Rating: Summary: Dr.Strand is selling books and subscriptions not supplements Review: The book does a terrific job positioning supplements as an aid to medecine and as a prevention tool. His web site clearly is a business to sell both his book and subscriptions to his information about supplements specific to various diseases and disorders.
Reviewer # 2 "A Reader" claims Dr. Strand is in the business of selling supplements, which does not appear to have any basis in fact. His apparently amateur criticisms of Dr. Strand's research citings seems to overlook the many mentions Dr. Strand makes for research supporting his findings. For instance on Page 8, Dr. Strand says "In the past year alone, I have examined more than thirteen hundred peer reviewed medical studies involving nutritional supplements and how they affect chronic degenerative diseases. These studies are double blind, placebo-controlled medical studies, the kind that physicians love. The overwhelming majority of these studies show a significant health benefit to thos patients who take nutrients at optimal levels, which are significantly higher than the RDA levels."
Dr. Strand is no snake oil nor even supplement salesman. He offers solid advice for improving your health beyond the recommendations of the traditional medical community. Five years ago, many doctors did not support multi-vitamins and high dosage antioxidants. Recent research is beginning to change this, but Dr. Strand is out in front for people who need more than traditional medical treatments can offer.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding health book for the 21st Century Review: Dr Ray Strand's book is one of the first I've read that explains the underlying reason so many people in the world are suffering from chronic degenerative diseases -- oxidative stress. He clearly shows how the right diet and the right vitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplements plus essential fatty acids can help bring folks suffering from serious diseases back to health. I've been on the program he recommends for several months and have almost completely recovered from long-standing chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia. His informative web site, bionutrition.org. has an excellent article on oxidative stress. Thank you, Dr. Strand.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Information! Why haven't we heard this before? Review: Dr. Strand's book is an excellent resource for those who have undiagnosed symptoms and challenges. You don't need to be a doctor to understand the message, but I wish more doctor's would get a copy of this book and read it! Great book! Why haven't we heard more about the benefits of nutrition before now?
Rating: Summary: Eye Opener Review: Everyone will be able to see themselves or someone they love in this book! This book is absolutely fascinating and empowering. We can help maintain our health just by having the right information and acting on it. I did more research into Dr. Strand and learned what supplements he actually recommends. My mother-in-law has seen her blood pressure drop dramatically in the last 3 months by taking these supplements and following Dr. Strand's advice. I am so sold that I became a distributor for this company. ...

Rating: Summary: Excellent Info for old and young, Sick and healthy. Review: I read extensively about health, nutrition and disease prevention. Bar none, this is the best book I've read that covers the gamut of major diseases and health concerns. The text is easy to read and understand - even for those who are NOT familiar with various health terms. The info is laid out in a well-thought out, logical manner. You will definitely wonder why you haven't learned about this info before... and the answer is also provided in the book. I have been searching for a doctor or a resource that combines the best of the medical world with the best of the nutritional world. I've known all along you cannot have health without nutrition - any doctor who says that nutrition doesn't matter is a dolt. (That's like saying that oxygen isn't important.) Well, I finally found the doctor and the resource. (Wish he were in my home state, though!) This is a keeper for your long term library. Every chapter has excellent info that can improve or maintain your health or ... it may benefit your immediate and extended family, your friends and acquaintances, even strangers that you may "touch". Truly, don't miss a single page in this book. Then, keep it handy for reference for years to come because not only is the information excellent but it is also timeless.
Rating: Summary: This is for Nutritional Supplement Doubters and Disbelievers Review: If you doubt the effects of nutritional supplements...well, this is for you. If you are convinced...well, it's still great with a great amount of information that you shouldn't be without. This book is easily digested and written to be understood by the layman even though Dr. Strand seems to be talking to doctors as well. Even better, there are tons of bibliography links so that you can read the mainstream scientific articles that he derives his information from if you are the super pessimist. Great book...
Rating: Summary: Nutritional Medicine Review: This book has a wealth of information on supplements, vitamins, diet etc. Eating just fruits and vegetables will not provide us with necessary supplements. If we have the right information on the right time and act on it, we can improve our life a lot. Dr Strand's book does a terrific job of positioning supplements as an aid to medicine and as a prevention tool. At the same time this book is filled with religious statements, which he could have avoided.
I've been on the program he recommends for several months and have almost completely recovered from long-standing chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia. There is a lot of useful information in here to provide much thought about what to eat. There are also interesting references for wellness products. The author does suggest you go off coffee slowly before you start the plan. This would minimize headaches during detox. I couldn't wait to get started so, of course, did it all at once and had the most horrible awful headache for 4 straight days. I finally broke down and had a 1/2 cup coffee one day instead of taking aspirin and that did the trick...for the moment. Now I'm completely caffeine-free and don't miss it at all. My doctor prescribed a wonderful replacement for coffee made from soya beans called "soyffee". I bought it online at www.S o y c o f f e e.com and cannot believe how good is the taste.
Rating: Summary: It's not too late . . . Review: This could have been a five star book, but Ray Strand insisted on peppering us with language of a particular religious world view that has made it difficult to believe in the rest of his recommendations. Personally, I wanted to read the book for solid scientific information on nutrition, I could have done without the narrow religious statements. However, if you can get by the self-serving public piousness, there is good information on nutrition, diet, supplements and exercise which will serve us all well. For years I fought the use of supplements as being a waste of money. I subscribed to the view that if you ate a reasonable diet of vegetables and fruit, you would get all the nutrients you need. Perhaps that was true at one time, but with the high levels of pollution in our environment, poor animal husbandry, and depleted farm lands, we have to resort to the use of supplements. I am now convinced that high quality dietary supplements are a requirement for a healthy life. If you can't find any other books on nutrition, then this one might serve to get you started. However, steel yourself for the off-topic creationist messages.
Rating: Summary: Eye Opener Review: This is a fantastic book! I have been taking high quality nutritional supplements for over 3 years now and have noticed the incredible improvement in my body. However, when I tried to describe the increase in energy, overall health, decrease in joint pain and headaches to others, the message didn't always translate. Plus, if I would "promote" a certain type of vitamin/supplement - say Gingko Biloba, for example, people would purchase cheaper and less effective brands - not believing that you get what you pay for and you really should invest in your health and buy the best out there. Dr. Strand was able to say in layman's terms, but with a lot more credibility, what I have been trying to communicate for years to family and friends. This is a fantastic read and I wasn't discouraged afterwards; rather, I was encouraged since I knew I was on the right track...and you can be too!
