including a weight maintenance program). Even if you've tried EVERYTHING else, you NEED to buy this book and start on his program. You'll not regret it! In a few more months I'll be at my target weight and KNOW that I will be able to stay there because of Jorge Cruise and "8 Minutes In The Morning". Thanks Jorge!
Rating: Summary: this really works! Review: I started jorge's eating plan and exercises last year in january hoping to lose 10 stubborn post partum pounds. by april I had lost a total of 20 lbs! the plan and exercises are easy. the only thing I added was a supplement called CLA. Of course it was hard at first and it took some discipline but that's the only way one can lose weight. the only undesirable side effect I had from looking good after following jorge's plan was another pregnancy, but hey, at least now I know how to get back in shape!
Rating: Summary: A weight loss program I can do! Review: I was so happy to find this book. I have just turned 40 and my weight is gradually adding up by 5-10 pounds every year over the past 5 years. I have tried eating smaller more frequent meals, gyms, walking, aerobics but with a 2 1/2 year old toddler I just don't have the time to do all these things consistently. 8MM works for me because I can do it at home, first thing in the morning with my little 'helper' counting and checking off the sets! The instructions are clear and concise and doing only two different exercises a day works for me! I am really enjoying planning out my meals and found it only took me 3 days to adjust to the change of meal organization and I rarely feel hungry.
Rating: Summary: Makes great complement to "Core Program" Review: Any exercise program has to be evaluated by 2 criteria: 1. Is it a program you will actually follow? (some make great claims but if you don't actually do it, whats the point) and 2.Does it work for you? (if you do follow it, does it give you the results you are looking for). If the answer to either one is no, then its time to put the book back on the shelf, return the video you never watch, sell the equipment you bought for it and look elsewhere. "8 Min" promises weight-loss with a balanced weight-lifting program that takes only about 8 min each morning, 6 days a week. Will it really produce these results if that's all you do? Probably, but it might take awhile unless you also follow the nutrition program and other lifestyle changes recommended in the book as well. The author is a Tony Robbins disciple so there are lots of motivational-style questions and suggestions , success stories, and inspiring quotes from other motivational gurus throughout the book. Cruise comes across as agung-ho fitness trainer (straight from a Robbins' seminar, probably) and if you like that sort of thing - this will give you your fill. He also has a website where you can buy stuff or share your before-and-after success story and help him sell more books. At some point he talks about his "mission". That sounds admirable, but I'm just looking to drop a few pounds and look a little more buff for the [price] I spent on this book, and for that, I think it does the job. Combined with the "Core Program", "8 Min" makes the perfect workout for women - it could be the best "30 min" in the morning a woman could spend by herself.
Rating: Summary: 8 Minutes....uh-huh....sure.... Review: Well, here's the long and the short of it. This book presents a great, comprehensive meal plan. However, by doing 8 minutes worth of strength training exercises each day of your life, you will not improve your muscle strength substantially. If you do a complete, 20-minute strength training program 3 times a week, combined with 3 days of 30-minute cardiovascular exercise AND follow a well-balanced diet, then AND ONLY THEN will you experience weight loss, improved health, and increased muscle tone and strength. 'Nuff said.
Rating: Summary: An easy way to incorporate exercise into your life! Review: Bottom line: This book worked for me! As a single mother working full time, I have (until now) found it nearly impossible to incorporate regular exercise into my life. Hours in the gym, bulky and expensive equipment, and time constraints are restrictive. This book changed that for me. The exercises are easy to do, take little time or equipment, and are actually very effective! I have lost pounds and inches, and everyone at work compliments me on my progress. I have more energy too! Jorge's exercise plan involves two strength-training exercises daily, and you do four sets of 12 repetitions for each exercise. The only equpiment you need is a set of dumbbells. The total morning routine takes from 8 to 15 minutes, including the brief warmup and stretches afterwards. You roll out of bed, do your exercises for the day, and you're done before you're even fully awake. That's about as easy as it could possibly get---but it works! Jorge's diet plan is basically a low-fat, low-calorie diet. He also stresses the benefits of flax oil. I have used the exercises in his book in conjunction with a low to moderate carbohydrate diet, and that has worked well for me. Your mileage may vary. The book also provides great information about dieting and exercise in general, and gives many good sources to utilize as well. It's easy to read, and well-organized. The personal stories he uses as examples are real people, not supermodels, and I liked that. I highly recommend this book for busy people like me, who aren't fitness junkies but want to incorporate some exercise into their lives.
Rating: Summary: Very well-rounded, easy & it works! Review: After reading the other reviews, I was a little skeptical, but the book looked good, and I've seen him on several TV shows and it looked like he knew what he was talking about. My hubby & I have been following the plan for 3 weeks now. We have found the eating plan easy to follow, and much less expensive than other diets, such as Atkins, South Beach, etc. We don't like the taste of the flax oil, so I buy the capsules (whatever brand is on sale that week at our local store). The first maybe 2 days were a little hard, but since then we've had no hunger at all. In fact, we cannot eat all the food we are supposed to! I guess that's the difference between eating healthy food and fatty foods - you get a lot more! For breakfast this morning I had 3 egg whites, a piece of toast, half a grapefruit and a glass of soy milk! You'll find the breakfasts and lunches more than adequate. Dinners are a little small, but come on folks - we wouldn't be buying these books if we didn't eat too darn much! My hubby and I each have about 26 pounds total to lose. So far, he's lost 12 and I've lost 8, and we are very happy. We both have more energy. It follows a common sense, eat less, move more theory. I understand he has changed his eating plan, and the new one will be reflected in an update to the book later this year. We'll stick with this one - it works! It's very well-rounded and the foods are easy to find at our local discount grocery store. Basically, though, you can eat what you want as long as it's a reasonable portion! Whole grains are favored over processed, and sugar is limited, but you get 2 treats a day! This book has absolutely changed our lives for the better.
Rating: Summary: Holy weight loss book Batman!! Review: The best things about this book are that it is very user friendly and motivational. I think it will help a lot of people. Overweight readers with back pain may also like "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution."
Rating: Summary: The Best Exercise Book Review: I lost 30 pounds through dieting alone. I added aerobic exercise (step aerobics mainly) five times a week and weight training three times a week and it did absolutely nothing. I've been on a weight loss plateau for two years. Then I picked up this book. I've gone through the cycle once and have already lost three pounds! Don't listen to people who criticize this regimen without having tried it; it really works! And for my mother, who needs to lose over 100 pounds, I bought her Cruise's other book 8 Minutes in the Morning for Real Sizes and after a few weeks she said she could already feel a difference in how her clothes fit her. (As for the diet, I don't recommend it or any other fad diet. Instead, go to a nutritionist who will teach you how to eat a low calorie, healthy, balanced diet.)
